There is a lot of work underway at the moment until end of year 2009 to reconfigure Vineyards/Lakes to the Front Nine
Conditions are good for now with 18 holes available. Soon new cartpaths will integrate the 2 'old' nines while Meadows remains and will be the Back nine. Temporary scorecard is in effect until a new rating/slope/Hdcp review completed. Then new scorecards to be printed. If in doubt about conditions, best to call the Pro shop as the course website is lacking with information.
Cheers,
Sunny

UPDATE: Monday 15 Feb 10 - Still playing old nines. New course not yet ready; some new cart paths in place but re-configuration not completed. Also still with the temp scorecard. Contact pro-shop for latest conditions.
Cheers

Just got this from the course!

Napa Golf Associates, LLC., owners and operators of the Chardonnay Golf Club, in the Napa Valley, announce the upcoming “re-launching” of their golf facility. Ken Laird, a local Napa Valley wine industry entrepreneur and managing partner of the ownership group, along with his partners Jim & Gus Gianulias, California real estate developers, had established a goal to make the Chardonnay Golf Club the premier golf facility in the Napa Valley ever since acquiring the 27-hole golf club out of bankruptcy in August of 2005. Unfortunately, since acquiring the facility, the slump in the golf economy that started back in 2001 hasn’t rebounded and has been exacerbated by the current economic recession. According to the National Golf Foundation (NGF) and other golf associations (PGA of America, National Golf Course Owners association and others), rounds of golf nationally have been in a fairly steady decline since 2001 as a result of the total reduction of golfers from a high in 2000 of 30M golfers down to approximately 26M in 2006. During that period of time, new golf courses were continuing to be built resulting in an over-supply of golf holes available to play and an extremely competitive golf marketplace. The end result has been a significant downward financial pressure on golf course owners and operators and their abilities to meet their objectives.
The Chardonnay Golf Club, in response to the current golf marketplace dynamics, and in it’s on-going efforts to realize the initial goals of ownership to create the premier golf facility in the Napa Valley, have decided to commit 100% of their resources into the upkeep and maintenance of an 18-hole golf course facility instead of 27-holes. According to Roger Billings, PGA General Manager at Chardonnay, “By transforming the club from 27-holes to 18-holes we will be able to realize our owners goal of becoming the “premier” golf club in the Napa Valley region by making the necessary improvements and enhancements to the golf course in order to elevate it to that status. As an added benefit to the Napa Valley wine country region, we can add to the surrounding agricultural and viticultural ambiance by increasing the total acreage of vineyards that surround the golf course.”

According to Billings, the new 18-hole routing will formally open on April 1 and be the result of combining holes from the old Vineyards nine and Lakes nine layouts to create a new front nine (Holes 1-9); with the existing Meadows nine hole layout remaining intact and becoming the new back nine (Holes 10-18). One of the unique features of this new par 72, 18-hole routing will be the configuration; which will include six (6) par fives, six (6) par fours and six (6) par threes. Part of the transition process included enhancements to the course through the addition of new fairway bunkers and water features. New tee boxes were added to lengthen some of the holes bringing the new layout to 6,948 yards from the back tees. Additional enhancements to the facility in the way of more tee boxes & bunkers and other improvements are scheduled to take place over the next couple of years.

Plans are underway for an invitation only “Grand Re-Launching” celebration event on Thursday, April 1st. In addition, the Chardonnay Golf Club would like to invite the golfing public out to the course the first two weeks of April to check out the new 18-Hole course layout and take advantage of their “Swing Into Spring Launch” special. For more information and details on this promotion, contact the golf shop at (707) 257-8950 Ext: 3226 or visit the club’s website at: www.chardonnaygolfclub.com

The Chardonnay Golf Club is a full-service championship golf course facility located at 2555 Jameson Canyon Road (Hwy 12) just Southeast of the City of Napa at the “gateway” to the world-renowned Napa Valley.
