I played here this morning with a sub 6AM Tee time to see if I could finally beat the 5 hr round that always comes with this place. Unfortunately, NO. In fact it got so bad that I quit after 12 holes and walked across the entire course back to the parking lot. Conditions of the course are pretty identical to my last review. the only real difference is that fairways were in a bit better shape side to side and the tee boxes were a bit uneven.

All in all this is a fun challenging track with solid conditions tee to green. All at an acceptable price point. However, the the dreaded 5 hr round during mid week and early early morning will most likely prevent me from coming back. I couldn’t image what this place is like on a weekend during prime time. Play here if you have a day to kill, otherwise avoid it.

Played on Thursday 1/23 in the afternoon just barely finishing before it got too dark. I love the layout of Callippe Preserve and conditions are always pretty good. Customer service and price point are on point as well. The only downside to this place is the pace of play which is always slow and a guaranteed 5 hour round no matter when you tee off.

Greens are awesome at Callippe. They offer a generous landing surface without too many bunkers in the way yet the greens are not docile by any means. All have very subtle yet distinctive undulations that make you think. Greens rolled at a great medium fast pace and rolled fairly smooth even if they did get a little spongy in the late afternoon.

Fairways were green and lush for the most part. They presented a nice hitting surface but still offered some roll out. No complaints with the tee boxes. Sand traps were a bit hit and miss and that was within each trap. Half the trap had a lot of sand while other parts of the same trap were thin.

I will say that I encountered a lot of unprepared pitch marks on the greens as well as most bunkers had foot prints in them.

Course is worth playing and gets a recommendation for sure. Just as long as you’re not in a hurry.

It’s a challenging layout that makes it fun but my guess is it leads to a lot of lost balls which causes the delay while people are searching

I played here a couple days ago joining a threesome if locals. It’s been a few months since I’ve played this course and not much has changed since the last time. And that’s a good thing! Naturally with all the rain it was CPO and the fairways weee a bit damp. Nothing too bad but certainly wet enough to keep carts off and effect roll out. The rest of the course was in really nice shape. Traffic got backed up at the turn so we opted to play the front nine twice Greens were a bit bumpy in the late hours of sunlight but that’s to be expected. Other than that they rolled fine.

It’s a hilly and challenging course that’s fun to play.

Played Callippe yesterday afternoon in warm weather with little wind. This is about my 3rd-4th time playing the course and the “local” knowledge certainly helps navigate this fun hilly layout. The course really puts an accuracy over distance. Especially on the back nine. There are unique hole designs that I enjoy, but I could see how others might find them gimmicky or difficult

Condition wise the course is pretty solid tee to green. The greens rolled smooth at a medium-slow pace. Most greens have moderate slope and are double tiered. Enough to challenge you but not so severe you are cursing them out

Fairways were nice. They were lush with good coverage throughout and only a few thin areas. Most tee boxes were level with lush coverage, though a couple were a bit uneven. Nothing too bad though. Sand traps were fine and the rough was decent enough. A couple spotty areas but mainly good coverage throughout

POP was painfully slow. Right at 5 hours for a late afternoon round. Customer service was great. This is tough course to walk but doable.

Wanting to check out a never played before course while up in Fremont, I decided on Callippe Preserve. This course sits a couple miles off Hwy 689 between Sunol and PLeasanton. Course is tucked up in the foothills that was mainly dry hills. The two kids in the pro shop were excellent and the starter was OK. I joined to local retiree’s who guided me around this fun but tricky layout. The course has a ton of elevation changes throughout and a number of forced carries over barranca. It has a good mixture of holes that require strategy off the tee.

Greens had some serious undulations to them. They rolled true but at a slow pace. Greens also held approach shots very well. Fairways were also nice and lush for the must part. There were a few thin brown areas but not that many. Overall the fairways were very nice.

Rough wasn’t too penal. Just enough to hold up your ball from rolling into the barranca. Tee boxes and bunkers were of good quality. POP was slow (almost 5 hours) which is apparently the norm for this place. Overall it was a fun course and I’ll definitely play it again.

This is going to be a mixed review. Usually, I love a golf course... or I dislike a golf course. This was the tale of two golf courses... (in one round)... The front side. And the back side.... of Callippe Preserve Golf Course. The front side is definitely the flatter of the two sides. Nice wide fairways, no real trees to get you into any trouble. Nothing is lush about either the fairways or the rough. Thin and bare spots abound. Very dry and plenty of roll. I can't say enough about the greens. They were wonderful. Held all shots well and putted true. Then there's the back side. The back side was: a) Windy b) Gimmicky c) Tricky d) Targety or, e) All of the above. The answer is... E!! Course knowledge would have saved me about 5 or 6 shots. There are some holes where there are there are 2 ravines that you have to clear.. I lost quite a few balls not knowing how far my shots would roll. Overall it was a fun day but ... ... I'm not sure I would repeat. I started early so I could beat the wind but by the time we made the turn, the wind was really blowing. 4.5 hour round . My score: 48-53=101... Still fun!

I teed up around 11am on 5/11/20 (single) and played a full round in under 2.5 hours (with cart). Not too many players in front of me, but each group I encountered allowed me to play through. The club did a great job of posting info on their website and informing players of the changes they made to ensure the health and safety of its customers due to COVID-19 which I really appreciated.
Fairways and greens were well maintained and greens were firm. Sand looked very good/plush but, due to COVID-19, there were no rakes and I didn’t hit out of the bunkers. Tee boxes were in pristine condition. It’s a challenging course due to the heavy rough on the shoulders of the fairways, crisscrossing ravines, and strong wind gusts out of the NW (particularly on the front 9). Back 9 is more technical with tighter fairways, but it’s just as gorgeous. This is an awesome course and I highly recommend it.

The last stop on my trip was a bonus round I was not expecting to squeeze in. I'm so glad I was able to, though, because I've been dying to play here for a long time. Adding to the appeal was paying the weekday late twilight rate of $43, which was worth every penny. It wasn't super crowded when I teed off around 3:30, but there were just enough players out there to slow me down a little. I ended up joining another single on the 3rd tee and it was an enjoyable round with still a great pace of just under 3 hours.

The course was in exceptional condition. Seriously, I was impressed at just how nice it was out here. Everything was lush, green and beautifully maintained. Maybe a few thin spots in the rough around some bunkers, but not many flaws to be found. Ideal greens that were firm, yet receptive and rolling pure at nice speeds. Nice bunkers, as well. Just awesome.

If you've ever thought about playing here, now is the time because the spring conditions are so wonderful. As for the layout, I loved it. The front nine eases you in with scenic views and somewhat forgiving holes. Then, the back nine really ramps up the drama and challenge as you go up and down the hills, through the canyons and along one signature hole after another. Some players may find the back nine a bit too much, but I really enjoyed it and I couldn't have asked for a better way to end my trip. Highly recommend this course.
