delreyjon - Marina Del rey
This course from the Sir Francise Drake Road is decieving, the Front nine seems benign almost flat but this course is anything but easy. rated at 130+ this is by far the toughest course i've yet played. Theres little forgiveness here for errent shots as I soon found out on the day we played. We were required to start on the back nine and to be honest the tenth tee is rather breathtaking but the fairways and greens were more than a bit under the weather so to speak. the 18th was especially treacherous as there is water to the left and a large hole in the center. i felt this course had such great potential if they had better upkeep. this could be a gorgeous challeging course but instead it was just a challeging course. A C+ rating in my book

San Geronimo is a solid test of golf in a lovely setting. I have always found the staff to be very pleasant. Just don't book a time during the rainy season. I played today and it was mud city. Really, really sloppy. Pro shop said condition was "pretty good." No, it wasn't. I recommend the course, but not until it dries out. Wait until late spring or early summer.

While the layout at San Geronimo is good and challenges every level of golfer, the attitude of a few staff detracts from an enjoyable round. Combine this with the pace of play of some of the most undisciplined golfers attending the course regularly, and one can spend close to 6 hours trying to negotiate the golf course. With recent price rises too, it makes San Geronimo slide down the list of my places to look for a game. There is better value around the Bay.

Played this course twice 8/3/07 and 8/4/07 (it's one of my in-laws favorites). The overall condition of the course was very disappointing. Still $70 to play. POP was almost 6 hours. On some of the greens the high spots and ridges had been scalped in the mowing. The cart paths are ancient blacktop that has never been repaired, which leads to most people not using them and lot of dead brown ground around the paths. If you're playing in Marin, I'd say Stonetree is a better challenge and Indian Valley is a better value.

The layout seems a bit tricked up with water hazards in random and unexpected places. The greens are tiny and don't hold shots well. The fairways were firm and fast...almost hardpan in some areas. I play to a 9 handicap.

In nice shape for the rainy season, worth playing especially with
online discount. Played in 4 hours on 3/13, hardly anyone there.

Played on Friday after Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised. The course was in excellent shape; better than I've ever seen it. This course really benefits from the end of the summer heat and a little moisture. Greens were in excellent shape and very fast! Nice to see them taking care of this course, because it's a great track when maintained.

Very nice layout. Challenging. Greens were not the greatest.

its 9/15/2006--greens punched a week earlier. Greens were playable but not yet fully recovered.

I went out yesterday to play SG for the first time and was totally taken with the course. I've heard and other posters have commented that there can be major backups at the course---not so yesterday as my 3some were basically left alone the entire round (don't you love when that happens?).

If you are in SF, the course is a must-try: I played from the tips and several holes are quite long and challenging (#1 handicap is a flat 450 par 4)---many of the approach shots on even some of the easier holes are either eleveated or narrow---very interesting holes on average and some cool undulating greens that would've been sweet if the greens were rolling a bit purer.

the course people i dealt with were all friendly.

This course was until a few months ago,my most often played course. I would get the online discount for about 18 bucks, and drive the 37 miles to get there. Here's what I found. It's a very nice golf course, friendly staff, they are casual about allowing you to play alone as a single(I like that because(lets face it) if there's nobody behind me I can drop a few balls and practice while I play. I like doing that. Aside from that, the course itself is very nice, the layout is challenging, wind is often a factor.the greens are in good condition but very tricky, undulating, even when they dont look it, there is rarely a straight putt.some approaches to the greens are very challenging. this is a tough course as the rating and slope indicates. I like the challenge. It takes a good golfer to score well on this course. the par 3's are very challenging. The par 5's are easy. there are several beautiful vistas along the course.
So what's wrong? why dont I play there much anymore?
Because it is always so crowded that you go there and wait for a 4-some in front of you.they wait for the 4-some in front of them. everywhere you look are 3-somes,4-somes,and Everyone is playing slow, and haphazardly. You might finish in 5 hours if you're lucky.
If you dont mind waiting 8 minutes between every shot,go there.
Or you can do the tricks I had to do,you look to find an open hole,Any open hole ,anywhere you can scurry to, just so you can have one or two holes you can play freely. (this course layout is good for scurrying, adjacent holes where you can criss cross all over the place.
Eventually,I would somehow manage to play about 18 holes, even if I had to play the same 4 holes over again, then skip a few others ,...but doing this ,like trying to negotiate rush hour traffic on the highway, got to be so tiresome for me, such a chore, just to try and play some golf, it takes away the tempo of the game, you're focusing on finding a way out of the next log jam on the next tee, that you lose the feel of your game and it becomes a drag trying to deal with this chore. If you ever play a nice course that is not crowded, and you look around and see you have the whole course to yourself, you know that nice feeling, not having to rush,...that's the nice feeling you want to have playing golf.
San Geronimo will never give you that feeling, nor will any course so crowded that you feel like youre stuck in a traffic jam.with nowhere to go.After dealing with this frustration the last 8 times ,I stopped playing there, and found nicer courses, some almost empty.I like that pace of play much better.

I played this course two weeks ago with an internet special of $55.00 including carts. It was not worth the price at $20.00. Rough was at least 3 inches high, there was standing water on every hole and in all the bunkers. On at least 6 or 7 of the holes it was so muddy on the fairways that you were walking ankle deep in mud and slush. Course does not drain well at all. Recommend you may try to play this course after 2 weeks of dry weather. If the course is dry it would probably be fun to play.

I play this course rarely, but when i do, it is in fantastic shape.

This is one of my favorite courses in the area. I typically play at or after noon. The greens are always firm and smooth, the fairways the same, if a little narrow.

I have not had one bad game here, although I do lose quite a few balls.

This is a good course to play with variety. The greens are in really good shape and the fairways are adequate.

While the rain have affected all the courses in NorCal, San Geronimo is particularly bogged down. The rough is mostly unmowed and when it is the grass clippings hide any stray shot that wasn't plugged in the fairway. The desk staff is unattentive with cursory, unpleasant service. If they address drainage issues and course maintenence, it could be a good track at the right price, the greens can be very good. As of now, this course is not worth $65 to walk a sodden course on the weekend as I would not play for $25 anytime.
