Played 6/21/10. Front nine seemed short, tight and somewhat hilly. Nothing special about the front 9 except for running into couple of deers on the 9th hole. Guess they've been there for a while. Truly enjoyed back nine as the course is flatter and it has great views of the avila beach and the rivers(?) that feeds it. View of the short 18th hole alone was worthy of the green fee. A must play in Central Coast.

Enjoyed the round - took a while since we kept catching a slow foursome. Few if any distance-to-pin markers. Just the standard 150 yard mini-tree marker. If you want to get faster rounds, mark the sprinklers, paint the cart path, erect some 100 yard stakes etc - how hard is that?
Got a 2-for-1 coupon and that made everything OK. But still?

Played Sat 10/11 in the afternoon. Customer service is great. Very friendly people. We were expecting to see several ocean view holes but it didn't. Front nine is same old golf view but the back nine did have several nice views. Several holes with narrow fairways. Need accurate tee shots. It also has several blind tee shots. If you know the course, this is not that difficult course. Since we were new to this course, we all had difficulties.
Plus the winds... :-(
Fairways are in good shape. Greens are fast and firm.
Need more visible distance markers or install GPS.
We had a coupon to play Blacklake and Avila Beach for $99. We would hate to pay full price to play this course.
Overall we all had good times and enjoyed the course.

My spouse and I played Avila on July 1st...we played by ourselves and the course was pretty quiet..which was nice. It is a fun course to play because of unconventional layouts and greens...we play the other kind every week! Our round was just over 4 hours.Everything was in good condition and we will definately play there again.

This is a very challenging course, the front nine has some nice twists and turns and b$tch 'en water hazzards! My personal favorite's were
the 8th hole: A 191 par 3 over a pond onto the green.

the 8th hole: A 191 par 3 over a pond onto the green.
The 10th hole the tee box is 15-20 feet from the ocean which is about 125 yards to the fairway.
The 11th hole you'll see a bridge. Hint: Stay to the left of that bridge.
I really enjoyed the course/challenge! The staff was helpful and a pleasure to talk too. Last but not least, my favorite saying for the day: It's dry!

I hadn't played here in 20 years. It was a beautiful day and considering I tee'd off at about noon on a Sunday, to play in under 4 hours was a pleasant surprise. The course: greens were really really nice! The rest of the course, not so nice. A rather strange layout, but enjoyable. The 11th hole is really weird, and the par 3's (from the tips) are very difficult!
