We plan to play 5 courses including Torrey Pines. The other 4 I have provisionally put down are Maderas,Mt Woodson,Rancho Bernardo and Crossing at Carlsbad. Are these good choices?.Our budget is $60 per course and we are all seniors playing off handicaps ranging from 8 to 12. |

How do you plan to manage that? Twilight is tough to book when you are not a resident without paying more money plus...don't forget to add a cart $20 per person... If you can Manage... Torrey South-TW $137 with no cart Torrey North-TW $60 with no cart Barona (much like links play course) - TW rate $80 starts at 11am Golf Club of California -$50 ish and cheaper I am assuming you will have a rental car... Do yourself the favor and drive an extra 15 minutes and play this course Journey at Pechanga - TW rate is $59 on weekdays and $69 on weekends. This course is a MUST PLAY. |

Are you saying that as a non resident, I will have difficulty in booking Torrey North (twilight rate)? I was hoping to use the 3 month advance booking system. As we are available any day Mon - Fri will I have problems? Also I dont fully understand the advance booking fee of $43. Is this in addition to the $60 or just a deposit?I like the look of the 2 courses you recommended - Journey at Pechanga looks especially good. If you had a choice of playing this course (hassle free) or Torrey, which would you opt for? |

See how it works is when booking tee times, Torrey mens club get first dibs on spots, then San Diego city residents with a resident card, then everyone else... Booking a foursome CAN be difficult, not to say it doesnt happen, it does. But if you want to book longer than 7 days in advance, youre going to pay a fee just to book because you are jumping the pecking order. Since its a municipal course maintained by the city so they make sure the city taxpayers are taken care of first. My opinion...Well, here is the thing... I might have a different view of Torrey Pines than others because I am a resident and I pay a minimal fee to play this course. I would never ever pay the rack rate to play Torrey. Although it does have several positives going for it...PGA site, US Open site, beautiful views, good conditions, bunkers well maintained... For me, I would play the Journey without a moments hesitation and am always excited for summer when the sun is up with plenty of time to play for the low low rate they allow. The course is maintained so beautifully. Either way, choosing between these two, you cannot lose. |

Depending on when you are looking to play, I could try and book a time for 3 and my father in law could book for 3 and youd be able to get out but you would have to split your group up |

Of course I'm not exactly sure when it will be but just keep that in mind. I can't argue against the others mentioned but if you're looking for a cheap round Coronado is only $35. The course is not going to wow you but it's a nice walk and it's Coronado obviously. |

I have played over 150 of them roughly 50% of total. |

I think Journey is a better course. Torrey has the name. I am a San Diego area resident but not a City resident so it still costs me $$$ to play Torrey. |
