i found this course to be on the boring side. completely different from the ranch course. after the first five holes i lost total concentration. pretty course but it doesn't have the mystic of the ranch course.everything is pretty much in front of you. greens are fast and hold high shots very good. ball sit up on the fairways and rough. will try this course again but only when i have the time.

Let's get it out of the way first. We all know this course is WAY off the beaten track. If you're from the East Bay like me, you can't help but think twice about coming here, gas prices what they are. But if you do, you will be rewarded. At $59, including cart, this is a good value. The course layout is well designed (a Jack Nicklaus & Gene Sarazen collaboration - the only one I know of), although there are a few doglegs that are not so intuitive. This is a course, where on a friday at 10am there is almost no one around. This is a good place to "work" on your game - a quality course and set your own pace. Despite no real activity, the beverage cart babe kept making her rounds. Amazing. In my experience the greens have been in generally god condition. They were excellent today. The fairways were being watered early afternoon by guys who don't move. Sure they wave at you, expecting you'll hit anywhere but up the chute. The best advice here is play early. Afternoon winds are brutal and at times can be 3 to 4 clubs. It's no fun when you're slammin' 5 irons from 150 out.

I played the Legends course at Diablo Grande in late September 2008. Man, what a difference from just a couple of years ago. This IS NOT a course I would recommend right now. They had some money issues earlier this year and it seems like the course is still feeling the effects. I have always enjoyed this track (Legends) when i have played it in the past (Nov 2005 was last time). It just is not being maintained like it should be. Very thin spots in the fairways, bare spots on a couple of greens, bunkers where it is down to the dirt (no sand)...just a shame. I played the course on a Saturday and was by myself, zipped around in 3 hr 25 minutes, very little wait to hit shots...unfortunately, it was because there was no one there...! Let's hope the conditioning comes back to where it was in the past. That will bring it back into my Top 10 local courses to play...until then...Top 50?

Had big expectations for the course being a Jack Nicklaus design and the normal price. We played a special which was $49. The layout was awesome. Lots of blind tee shots into good fairways most of the time. Some of the fairways were really wet and mooshy though. Greens were all pretty good (fairly slow and not a lot of slope/break) Errant tee shots get eatin up by yellow grass surrounding the course. Pretty good elevation change. Price included a bucket of balls which is cool. The driving range isn't much but gets the job done. The cart girl was around a lot which was nice. So all in all good day, pretty good course (wasn't everything I expected) has the potential to be awesome.

The new management company is running some great deals to get players to this course. We played a Jack Nicklalus designed course in very good shape with no one on the course for $49, which included cart and range balls. This is a very nice course in a nice setting and is hardly played at all. It will fit any level player as the Blacks play over 7000 with a 147 slope. Being almost 60 I played the whites at around 6100. I played with my wife and they have very fair womens tee boxes which give even older women chances of reaching Par 4's in two. With the Ranch course also being in good shape and a great course in it own right this is really a bargain for golf in California right now.

A family friend is a founding member of Diablo Grande and I was invited to play a round (Legends course). Having been to several very high-end country clubs, I wasn't expecting the quality of this place. A course that is ready to host a PGA event any day of the week, great service, not rushed, etc.

Like many courses in this region (East Bay Area, Central CA, etc.) the "rough" is something that can be near desert conditions in the summer and practically swamp grass in the winter. Signs stating "Beware of Rattlesnakes" are NOT a joke. Hitting a ball into the deep rough could get you in front of a rattlesnake a mountain lion, a fox, coyote, etc. The upside is that if you look up, you might also spot an Eagle or two.

The course was designed by Jack himself and it shows. There are NO complaints here. Challenge level five stars, beauty five stars, services, carts, people, all top notch. If I get another invite - no questions asked, I am there!

Played 4/24/07

The course was in very good condition, but the greens were very slow. The rough was long and tough to hit out of.

Teed off at 4:30pm and finished BOTH courses by 8:45. Never saw another person the entire day. I liked the Legends course better but both courses are very good!! Greens were in great shape.

Once again the staff at Diablo Grande demonstrates their committment to service and providing an enjoyable experience at their layout. When we were unable to play the Legends course on Friday due to a tournament, they let us play the Legends on Monday after we played the Ranch course at no additional charge. Incredibly, they suggested it, we didn't ask for any special consideration. Shane Balfour and his crew have every time been nothing but gracious, accomodating, and a pleasure to deal with. This why we are glad to drive the 100 miles from San Francisco several times a year to play these great golf courses. Tucked away in a beautiful canyon these 36 holes offer a wide diversity in shot-making as each hole is unique and exciting to play. Highly recommended.

very challenging course, I do advise, play on a non-windy day....course is hilly and long....plenty of blind shots...need to be able to work your ball....short hitters...do play from reds or whites.....greens and fairways are in tremendous shape..kudos to the staff....bunkers are well placed for the intermediate players....remember play your shots and you should have a great time.....hit them long and c u out there....

A buddy of mine and I were driving up to Sac for 4th of July weekend on Jun 30. We decided to take a break and pull over off I-5 and play a round here. We didn't have a tee time, but we got on immediately around 230p for a twilight rate of $35. For the caliber of course, that is a tremendous bargain. This facility is terrific, but if there is one drawback, it has a horrible driving range - worse than most muni courses. What's up with that? The course, however, was a different story. We played the blues, which turned out to be a big mistake since we didn't know the course. In any event, the course was in immaculate shape, and we saw maybe one other foursome all day. There are no cheap gimme holes on this course. A lot of elevated greens w/additional trouble in front, e.g., creeks, ravines, etc. If you can fly the ball high and soft, you'll do well here, but if you like running the ball up to the front, you really won't be able to get away with that on this course. This is a fantastic 36 hole complex - even though the homes on the course are ruining that "remote" feeling.
