I have played this course for almost 30 years and seen it though many a change. The most current "improvements" have come on the back nine in the form or seemingly random mounds lining the two par 5's. Some of the new mounds are not even in play, and the ones that are actually make the short par fives easier by funneling drives back to the fairway that would normally find the rough. I have to believe they added these mounds for aesthetics and not for playability. Regardless, they are making efforts to make this old school track rival some of the new courses in the area. Unfortunately there's only so much real estate to work with so it will always be a short, tight track where houses will be in-play on 14 of the 18 holes. It's wise to keep the driver in the bag for the first 3, and for the longer hitters 5 holes. If you have a hard time driving it straight you'll post a better score leaving the driver at home altogether. They've made great strides in replacing some of the old greens, but because not all have been replaced, and the fact that the native grass is intruding on the newer greens, the greens are inconsistent. Playing on the weekend will test anyone's patience. With the plethora of OB and regular hackers that frequent on the weekends, play is sloooowwwww. I play SRGC for the convenience and nostalgia, and while it's a decent test of accuracy and in better shape than most muni's, if I have an extra 15 minutes to spare, and a couple of gallons in the tank I much prefer a Callippe or a Poppy Ridge tour at the NCGA rate.

Played week of 8/20/07 - Major construction ongoing on at least three holes on the back nine. Massive dirt and gravel piles along the full lengths of fairways, heavy equipment crossing the fairways, and lots of noise. I suggest waiting to play until the course renovation is completed. Call the course to get updates on construction activity.

I grew up on this course. I just started playing it again after a long break from golf. This course has come a long way in the past 5-7 years. New management has redone alot of the irrigation system and I think this course is in the best shape it has been in the 13 or so years I have played it.

Very good family course (good place for the kids & new to the game) - Very flat, but pretty narrow on most holes. Not much water (but #9 is a blast over water). Watch out for the houses!

Weekends are very busy, and some weekdays can also be. Pace is layed-back, don't be in a hurry. Lately the fairways have been in excellent shape!

Cost/Value is pretty good. Very nice staff!

Greens really tough. Fast with lots of undulations. Short fairly narrow course with some quirky holes. Challenging but fun to play. Played in under 4hrs

Played this course on 10/13/06. Course was not very difficult, but had narrow fairways. Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good, some waiting, but still finished in 4:15. The greens to me were just ok, about medium fast. For a muni course it wasn't bad.

Played San Ramon GC for the first time. I found it very fair and surprisingly well kept up for a heavily played muni course.
What especially is inviting are the "family tees" for golfers or youngsters just starting out.

I've played San Ramon GC many times. The course is well maintained year round. A challenging course, with wide open fairways, for all caliber of golfers. The staff are always friendly and ready to assist you in any way. Green fees are low for a course this nice.

San Ramon Royal Oaks is a very fun and fair golf course. It is known for it's island green. The course has been recently aerated and thashed and will be in perfect condition around 4/20. It is a great course for the value and I can't wait to play it again. It has a very good practice area and a nice range too.
