I played here on Friday twilight many times. It's a flat course and wind and firm green (and gee craps) are the major challenges. I have difficulty stopping the ball beyond 9 iron. The green is okay but slow. The fairway is so-so and fills up with gee craps and bare spots. Roughs are good. For $25 twilight, I can't complain and in general I have fun with this course.

played last thurday 26th,
the course has no coots, but the geese are thick, and the greens show it. while were on the greens too, they were horrible and bumpy. they were soft which was OK, but they were to soft. footprints and bumps everywhere. made putting a nightmare. this was the 1st time I have played here without the wind and it was just hot this time. the course plays a bit different without it too. as it was hot, I rented a cart, and there were 3 in our group. I was last man out and they charge you full rate for a cart 25.00... ouch. for locals they get a better rate and the twilight is good even if you don't live there. if it wasn't for the greens and geese I think this course could be a lot better. OH, on 18 when your walking to your tee shot. if its center or left side, beware. the driving range is there and there's no fence and we had 2 balls all most hit us, and there isn't any FORE, cause they don't know your there. the mgmt really needs to put up a large net to stop this or someone is going to get hit seriously. that it for this time....

thur 12th I played here in the afternoon, and the coots are gone...
there are a few geese still but the big coot population is gone...lol the course is in really good shape and I would have had more fun if the wind had not been blowing so hard. when the bay wind blows it makes this course play a lot harder. the staff here is great and gal in pro shop is super nice. the practice area is even better too. although the driving range hits into the pm sun and is hard to see your ball at times. the food and restaurant is great too. and the local rate and twilight rate is really good too. I heard they want to fill in the lakes on the course to stop the coots and birds. i think this is a bad ideal, just let dogs loose and scare them, they will learn. but overall this city muni course is a good one and if the wind isn't blowing its awsome.

Played this course on 8.5.07. This course was fun to play, but had lots of goose droppings all over the greens, etc. There were also squirrels & foxes that dug holes in the sand traps. The restaurant there was very good, it looks like a lot of people just go there the eat in the afternoon and sit on the outside terrace. I don't know if it's worth the price, especially if your a single riding as they charge you full cart rate for a single rider. Weekend rate of $54.00 plus $22.00 for single cart is on the high side for this course.

Played this course for the second time on 10/4. Greens were very bumpy and bare in some areas from aerating 1.5 wks ago. Also, they were a lot slower than last time I played here. Fairways were good, sand traps were good quality. Less geese/droppings than last time too. There is 1 temporary green where they turned a par 4 into a par 3 on the back nine. Overall, course is OK right now, not in as good condition as last time. It is still pretty good for the money.

Nice course, but people weren't kidding about the geese and their notorious droppings. Having said that, this affects mostly 3-4 holes and you get used to it. It's only grass they eat after all! Otherwise, the fairways were nicely groomed. Greens were mostly consistent but slower than I'm used to with a few bumpy ones. Walkable course with excellent green fee, especially twilight. Would definitely play here again.

joeyz34 - newport beach
CONS:
goose droppings littering the rough/tee boxes/rest of the course

40+ geese chilling on the 11th fairway/green

squirrels digging tons of holes around sand traps (there are signs warning you of holes from burrowing creatures though)

sunset = hard to see half your tee shots

PROS:
$21 twilight if someone in your party's a resident of mt view

nice breeze from the bay, quiet setting

Update to my last review when the winter had taken its toll on the greens. They are back in terrific shape, fairways too. A great challenging layout for a muni course. Very professional staff too.

The course was soggy with spots of casual water. This was expected as the area has been storming the whole week. The birds are definitely issues here, and I hope the course management team comes up with a better solution than a stuffed dog/wolf. Instead of scaring the birds, they seem to just circle around them, as if using it as target practice. Clamshells on some fairways and greens became annoying. This does have the makings of a good course. May give it a go again during dryer season to see it the conditions were a fluke.

The local bird population is slowly killing this course. After the revamp of the front nine a number of years ago it was in great shape, but constant attacks on the fairways by thousands of coots is steadily lowering the quality of this course. This could be a great course - but something needs to be done about those birds!!!

Tough winter took its toll on the greens. Some got damaged with mold growth. If the past is any indicator, they will fix them up very nicely once winter has passed.

The course was really soggy due to previous rains. There was lots of casual water. Bird poop can be a problem on this course, as it is all over the place, and sometimes on the greens (which can be an annoying way to miss a putt, but perhaps a good story). The greens were a little slow, but the course has a nice layout and is a good walk.

The course is challenging with a variety of obstacles and hazards. The course is well maintained with upgrades/repairs not impeding play. The practice greens are great with plenty of holes and undulating surface.

Great value and excellent condition especially for a public course. Very professional staff. Mornings have wet thick rough and the afternoons get very windy so the links design plays totally different. Excellent condition and fun which is why it is a very popular course.

Still a good $ value. Cartpaths only, so play is slow compared to usual. Fairways are getting lush due to the rain, and greens are good. 2 fairways are still sloggy.
