Played Mon 8/26. While Pasatiempo and Delaveaga get most of the attention in Santa Cruz, Seascape or Aptos Seascape as we always referred it as, is a gem of its own. Play here, Pasatiempo and Delaveag... Continue »

Played yesterday. Hard to believe this course is older (1926) than it's famous neighbor Pasatiempo (1929) up the road. Who knew golf was so popular in Santa Cruz in the 20"s? One of my favorite course... Continue »

A short par 5 finishing hole that should not be under estimated despite the brevity of length. The Tee shot is to avoid the collection of trees on the right of the fairway. A tall Monterey Pine on the left of the fairway and a severe slope down to the 10th fairway defines the second shots towards the green. Green side bunkers tighten up the approach to the hole. The play to the green needs to avoid ending up above the hole. Take great care, as the green slopes fairly severely from the back left to the front right. Balls that end up above the green leaves the player to critiques from the 'peanut gallery' which is directly above the green. It is after all where libations await the intrepid golfer.

The #2 handicap hole is packed with nuance. The hole is a slight dogleg left with a fairway that awards a well struck shot. The fairway slopes down to a valley past the 150y marker. The green rises up from the valley, an enticing target. There is a tight dense length of trees along the fairway. A hard pan collection area to the right can push your shot far off line and into the 11th fairway. Bunkers tighten up the plays to the green. And the green has a back to front profile that can punish a poorly struck putt from the side.
