Played Callippe Preserve for the first time Thursday and can see why this course was voted “Most Worth The Green Fee” in the East Bay Area, Northern California. It’s an excellent track. Very hilly and visually pleasing. Great combo of easy and difficult holes. I liked how the front nine was more forgiving off the tee and on approach so you could get plenty warmed up in time for a very challenging back nine. Some super tough closing holes – especially 18. BTW - bring your best putting stroke because there are many greens with extreme undulations.

Regarding conditions, overall good. Despite the very hot dry summer followed by the 4 inches of rain a couple days before, the course played well – drained excellent. There were occasional thin/bare spots in the rough and fairways – but overall lush. As for the greens, a little slow and but mostly smooth. Looked like a minor aeration took place a week before but I can see them looking great in a week or so. Tee boxes in excellent shape as well as the bunkers (fresh new sand in the ones I was in).

I highly recommend this course.
