Six months after closing its doors, the Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Club has a new owner who hopes to fix it up and reopen it this year.
Bridge Investment Group bought the 27-hole golf course Feb. 3 from Shaco Inc., which bought the 112-acre course only six months after it was put up for auction in a foreclosure sale. Shaco bought the property in August for $3.96 million and then sold it to Bridge for $5.25 million, according to property records filed with the Riverside County Assessor’s Office.

Although a bit of a hike for me, Moreno Valley Ranch was one of my favorite courses during its' heyday. Great variation between all three nines and one of the few Dye courses that I found tolerable. Incredibly challenging from shot-to-shot, I always used it as a measuring stick when it came to assessing my game. But when the wind picked up, all bets were off!

Hope the new ownership group is able to restore the facility to its' original state and attract enough play to keep it afloat. True, there are other options available in the Inland Empire, but MVR was a straightforward beast yet still fun to play. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I just read the full story and it should be noted that the new buyer is an investor in apartment buildings and plans to permanently close the Valley nine while reopening Mountain and Lake. They also want to build more apartments where the driving range currently exists, and eventually resell the golf course to a golf course operator.

While I'll be happy to have the course back in any capacity, I've always preferred the Mountain-Valley combo.

I liked the courses as well. Closest to a hole in one I ever had was on Mountain #7.

QUOTED  I've always preferred the Mountain-Valley combo.

I didn't reference the "game plan" but was going to express my concern as to whether or not all three nines would be reopened. I'll agree with you Mark, the Mountain-Valley combination was by far the best pairing but I shudder to think what the property is going to look like with additional housing...especially apartment-type...infringing on the "aesthetics". As I remember it, there were very few holes devoid of any housing so I suppose it won't be much of a shock, although I'd hate to see it turn into another Carmel Mountain Ranch.

QUOTED  Closest to a hole in one I ever had was on Mountain #7.

I came pretty close on #7 as well Rob; if there's ever a hole you'd want to claim an ace on, that would be it (with the exception of #16 at Cypress Point). One of the best Par-3s I've ever played...definitely Top 5 material...I couldn't wait to get to that tee box.

While I agree with the prior posts regarding the mountain/valley being the best combination, it also makes the most sense to convert the valley 9 given the topography of the various nines. If that's what it takes to get the other two back into shape I'm ok with it.

Really don't see the new owner being able to fix this course and reopen this year. Driven by several time since closing and it needs a bunch of work. Bett r to take the he time like Championship Links at Summerly, than to drive possible players away with sub-par conditions. Having said that I have always found this course to be rather average at best.

Sounds like they got a hell of deal, if they are able to build apartments there. Lets be real they could care less about the course. I hope they are not allowed to rezone thew property. It would be better just to have open space.
