I got an email from Soule Park today saying York Golf Management will soon no longer manage the course. As a "Thank You," they're offering twilight rates after 10:00 a.m. June 24-30 if you have the email.

I've only played the course once about five years ago, and I really, really enjoyed it, but I know conditions have mostly gone downhill since then. Just wondering if anyone knows what the management change means for the course. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Hopefully ownership has some sort of good plan in place. Even though it's almost three hours from my house, I'd hate to see it/hear about it deteriorate even further.

This may explain some of it? It would appear the company is small and not large in revenues? Perhaps the County of Ventura (the owner of Soule) wants more improvements, etc and that would entail more revenue to accomplish those goals? As York appears to be small, perhaps it is not something they can accomplish (or want to) that a larger group could? Which eventually leads to higher green fees?

A recent (6/5/17) rating of Soule Park from GK'er Parman18 is 8.7. Doesn't sound like the conditions have deteriorated?

I didn't notice that. Hopefully it's true. No criticism of parman18 intended, but no other reviewer has rated it higher than 6.3 since late 2015.

Will be sad to see the York family go. I know Tyson York and have found him to always be a pleasant individual--I believe he does lessons up at Soule Park. I believe his family has been in the golf business for years. I have also been a great loyal supporter of Soule Park over the years even though its a good 50 minute to an hour drive away. Even though my honest ratings and reviews the past couple years have been in the 5 and 6 range that was strictly due to the lack of water and the drought conditions that most SoCal courses have endured. Throw in that Ojai gets REALLY hot in the summer and I am sure it can be burdensome to keep a great course up to par. I try to avoid the heat so most of my rounds there are spring and fall. Soule Park to me have always had the ingredients to be special:

1. Gil Hanse architect--love his courses--great layout at Soule.
2. Unbelievable great prices--at least $10-12 dollars more reasonable than most courses for what you get.
3. Peaceful Ojai vibe and mountain backdrop scenery.
4. Friendly staff.

I wish Tyson and his family nothing but the best wherever they choose to go.

I hope the new owners can keep the course around for years to come.

When they have ample water this course is a must play in my opinion.

QUOTED  It would be nice for any individual GKer that has played Soule Park to chime in or better still write a review to update us Pretty Please with JohnnyGK on top of it LOL

haha!
I didn't play there, but on 5/19/17 I drove by and saw what appeared to be straw-colored fairways on 17 and 18. I was going up to play Ojai Valley Inn and by comparison it looks like Soule Park is still somewhat on the dry side.

If I can get some time off this week, I will go and play Soule for that twilight rate after 10:00. Sounds like a good deal.
