Good maintenance continues at this course. Having cored the greens a few weeks ago, they are in extremely good shape with only a few dimples, good speed, holding and true. No alert should be visible within 7-10 days.
All other aspects in very good shape. Good drinks cart attendance for a Monday mid day, great F&B facilities and staff make it a destination course. Management has,in fact, a briefing sheet with the score card remarking on maintaning pace of play!!!! Great.

Teed off about noon on Oct 16. This is a very well maintained facility, and if you spray the ball, this is the course for you. Everything about this piece of property is massive. Huge, wide fairways, giant greens, and giant chipping/fringe areas around each green complex. Sometimes you'd park the cart near the green and have to walk about 40 yards just to reach the green from the cart. The course was in very good condition the day I played - just beware some soggy areas in the fairways and in front of the greens - pretty easy to fat a chip when it's a little soggy under your ball. The front 9 layout is pretty mundane; nothing really thrilling. But everything changes on the backside. The back is pretty darn good test of golf. You can spray it around, but there's some interesting elevation, the wind comes into play, and the greens are fairly contoured. It was fun playing the backside. This is a good facility and a fun place to play.

See my previous Aug 13./ Fairways cored early October and recovering nicely. Tee boxes a little tired but will get more attention later in October. Green coring to take place on 27 Oct and will try to complete in one day. Currently conditions extremely good! Good course all around.

Rancho Solano is in great shape right now...play it if you get the chance.

Got out earlier than my time slot and it was all good...from tee to the next tee the course is looking real good...of course there is the damage from unrepaired ball marks and people trying to shred the fairways, but those didn't cause any problems in the round today. Things like that aren't the staff's fault...just inconsiderate golfers who should know better. Don't know how many ball marks or fairway sod strikes I repaired today, but my Dad always taught me to fix my own mark and as many others as I had time to. Now if some of those clowns would grow up, it would be better all around for everyone.

RS is a good course and a fair test that can be enjoyed by all handicap levels.

This course is beautiful all year long, but a MUST SEE during early spring/late fall. Winding its way around the hills in Fairfield, Rancho Solano is a championship length course that offers a varied experience depending on time of year and tees played from.
Lots of elevation change, plays long, fairways and greens are plush, etc. One thing that I noticed is that the Greens get lightening fast during the summer, at times I thought I was putting on concrete! However, the fairways and rough play so well its well worth it.
I played this course twilight about three times a week last summer and the value is spectacular!
Overall, the course is not too difficult, most holes are long and open with large greens and good upkeep.

Tuesday 1 PM. Very windy, few people. Had the course to ourselves. Maintenance is outstanding. The greens are extremely true and hold well. Fairways are running well and they keep the rough fair for pace of play.
With the wind up, a tough enough track even off the whites. No gimme par 3s. The multi tiered greens were a lot of fun and a challenge. All around top marks and a good day. This is a good course to shakeout your game. Great staff too.

I normally don't post but I thought the rating of this course was deceiving enough to do so.
I should preface by explaining what type of golfer I am - I get our rarely but used to play avidly about 10 years ago. I'm about a 14. Most importatntly, when I go out golfing I am looking for an experience and a course with a lot of open space and minimal or now housing. For me, Rancho Solano was a 6. The reasons:

What I liked: Staff was friendly, we played on a weekday and the pace was pretty good and there was a decent wind, which made playing in the middle of the heat wave bearable. The greens especially and the course were well taken care of, wide open course so if you haven't played in a while it will be forgiving.

What I didn't like: By my standards, a lot of housing around the course. Even if there wasn't a house right adjacent to the hole, within driving distance is several hamlets of new development. I also found the layout, especially on the front, rather uninspiring. Some repitition in par 3 and 4 types - lots of 180-200 par 3s. Apart from the housing, what I liked lease was the size of the greens - enormous. I was 3 and even 4 putting regularly and if you are playing recreationally, that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

My two cents: Doesn't live up to the hype and moderately overpriced. Go somewhere else if you are a golfer similar to me.

Great course, city owned. Greens are huge speed was medium fast. Really a fun course but not that long. Shot makers course. Alot of sand, and water on about 6 or 7 holes. Was a little slow, behind a group of ladies and they were in no hurry but still enjoyed the round, Sister course a cross the freeway which is also alot of fun. If in area should check it out. Coupon for 52$ and lunch.

Worth the drive. Best golfer discipline for pace, weekdays with kind staff throughout.
Fun layout and always in great shape.
Only downside; no practice area. Not a biggy anyway.

