From I-15 exit Limonite Ave and head East. Go a 1/4 mile and make a Right onto Wineville Rd. After a stop sign Wineville Rd will become 68th Street. Look for entrance on the right side.
Got to say…reading all the positive comments posted about Goose Creek over the last 12 months has had me inching to play this little gem for some time. I was not let down, in fact it was better then I expected!
Layout: Fabulous
Not one hole was a let down. The layout was challenging, beautiful, fair, and interesting. Goose Creek is a flat course that reminds me a little of Rustic Canyon but without the large aprons. There are many scenic backdrops and nasty fairway bunkers to deal with. There are also some hazards to steer clear of and water to carry. One aspect of the layout I particularly liked was the demanding yet forgiving tee shots. It allows you to take a nice big rip at the ball but will punish you if get overly inaccurate. Today was a very windy day and many people canceled as a result but I must say they really missed out on some great golf. I found Goose Creek to play very well in the wind since it lets you work the ball into the fairways and greens from many directions. Rather then go on and on, I think the photos speak for themselves.
Playing Conditions: Great
Greens:
Fast, Mostly Smooth, and Very Firm.
The greens rolled well with exception to a few holes that had some ball mark damage. My Rating: 8
Fairways: Lush and Firm.
The ball sat up terrific and provided plenty of roll off the tee. The only hole I noticed some bare and thin spots on was #12.
My Rating: 9
Rough: Lush and Short.
Very well kept, some thin spots, and defined the fairways beautifully. Not to difficult to hit from and cut at about 1 ½ inch length.
My Rating: 8
Sand Traps: Well Kept and Firm.
Too firm for my tastes but I can see where others wouldn’t mind especially if they are trying to escape from one of the nasty fairway bunkers.
My Rating: 7
Tee Boxes: Lush and Level.
The tee boxes are huge which gives the course plenty of options to move the tees around to prevent significant divot damage.
My Rating: 9
Overall:
This course is a diamond in the rough. I drove 173 miles round trip and would gladly do it again. It doesn’t have the fancy clubhouse or amenities but “WOW” what a course. I now see why Greenskeeper.org members ranked it 7th overall in our 2003 end year value ratings.
