The more golf, the better. I like to play once a week and always looking to make new golf friends.

Figuring out ways to get more people out on the course having fun and enjoying each other company is always a good idea. For me golf is a social game best played with friends both old and new.

I like the idea. I would love to play in Paisano's LA golf league, but the drive from SD to some of the courses is not in the cards. This works especially because of the hard times I have had trying to get my schedule to match up with the schedule of the GK events. I vote yes

It's a great idea. The only reason I haven't played in official GK Events is that they are such a hike from where I live...maybe some of these gatherings could be towards the east OC/west IE area...hint hint!

My vote is yes. Do it!

QUOTED  arranging some group deals exclusively for site members

When you say group deals, it implies some sort of discount. Any kind of discount would definitely be appreciated. What can I say? Folks like a discount.

QUOTED  We started doing this with the golf league.

Paisano is correct. The league has brought new people to GK as well.

QUOTED  Just an idea, as we are playing in this ongoing match play event, we are playing the singles version. I am interested in the other match play formats like better ball or alternate shot. Team GKer's going up against each other.

Dude! I like the idea of team formats as well. These formats are fun and sometimes can speed up play. Are you familiar with the Chapman format?

A point I would like to make is, if you notice in my first post here I mention everyone by real name instead of their screen name. That is a very large part of the benefit of getting together. I have faces and names to put to the screen name. As they have become friends we know each other by our "street" names. A definite benefit to these gatherings.

Ok, trying again. Computer and GK site have decided to duke it out.

I think it's a FANTASTIC idea! I'm always up for hanging out with other GKers! I think that perhaps it might bring in some new site members too. I know that some folks are hesitant to jump into the Event format so perhaps a more informal gathering would be easier to join. :-)

I also like the idea of different formats. My local club plays a different format every week. It's fun to try new stuff and to never know what the format is until right before the round.

Got my vote- now hurry up and get going! The season's wasting!! LOL

Johnny, I believe you are onto something here...It's been years since I belonged to a "MEN'S CLUB" where you play the same course just about every weekend....Maybe you can call it the "GK CLUB" event where different course and locations are used to get together. It most likely will mean more participation and some logistical challenges.

For me, I am NOT always available to play for different reasons and because I'm out "looping" some place, quite often it seems to be very last minute notice unless it's a PRO scheduled event.

I've started using the "MEET ME" here link a little bit more than in the past. When Sbogey (Steve) joined me @ Oak Valley last week, I was actually doing research for the upcoming Pro Q-school, we had a BLAST just the two of us, no pressure, just out having a good time playing a course that was within driving distance for both of us.

A "MEN'S CLUB" is a commitment playing the same course, having a gathering say TWO weeks before a GK event or TWO weeks after could be a way to go, get to play different layouts...Between here (LB) and (PS) are some great courses to meet up at.

I like the thoughts and support coming in!

Got to thinking too, if the course if fine with it, we can even make so you pay at the course instead of in advance when possible.

OK then, lets get to planning!

I like what addictedtugolf said about keeping them spaced out by a couple weeks in regions where there is a GK Event.

Notice I said regions…because I don’t want to limit this. Heck, I’d love to see a GK Plays every week if possible spread across regions all over where GK’s course database reaches.

Arizona members – May or June would be great time for GK Plays, let me hear your thoughts.

Oregon, in couple months your weather is going to be amazing and your courses as lush and beautiful as anywhere…let me know your thoughts.

Washington, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Hawaii, Florida…you name it, if GK’ers are motivated enough to want to play golf together and up for writing detailed course review after playing, then I’ll start making calls and do my best to line something up for you.

Use the internal mail system here on GK and start reaching out to each other. Also, I will create special sections in the forums so you can exclusively talk and arrange GK Plays in your regions. I’ll do all I can to help make them happen but ultimately its going to come down to how proactive members are at contacting each other to arrange them.

Before we plan some GK Plays, here is the current events/gathering list for 2012.

Event: May 4, Robinson Ranch – Southern California
Event: June 2, Mt. Woodson – Southern California
GK Plays: June 15 & 16, Stevinson Ranch – Central/Northern California
Event: July 28, Malibu Golf Club – Southern California
Event: September 29, Monarch Dunes Golf Club – Central California

Tentatively I’m looking to do an Event in October and December in Southern California.

