Have been coming to CO for many years for golf trips and this year we are headed to CO Springs for The Women's US Open. We stopped off here in La Veta to play one of our favorite courses and a few others, before we reach CO Springs. Fantastic course done by Weiskopf/Morrish back when they were doing courses. The course has beautiful views of the Spanish Peaks part of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, which cause you to forget you are on a golf course. The course is in terrific shape, from tee to green. Plenty of water in the streams throughout the course and an abundance of wildlife, as well. The staff makes you feel like you are the only ones playing that day. This is CO golf at its finest, with no distractions. In many ways, it is hard to concentrate, with all the beauty of the course and the views that surround it. From the tips the course is 7,000 yards, but factor in the elevation, which is about 5K feet and the wonderful fairways and the yardage is a distant memory. This is one of those courses that ends up in your top 10/20 of your all time best, in my opinion. And before you leave the area, make sure you stop in Cuchara and have lunch/dinner/drinks at The Dog Bar (yes that is this name) a local favorite for many years.
