First round of another Norcal trip after driving up yesterday morning. Got here around 10:00 and the course was wide open. I think it was $25 with a cart. Most people seem to walk here even though it's very hilly, but the cart helped me make quick work of it. Played through one group and some maintenance workers along the way and finished quickly. The course was just in OK condition. Some tee boxes are astroturf and I think it's the kind designed to allow you to put a tee in, but I could never get it in very deep. Most time just hit off the deck. One had a rubber tee in it. Other grass tee boxes were a bit chewed up but adequate. Fairways mostly decent with a mix of grass. Rough a bit more rough and inconsistent, but it is helpful there is some deeper grass here because many fairways slope hard to one side or the other. Nice to have something to stop a ball from rolling too far down a hill. Bunkers had OK sand, but were not that well maintained. One maintenance worker seemed to be cleaning them up, though. Greens were soft and shaggy, very slow and bumpy. This course has some character with a nice setting through some redwoods and lots of hills. It is also a very, very quirky short 9-hole layout with a lot of criss-crossing and confusing routing. Being in a cart didn't help because the "cart paths" are kind of tangled and disconnected, so you really have to pay attention to the course map on the scorecard. Definitely some old school local charm here, but not a layout everyone will enjoy unless you are used to it and the conditions were not too inspiring.