Also I have a lot of admiration for the group Tonybarrett & Paisano run on MeetUp.com called LAGolfGroup and don't want to hurt their events but doing GK Plays very close to their dates that are in Los Angeles/Ventura. You know, maybe we'll even team up with them to do some GK Plays/LAGolfGroup golf dates.

Lets keep using this forum thread a little while so to create more broad attention for GK Plays and then I’ll copy some of the posts and start new threads specific to regions as interest grows.

Golf Courses I know people at where we don’t have a GK Event planned for 2012 yet in

Southern California:

Oak Quarry, Redhawk, Green River, Anaheim Hills, Tustin Ranch, Tijeras Creek, Olivas Links, Moorpark CC, Black Gold, Yucaipa Valley, The Crossing at Carlsbad, Maderas, Rancho San Marcos, Sandpiper, Desert Willow, Escena, Classic Club, SilverRock, The Links at Summerly, Anaheim Dad Miller, Strawberry Farms, La Purisima, Hunter Ranch.

Nevada:

Las Vegas Paiute, Badlands, Primm Valley, Silverstone, Rio Secco, The Revere, Wolf Creek.

Arizona:

TPC Scottsdale

* Now I’m not saying I can arrange something for sure at these tracks but again I'd give it my best effort.

If you are thinking about other courses, fine by me, but keep in mind although the leverage we have is the golf courses want to have GK’ers out there to write detailed reviews about their tracks. So obviously we don’t want to consider courses in less than great shape at certain times of the year. So do your research. Read GK reviews of the present and past. I’ll lend my two cents as well.

I'm very excited about this. I think it could be a huge shot in the arm for our online community to grow closer than ever.

Thanks!

Hey, Johnny, this is fabulous!

All ideas above sounds great and it's a great new spin to getting together in a bond.

If you don't mind, I'll share some ideas that we've been doing with just a few guys (12) who does something like this a few times a year.

One of the most fun we've been doing is the cook off tournament. In this particular outing, most of the guys are chefs from different restaurants and they all love golf. We do a 4 or 5 days thing with lots of golf daily-- sometimes in same course, or a couple of courses. The girls does the groceries while the guys/chefs play golf. We get to a place (or home) after the round and the main ingredients are ready to be cooked.

It's an "Iron Chef" competition at night and golf competition during the day. 12 chefs/cooks challenge each other 4 chefs a night. We do a live webcam and broadcast the Iron Chef competition to friends who we allow to vote, post comments. . . etc. It's really fun! We get viewers from everywhere who shares the link.

Basically it's a golf party for a week, but it's a very special party for everyone.

I guess, you don't have to be a chef to do something fun like this. . . if there are- then, even better. . . I'm not a chef, but it's fun to compete with the big boys and come close . . . or flop (lol)

In a sense, GK could do a theme for every outing at different places. It could be as simple as "Poker Nights" to which another thing we do without the ladies. We pick a host course, play it for 5 days, twice a day in formats of anything you could think of. But poker is optional.

Small groups are easier to work with these things. Packaging might be an idea, as well. Maybe you could start it out with a two days, two nights. Some of the restaurants are all very willing to prepare a special for the group each night. . . or it could be as quiet as pizza and beer night. . . I'm sure some of the guys probably knows a chord or two on the gee-tar and have an unplugged night. . . anything really till the sun comes up again.

I've seen some post on "cigars", I'm sure there are some aficionados here in the GK world-- get them together, Johnny!

How about a Name Brand outing-- If you are a TaylorMade guy or a Titleist guy. . . Make a weekend out of it. "The Titleist Weekend" show and wear your outfits, your equipments. . . These are common things that they will all enjoy together.

A "Couples Outing", it would probably be difficult to get Freddy involve, but, I'm sure there are hundreds of couples wanting to go out with other couples.

Eat, Golf, and play more golf!

Thanks,

_no'l

It's never the same each round-- even on the same course. The fun is all about making it better than the last time.

So many good people in golf-- just about everywhere I play. The fun is to go out and play with them.

Since we are going to do this, we need a better name. I decided on something short and to the point that will be easy to brand.