If you couldn't play golf in N. CA today, with the weather as good as it was, you missed a great day to be out. Took on the fairways & greens at Rancho Solano on a day with little/no wind. RARE. I can't think of any courses that are in better shape than RS in every aspect at the moment...altho I didn't get in any sand today so can't quantify a rating there, but everything else, especially the greens, were in top-notch condition. The fairways were soggy in some places, not unexpected after the storms we had last weekend, but still very playable. A special thank you to the cart lady this day...the "order-from-your-cart" menu function wasn't working and this young lady took my order on the 9th tee, went back to the clubhouse to fill it, and brought it back out to me before we finished the hole. What service! And if you don't notice her smile, you need to have your eyes checked. The staff at RS are very good and even tho it's a 100+ mile round trip for me, it is always worth the drive.

The course conditions are much like most private CC's. The greens are the largest in California, fast and true. The wind is NOT that often to complain about. Delta / San Pablo afternoon breezes on holes #1-4 usually in the summer months. Great staff, clubhouse and new carts (1 yr). Best bargain in No Cal !! Especially if you're a Fairfield resident.

A day without wind at Rancho Solano is rare...but it wasn't too bad on the front nine today...however, it DID pick up later as the day went on. The course is in excellent shape for this time of year...the greens, while looking a little shaggy, held their line well and due to some morning watering, accepted approach shots well. Fairways and rough are also good and the grounds crew were working to keep everything as good as could be. Some tee areas were chewed up, but I think that was as much due to the short distance between the markers as anything else...some of them were no more than 6' apart and yeah, the turf will take a beating when that happens. The cart girl was unbelievable...she really put some miles on her cart today. Pace of play slowed some after about 4 holes, due to 4-somes, followed by 3-somes followed by 2-somes, but still made it around in somewhat over 4 hours. Good course conditions, good staff...it's a good course.

Rancho Solano is in very decent shape, but there are many divots in the fairways and the speed of the greens...wow...like putting on the hood of your car...they are VERY fast. People used to joke about the speed of the practice green, saying you didn't find conditions on the course like that...well, you did today. Greens are very firm and as RS has some of the largest greens around, you could find yourself with a putt from a different zip code if you played to the wrong side. A tough course if the wind is up, but it was calm today. Very friendly staff and a good, fair course to play.

I played here a month ago. heres what I found. This is a nice golf course in just enough of the right ways....enough scenic beauty, just challenging enough for a good golfer, almost but not too crowded (make sure there isnt a tournament in front of you), what else, twilight tee times are reasonable, not too much wind to hurt you.... alot to like about this golf course, even the houses around the course are not too many ,not everywhere, or so it seems, more unobtrusive than other housing community /golf complexes. Its a nice golf course. if you can get a discount tee time its worth it. the course conditions are good, greens are good, the pro shop staff is friendly and flexible. I missed my tee time and they said dont worry. it was nice. I would like to have this course all to myself.

Teed off just after noon on Jun 29. A friend of mine and I were on a NorCal roadtrip and we happened to stumble upon this course, and we are very glad we did! What a terrific course. It's a good, above average layout that becomes much more interesting when the wind kicks up. The course conditions were very, very good. We play a lot of top courses in SoCal, and we were very impressed with this place. It has a nice clubhouse, friendly staff, reasonable fees, and a quick pace of play due to a top notch GPS system that made the round so much more enjoyable for a couple of first-timers like us. Best thing about this facility though is that it has first class greens. They are fantastic. They are receptive, but roll true and fast and have a lot of subtle breaks that challenge your ability to find a line. I've played many good courses all over Calif, from Riviera to LA Country Club to Pasatiempo, and these greens compare very, very well. We only had two complaints - on one of the holes on the backside, some power lines come into play (there's nothing they can do about that), and the mats they use on the driving range. Those mats are worse than US Open rough! For some reason, they just grab your clubhead and stick to it. Like I said, minor. This is an excellent facility in an emerging area with a temperate climate and I highly recommend it.

The course is in great shape and well worth the $40 (Sr. rate - $45 for you kids under 60) that included GPS cart and choice of lunch or breakfast. The only areas noted were places where some people just couldn't be bothered to replace their divots or repair ball marks on the greens, but no real problems. Pro shop staff very courteous and accomodating.

Course was in great shape, but cost was about $60.00 without a discount. I probably wouldn't have played here if I didn't have a discount as it is a 1 hour and 20 minute drive from where I live.
