Aloha!

Looking forward to hearing about your August golf!

Hoping to get my first round of the year in Maui. Brought golf shoes, balls and glove, now just need a golf course and some rental clubs.

Some small windows in the family vacation to play so we'll see.

Hey Thanks Everyone

Was a crazy 24 hours leading up to getting here, almost did not happen, but here now. Happy.

Reached out to a few golf courses to see if they would have me out, no responses, no big deal, got no plans but to be with my family. Taking it day by day.

Had a first time experience the other day at Mt. Woodson. Wendy & I played as a twesome and caught up to another two at the 15th. On the 17th Three of us were on the green with birdie putts with Wendy just off the green with a par putt left. I went first and drained a 35' footer. Wendy went next and Bam! her 15' dropped in for par. One of the other guy's went and Bam! in went his 25 footer. The last guy had about a 20 footer up hill and Bam!! his went in. Three out of four one putts and a 0 putt for par !!

Played San Juan Hills yesterday. The story of the day wasn't my round, but I did hit the ball pretty solidly all day, minimal duff shots, but just couldn't get the ball into the hole much with the short game/flat stick.

But, the REAL story of the day was one of the 2 guys I played with got a HOLE-IN-ONE! Though he wasn't really playing well himself up to/and then after the par 3 7th hole, he put it all together in one swing for a very beautiful shot.

I had scoped the flag at 166 yards from the white tees, the blue pin near the center line of the green, pushed back to about 15 feet from the back apron. We had a helping, right-left wind, about 1-club helping. Last in the group to hit, he hit a 7-iron (I hit a 5w by comparison) that arced high and gracefully, starting just toward the right side of the green, drawing ever-so-slightly towards the pin-line. Aided/pushed a bit by the wind, the ball landed softly about 15 feet onto the green, took a few bounces and then proceeded on a R/L roll... and roll and roll some more (about 35 feet), and then.... disappeared into the hole! A wonderful sight to behold. Myself and his playing partner started walking off the tee and were chatting after he struck the ball. However, as the ball started to descend to the green, it was looking very good, so we stopped to acknowledge, cheer his shot and ball, as it was clearly a very nice shot. I am sure this helped. ;-)

When it dropped in, of course, a great celebration ensued, with a tossing of the club into the air, arms raised high in jubilation. High-fives multiple times, cheering and pats on the back. What a thrill for him (and us). First one for him. As rare as it is for any of us to get a hole-in-one, it is nearly as rare to be in the group with someone else getting one. His playing partner is his neighbor, so they will have this memory forever..."remember the time..." Great stuff!

Pretty day at Valencia cc yesterday with some breeze and the course was playing much easier as the rough were down and the greens were much slower than I remembered it to be.

Given that, I think I was still scared from my previous round there and I shot 45 in front. But after that, I had one birdie but three bogeys for a 38 at the back. I’ll take 83 there any day after not breaking a hundred on a previous round there.

I found myself with some free time on Friday afternoon, and with some cooler weather (only 98* at 2, compared to 116* earlier this week), decided to get a quick round in at AP. Decided on Palm, which looked pretty empty, and almost regretted it. While it's "easier," it has more carries off the tee, which doesn't go well with the case of snappy hooks I've been dealing with lately (I didn't talk about my round at Painted Desert, but it included 12 snap hook drives).

Fortunately and finally, made a grip change on 7 which changed the snaps to a livable and findable push. After a horrific front 9 which made think about quitting and going home, I turned it around on the back, shooting a 49-46-95. Putter failed me on the back, leaving a lot short and finished with 20 putts on the back.

Looking forward to 2 rounds next week, including a return to Laughlin Ranch.
