I have lived in Napa almost all my life. I've played every course, public and private several times. Eagle Vines by far, is the best course with the best staff in the whole North Bay if not all Northern California. I have joined as a member after looking at the many deals now afforded by courses around the Napa/Sonoma/Solano area. Greens are in great shape and make you think. You never hit the same shot to the green day to day. I've hit every club in my bag from the whites, and alot of long, mid irons from the fairways from the blues. The views are spectacular at all hours of the day. Rates are reasonable, online discounts available for all times/days. Twilight rate for a course of this stature among the best in the industry with cart. Staff is extremely friendly, many times getting offers of being driven to my car. For a public course this is outstanding. I hope to stay a member here for the rest of my playing days...

Teed off today about 10:30 and finished at about 2 pm, not many people here today. The staff and starter were friendly. Kind of a unique course being surrounded by the vineyards, can't say I've done that before. As for the conditions of the course a couple of greens were pretty ugly looking (#1 and 17 stand out) but all the greens rolled decently. The greens do have some undulation but on the scorecard you have the pin placements. The pin was in the 1 location today and in my opinion #12 (1st par 3 on the back) was not in the location it should have been. 1 is in the back left and the pin was in the middle and I stuck it in the back. I was very disappointed when I drove up and saw the actual pin location b/c coming back up the slope to this middle pin location was difficult. If you do miss the greens in the wrong spot the putting can be difficult. The fairways were in decent shape and so was the sand. Can't say there is any real rough here to speak of. I'm not sure this is worth the rack rate I paid for it but I ran into an older gentleman who got the senior rate of $45 and that's a decent rate for this track. Another thing that bothered me was the range was irons only which is not in of itself what bothers me. What bothers me is that 2 of the 1st 3 holes are par 5s. Seriously hole 1 and 3, come on now.

Played on Sunday, 10.12.08 @ 12:18 pm. Golf course was is pretty good condition. Having worked in golf course management in the past (Assistant Superintendent) for 6-7 years I can say with accuracy that the greens at Eagle Vines were running at 11+ on the Stimp. Easily an 11. While some might think greens this fast to be the mark of superior turfgrass conditioning, Eagle Vines just gets it all wrong. Greenspeed must coincide with undulation and the greens @ Eagle Vines have plenty (at times severe) of undulation. This combination of green speed and undulation renders the experience @ Eagle Vines a joke.
That is right, I said it. A JOKE. Or at least a ridiculous sham.
With everyone out on the course 4 putting each green our round took 6+ hourse. We teed off @ 12:30pm and finished almost in darkness @ 6:50 pm. The combination of 11+ stimp and a few ridiculous pin placements made for a crap round where you chatted with the group in front and behind on every tee.
The bright spot? At least the cart gal came around 6 or 7 times.

You don't get many experiences better than this one. I played this course on a twilight rate for $30, including cart. This course is in Napa Valley, literally in the vineyards. There are views of the surrounding hills, valley and vineyards from every tee box. The course is a fantastic layout which incorporates several holes from the old, private private Shakespeare Club, along with their renowned island green at the 6th. The real gem, though, is the view from the tee box on the 7th. This is a spot where you almost hope that play slows down in front of you. To linger here is bliss. You can see forever...all the valley before you. The pace this afternoon was leisurely, as you might expect, and my group made the turn to 16 at around 6:20 pm (we tee'd off at 3pm). After a couple of groups made the push and another called it a day (dinner in the valley?), we were the last group to come through on 17 and 18. Standing on the the tee box at 17 was one of those "how lucky am I..." moments, with the sun setting and a faint moon breaking over the vineyards. I just don't know of a better combination of golf setting, course layout and value around the bay area. If you do, let me know. The conditioning is superb and the greens are fair and true. There are multiple tee boxes with yardage ranging from 6,250 to 7,283. Something for everyone, from the serious to casual golfer. Throw in the 19th hole clubhouse patio and this twilight deal may just be the best on the planet. Without a doubt, this is one of the best public tracks in NoCal.

I played on a weekday in late morning and was sent out as a single. Course was in terrific shape: greens were smooth and soft (almost every ball spun back), fairways in good shape as are the tee boxes, although a bit damp for my taste (I had some drives that rolled all of 3 feet after landing). Course meanders through some vineyards and when you are on the higher parts of the course, the views are just mesmerizing.

Layout was fun, doesn't play as long as the yardage indicates (I played from the blue tees at 6800yds and only had to hit long irons 2 times into the greens, mostly used wedges/short irons). Landing areas off the tee are very generous. Cart girl must have checked up on me 5+ times throughout the round. Only drawback is the range is irons only. Very enjoyable course.

This is a challenging course with fast greens. It is in fantastic condition. However, the experience was ruined by the course starter. As a result, my club will never go back.

The greens are the best I have seen them here. Fast and soft and holding. Lush presentation with quick fairways all holes. Pace of play for the afternoon was very good. Nicely attended by drinks cart and loved the challenge of the course. Can't wait to return.

