played there last weekend twice for the 2nd time this yr.. theres a special on the web site that gets you a cart, lunch,beer,18holes for 2 players for 60.00.. at 30.00 to play this gem tucked back in the hills of bolder creek is a true deal.. it was hot like 95 in san jose and here was only like 80. the course is still very green for this late and has been kept up very well.. the pace of play here is really good only waiting to tee off a couple of times. the course rewards the straight shot. but temps you with driver or a longer shot than one might think.. if you only played the course with nothing more than a 5iron you could still score well as the driver holes on the par 5 are narrow. and if you should hit it OB you can usally forget finding it, its heavy woods and such.. getting a tee time was easy both times, and got on easily for a 2some and singles get on really easy. the dinning room is great and the free sandwich is good and it comes with a soda or a beer and the staff is very helpful. there is putting green to warm up on, but no driving range. other than that it is one of santa cruz's oldest golf courses and is a real gem in the hills to play.... no one I have ever taken here has been dissapointed...

This is not a great or challenging course, but it is quite fun to play, especially in the summer. Here’s my break down on Boulder Creek.

Things to like:

+ Beautiful setting in the redwoods

+ Fun to play—a few of the par fours are reachable from the tee and all par fives are reachable in two (410-440 yards)

+ Very woman friendly—a great course to take a wife/girlfriend who doesn’t play a lot

+ Usually not too crowded—a round can be finished under 4 hours easily

+ Cheap green fees M-Th ($22, TW $17, STW $14)and discounts on golfnow.com

Things you may not like:

- Quite short—4396 yards (but every hole plays several yards less that the official yardage marker, which is at the very rear of each tee box)—and easy (slope is 105)

-Difficult to get to—requires about an hour’s drive from San Jose/the Peninsula, all over winding roads

-Conditions could be better—tee boxes often have lots of divots, fairways and areas around the greens sometimes have hardpan or brown areas

-Drainage could be better—the course remains wet and muddy for several days after it rains

-No driving range or chipping area

-Pro shop and clubhouse are a bit austere

I just love this mountain feeling course where you play among the redwoods. It is a very fun course to play and is the best one to play with your female partner. It is very female friendly. It is usually in great shape too. It's not a long course but you have to play smart. The trees are many and they hang out over the fairways. Shot shapeing is a good thing to have in your bag to play that couse well. Have fun!
