This was the first time that I played here. We lucked out weather wise. There was no wind, but from what I've heard it can get windy here. I thought the course was in pretty good shape especially for the price. We walked and pace a play was decent. We finished in four hours, although it was friday. The 10th green is a completely blind shot. Make sure that you play the right side of the fairway or you'll be looking for your ball in a ravine (that you can't get to). Overall I enjoyed the course and would play it again.

Sunol Valley has two courses and I have played the Cypress on two occasions. The holes are varied and no two look the same. Some blind shots makes finding your ball difficult, and on the 10th, over watering makes a DEEPLY plugged drive a distinct possibility.

I call this my hooky course, as my wife and I took our son out of school one day (he didn't want to go on that particular field trip anyways), and played 18. Along those lines, the staff was cool with three of us on the cart, didn't charge for a 7 year old, and gave him a couple balls to start his round.) Little did they know that the guy knows how to play and can stick it from about 100. = )... Downside it that the fairways have bare spots, the layout is weird at times, errant balls can make you feel like a duck in a shooting gallery, and the freeway is noisy. Who cares, two courses, good pricing, and you are out of the office. Sounds good to me!

Do to course conditions, I seldom play here. I give it a try twice a year but I'm always disappointed.

Tee Boxes: long grass. Fairways: thin, bare lies, crabgrass. Greens: slow, bumpy, spongy.

GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY. BOTH ON THE COURSE AND IN THE BAR/CAFE
IF THE GREENS CAN BE ROLLED AND MADE HARD WOULD BE A TOP COURSE
IT'S A OLD TIME GOLF COURSE NO HOMES AROUND IT .THE FREEWAY IS A PROBLEM BUT BETTER THAN 300 HOUSES!

Sunol Cypress is a rather short course with a few strange "tricks". On the first hole you can hit a perfect tee shot in the middle of the fairway and be left with a shot over a tree to a blind pin. The ninth hole also has a tree in the middle of the fairway which must be negotiated on the right side of the fairway since a shot to the left of the tree will most likely be in the red-stake hazard on the left. The most bizarre is the tenth hole where landing a perfect second shot in the middle of the fairway will either end up kicking into a bunker or into a red-staked hazard. The third shot on this par five is equally goofy since the green is directly behind a tree-truly a "cartoon" hole!

The fairways were rather hard when I played (Sept, 19) and as a result a lot of strange bounces and kicks resulted from otherwise decent shots. Followed a group where a guy was on the cell-phone at least half the time. Saw one Marshal in 18 holes and he did nothing to speed up play. How about instituting a two shot penalty for using a cell-phone on the golf course? If you are so important, you should stay at work!!

The SVGC is doing a great job keeping the course in good playing shape. Their electonic reserervation system is superior, and the Players club promotion system is working quite well. They could improve tee box conditions by making mix available at tee boxes and on carts to repair divots.
