Played this course today on a beautiful, clear sunny day. It's everything we expected. This course is annually ranked among the best in the country. There's nothing I can add that's really new...you won't be disappointed. Conditioning is immaculate, greens are tricky, but every hole is interesting and unique. It's a flat out Alistair Mackenzie masterpiece. The experience was all the more interesting, as our group followed Aaron Oberholser and his girlfriend (who also has a great swing btw).

Really good, very consistant. Greens are what make the course tough. Some holes play very long for the yardage. Up hill on 385, driver, 5 wood. Still, putting the big deal. Add 5 to your normal score, maybe more. As good as it is, a little pricie.

Played Pasa again today and it was an absolutely spectacular day on the course. Guys inside were cool, members were nice, and we were treated well. 6500 yds. from the tips but slope is 140. It should be 150. Greens were immaculate and punishing. Struck the ball well but really struggled on the greens. 1 four putt and 5 three putts killed me, but that's normal for Pasa. The sand was excellent, the fairways and rough were perfect, and I really enjoyed myself here, as I always do, have never been disappointed. Will return next month.

After playing here throughout the years, I've come to the conclusion that this is the best golf course I've ever played, and I've played Olympic, Riviera, Pebble, Spyglass, Bandon, Shadow Creek and El Rancho Verde. Sure Pebble/Spy get more pub down the coast but now that the Tom Doak restoration is complete, this course is an absolute crown jewel in California golf history. Toughest green complex's you'll ever play that demands a jeweler's touch and the ebb and flow to the course is unbelievable. Still very demanding and it doesn't suffer fools lightly. This course demands you pay attention, be razor sharp in thought and intellect, yet be mindful enough to know when to lay down and walk humbly between shots. Everything here is first class but very understated, clean and simple, the way it should be (take note Pelican Hill). The turf was brown in spots, but the heatwave will do this, however, the greens were fine and rolling very well. Everyone should play here at least once. It was a little ragged and beaten down 10-15 years ago but now, it's back to its rightful place as an icon in California golf history.

This was my first time to Pasa Tiempo. It was everything I was told it would be. The service was very good. You are shuttled to the driving range which is by the first green. When you want to return, there is a call box. The driver showed me the home of Alister Mackenzie which is on the 6th fairway. His design of the course was phenomenal! One of many experiences he wanted people to have was that you see the sandtraps from the tee and fairway, but not from the green. So the sandtraps are all slanted.
I was told this was a very tough course and it was. The experience was well worth the green fees for this semi-private course.
I highly recommend a round here!

played day of new year's eve. crowded tee sheet but round took 4:30 even with a 5-some of members in front of us (!) greens were shaggy for pasatiempo, and a bit bumpy, so not the true woody austin putter bending experience i've had in the past. but conditioning otherwise fine, greens lush, white teeboxes in ok shape (some fairly worn out and sanded). btw, the course looks short on the card...we started off the blues, but after a handful of 3 and 4 iron/hybrid approaches, i swallowed my pride and played the rest off the whites. there's a reason why the blue tee boxes are pristine...
remodeling on the back 9 was done in the fall - basically the same sort of bunker work they did on the front back in 2005. nice, but doesn't dramatically change strategy (to my recollection)
it's a great course, serious test of golf (approach shots, greenside, greens!!!), and ignoring cost, i love it...but hard to know if it's really worth 2 bills...the residential nature of the course is a bit of a downer (homes line just about every hole) that keeps it from being a top shelf experience. (then again it doesn't cost what the pebble beach courses cost...)

Can't believe there haven't been any reviews for a year on Pasatiempo but here's mine: highly recommended by a friend but, to be honest, it was a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful MacKenzie design with a rich history, and I respect that. I guess I was just expecting more ... especially for 2 bills w/cart. I'd compare it to some of the high end OC/SD courses (minus the maturity/history) as far as layout and wow factor. Some nice views of the bay, hilly but walkable ... I don't know what the locals are paying but it sure must be a lot less than out of towners.

Played on 7/8. The course is one of the most challenging courses I have ever played. There are sands traps literally everywhere. The hills on the course make you realize that if you have problems walking the local muni course, you would be much better off getting a cart here. Some of the fairways must have been 45 degree climbs. The greens require your every patience in reading the breaks and getting the speed of putts down just right. A few of the holes have views to die for with the Monterey Bay & Monterey Peninsula easy to distinguish. History alone dictates you should play this course whenever in the area.

If you want a final examination of your golf game, this is it. It is everything you have heard and more. Winding its way through serene hillsides laced with beautiful California homes, with every type of tree and plant known to man, you don't get to enjoy the beauty because disaster lurks on every shot. You won't exhale until hours after you finish. Angles and depth deception make it very tough to commit to your shot and any small mistake puts you in deep trouble. But play well and you will feel like a master of golf! Play this course at least once in your life!

If you're in Monterey, its totally worth the hour drive to this classic course with tight fairways, lightining greens, and hilly lies. Hole 16 is just amazing! My favorite par 4 on the planet.

Played on Thanksgiving morning and although I didn't bring my best game with me, my round here was one more thing to be thankful for. They've pretty much finished the renovations to the course - restoring a lot, if not all, of the original bunkering - and it is in as perfect condition as I have ever seen any golf course. Even having played here a lot as a kid, I cannot remember it ever being in such good shape as it is now. Greens were a hair slower than I remember them typically being, which might've kept me from having a really patience-testing round. The fairways are truly perfect, the bunkers sparkling white, the tee boxes sqared-off, cut tight, and dead-level. They've taken out and/or trimmed back a number of trees recently to open up some beautiful views on the course. This absolutely remains the longest 6400 yards in golf, and is worth every penny and a trip from anywhere to play.

I was lucky enough to grow up within walking distance of this course, and I learned to play golf here. It's a true gem, and has gotten notably better within the past five years or so thanks to some judicious tree removal, some restoration of original bunkering, and a few other touches. It's an extraordinary challenge and a profoundly fair golf course in that good shots are consistently rewarded and bad shots consistently punished. The greens are exquisite both in conditioning and in design; they will test every aspect of your ability to feel and read. The scorecard might make it look rather short, but this is the longest 6400 yards of golf you will ever play, I promise. If you're even thinking about a pilgrimmage to Pebble, Spyglass, Poppy, Old Del Monte, and other Monterey-area courses, you absolutely owe it to yourself to drive an hour north to Santa Cruz and play this beauty. It'll blow you away.
