The overseeding process is completed. They're back to carts on the fairways and everything since the overseeding went so well according to the guys in the golf shop. There is very little I can find fault with at Arizona National. It is, as I have stated on this website many times previously, my favorite Tucson-area course. From the minute you arrive until you pack the bag back in the car this golf course is a treat. The RTJ layout is fantastic, winding its way through the mountains, up and down hills, through and over canyons. The rough is unforgiving. It's pretty severe desert and "I'm going to hit a provisional" is one of the most often used phrases of golfers playing Az Nat'l. We were treated to a coyote lounging on a tee box, and a bobcat stalking a rabbit this round. The greens are in great shape, and the fairways are as good as I've ever seen them now that the overseeding is complete. There are some difficult desert carries to reach the fairway on a couple of holes, but if you play the teeboxes you should then the round should be smooth. This is a great course for women and shorter hitters, as the 4 sets of teeboxes allow for all skill levels to enjoy themselves. If you are in Tucson, or planning a trip to Tucson . . you must play this course!

Played the course this weekend on 9/27. They're in the process of "drying out" the course for the overseeding process, and we actually played on the last day of tee times before the overseed. Have to say I was quite impressed with the conditions. They were far superior to other "drying out" courses I've played in the area and were quite playable. Never ran into any dry/bare fairway spots, and the greens were excellent. They were true and pretty quick. There were no brown spots, or dry spots on the greens at all. I'd rate them superior to most of the courses in the area during their prime playing conditions. This is an approach shot layout. Plenty of room off the teeboxes, but the approach shots require some precision and placement to score well. There are many elevation changes, and the course offers probably the best views of the Tucson valley of any you can play in the area. The staff, as always, was professional, helpful, and friendly. Playing during "less than prime" conditions, and finding them to be exceptional confirms in my own mind why this course is my favorite in the area!

Course was in good shape fairways, greens, and most teeboxes were lush. Some tees, mainly on the par threes were chewed up quite a bit with divots. service was exeptional. first time playing this course and i will definitely play again in the near future.

Every time I play this course it continues to amaze me. That's why it is my favorite course in the Tucson area. The last time I played, I had made mention of some troublesome bunker sand. When I played this weekend, those problems had all been taken care of, and the bunker sand was great. I know because I saw a lot of it! This course has some forced carries from the blue and black tees, but only two will really make you crank it to reach the green grass. Those holes are offset by a couple that force you to leave the driver in the bag because there are some mid-fairway traps that can be troublesome. This is a 2nd shot course. For the most part, the landing areas off the teeboxes are wide and easily hit. It's the approach shots that force you to think about how to put yourself into good putting position and avoid the numerous "distractions" between you and the green. I love the elevation changes, and there are a couple teeboxes that give you a view of the entire city of Tucson. The service is as good as it gets anywhere! You are made to feel important, and like your business is very wanted when playing Arizona National. I can't think of a single customer service want or need that goes unmet. This is my favorite course in the Tucson area and I believe it's a "must play" if you are in the area!

Played on the morning of 6/28. Course was coming out of aeration. Greens were a bit bumpy as expected, but tee boxes, fairways and sand traps were in very good shape for this time of the year. Staff was very friendly. Excellent views and challenges. I would play it again today if possible...

Played this course 4/19 in a shotgun start. I love this course! While the holes are not overly long, you are required to be precise with your shotmaking or be penalized. The only thing I would suggest to the staff would be to do something with the sand in the traps. It's very compacted, and either needs to be dug up or replaced. The staff is top-notch from the minute you call the clubhouse until your bags are in the car. I think this is a "must-play" course if you're in the Tucson area.

Played AZ National for the first time with my golf buddies from USAF (3-21-08). Had a great time, course was in great shape and the greens ran true and about 9 on the stimp. Overall experience was awesome, and the staff were very helpful.

Had the opportunity to play Az National for the first time in a long time on 12/31/2007. I had played the course a few times back in the mid 90's when it was still known as "The Raven". What a great time. Played with my wife and mother in law. One thing anyone should know before playing . . this course is very friendly to women. There are very few forced carries from the women's tees, which made for a very enjoyable round for them also. There are "combo" tees for women who hit the ball further, and they do require some forced carries over ravines and canyons. This is a great course. The greens were as good as any I've seen in Tucson. No ballmarks, they rolled true and pretty fast. There are very few blind shots on the course, only 2 that I can remember off the tees. This makes for an enjoyable round when you're not spending loads of time trying to locate errant tee shots. The views of the mountains and the city are spectacular! There are some testers on the course, but for the most part, it plays pretty straightforward. Was not overly long from the blues (which I played). I remember playing the blacks back a decade ago . . and if memory serves, they make the course much more difficult. The staff was sensational. From the guy who unloaded our bags and let us know exactly how long a frost delay we were looking at, to the cart girls who were friendly and helpful. One exciting sidenote: On the way to the 17th tee box we ran into a bobcat ambling across the cart path. I've seen hundreds of coyotes and javalina on local courses, but this is the first time I've seen a bobcat . . it was very cool! We didn't bother him, and he didn't seem to be very bothered by us. This is a course that I can hardly wait to play again. AAA+