With strong winds and cool temps (64) the blues played very long even though the fairways were dry and quick. Excellent grooming with watering continuing making all of the course very lush. The greens were the most impressive. Fast but soft and holding. Tee time of 1:57 saw few players in front and none behind allowing 4hours 15 mins for the round. Good drinks cart frequency and nice marshalls with a great layout for the challenge. Can't wait to get back.

I played this course in September and I loved it! It was a beautiful day on the course. All cuts were in perfect condition and the pace of play was perfect! This is a must play course for anyone!

This was my first round at EV. Despite all the recent rain, the course was bone dry, the fairways cut tight and it played pretty fast. Greens were pretty good, the bunker sand a fine powder and there was plenty of it. This course will test your skills! Not an easy course to walk, if you choose to do so. Those of you that want to take it on from the tips (over 7000 yards), I'm warning you - unless you have some serious game, you are in for a long, long day. Good luck. I recommend this course and will be back soon.

This is a tough golf course from the Blue Tees. Lots of Hazards, soft sand in the bunkers and greens that at times were like greased lightning. Overall a great experience. Will play again to see if I can play better there.

We enjoyed Eagle Vines. I would probably rate the course a four on a scale of 1-5. For the most part the holes are interesting, the course is well maintained, and the service is good. One hole that we did not enjoy was approx. #13 - a 420+ par 4 from the whites. Given the length, a driver off the tee is necessary to have a chance at par but the fairway is very narrow with white stakes virtually on the edge of the fairway.

The greens at Eagle Vines are recovering from aerification and should be back to their "Johnny Miller" state shortly - they are still a bit shaggy and bumpy. The two areas I saw today that concerned me the most were numerous unlevel tee boxes and the traps. "Unlevel" says it all for that, but the traps could use a better quality sand...minus the rocks I saw in some of them...not a good thing. Top-notch staff. If you ever want to practice your wind game, this is the place...it comes at you. With all the water on this track, it's a good test of all of your game, and it makes you think your way around it. Would be nice if they had all the waterfalls running during the week too.

Played 5/1, worth the drive and green fee, got an
online discounted rate with cart and balls. In great
shape, greens just a little gritty from fertilizer, but fast
and true. Wind made it tough. A challenging layout,
greens are full of undulations. Setting is hard to beat,
among the vineyards, not housing. Just 4 holes along the
highway. Like this one better than Chardonnay.

Played 3/29, on a beautiful day. This is an excellent course that I don't feel is overpriced, but it is even better if you can catch a discounted tee time!

Played this course for the first time. expecting it to be a 'quality' golf course(like a good private course). Here's what I found.

It was a good golf course, some holes are great, most are just good enough to call this a good all around golf course. just enough scenic beauty to be good, but not enough to call it great. One thing that was great were the putting greens. best, most true greens Ive played on in the whole bay area.

Johnny Millers design on half the holes created long long, monotonously long par 4's.... too many of them.one or two 475 yard par 4's are enough. this course, thanks to him has about 5. which means all day youre hitting a drive and a 2 iron.
So my best advise is when you play there......dont just tee off every hole from the same black,or blue tees all the time. mix it up. hit from the blacks on the par 5's. hit from the whites on some of those 490 yard par 4's. same with the par 3's...several are 200 yds. from the black tee...theres that 2 iron again... give yourselves a better variety and chance to use every club in your bag and it will be a more fun course to play.

In the later afternoon ,when the wind starts blowing stronger, the 16 th hole ,from the black tee,at 610 yards,Into the wind, plays like 715 yards..do you really want to play from the black tee on that hole??!

Its a very nice golf course. Afew holes could use some landscape tweaking that would add to the beauty, but I'm being picky. most of the course is good enough to make for a nice day of golf. Comparing it to other courses, for scenic beauty and course layout,Hiddenbrooke is somewhat better,in my view. stonetree is better, Eagle vines is about on a par with Rancho Solano.and Chardonnay.I would drive 40 miles to play there but not 60 miles. I would pay 30/40 dollars but not 60.

Played with the Raider legends 7/26, first time at this course. It was very nice to play on a course that just had 100 degree temps all week and you were able to stick a ball 4' from the pin. The whole course was in great shape except for the first hole which is under repair but playable.

Been playing here since it opened. Wonderful shape with some long par fours (Johnny Miller's fault). Drainage could be improved, some fairways stay wet long after the moist weather. My favorite local public course of Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties.

This course played very long from the blues. I was impressed with how the course consolidated the older part of Chardaney with the new holes. You have to play golf at this course to score well even with some wide fairways.

had played the purchased holes on the old chardonay course, but played the 'new' course with the added holes and the miller design as most miller designs were nice to look at and played tough...if ever in this area i would say a must play ...check it out

Overall a really excellent course with lots of challenging holes. There is a no cart on the course rule which must be changed to speed up and facilitate play. The new Miller holes are very interesting. The service is excellent and the new clubhouse-restaurant will be a welcome addition. This is a must play in Northern California.

This course is in near perfect condition. Some really beautiful holes, and a very interesting mix of the modern holes(the 10 puchased holes) and the 8 new holes which have a definite old fashioned feel(down to the replica bridge from the Old Course).
