Played the blue tees (71.4/127/6525). Got a great mid-day internet deal of $22 to walk, played with Longtee400 @ 11:49. We waited a few shots on the front 9 playing behind a senior 4some, but got around in about 4H, 20M. The greens were firm and relatively fast. They putted true and were smooth, but were almost TOO firm. Both iron & chip shots rolled alot more than you would normally expect, hardly no ball marks anywhere. The fairways had been recently vericut and had top dressing on them, but were very playable. Nice to see a course putting that much work into their fairways, I'm sure they will go from very playable to great later in the summer. The tees were generally lush. We were playing after a men's club tournament, so they probably had higher than average play today, which could have accounted for several par 3's having a higher than average amount of unfixed divots. The first cut of rough is well maintained & is 2" - 3"... if you hit an errant shot, you hope the first cut catches your ball, because beyond the 10 yard or so 1st cut lies native grass that is anywhere from hardpan, to ankle deep, to knee deep, to waist deep in some places. We had a couple of lies in the native area where we could only advance the ball 20-40 yards with a wedge, one ball was completely unplayable & a couple of balls were lost in the higher stuff. Errant shots off the beaten path will be severely penalized here... Every facet of the course was in good condition today, but the best part of the course was their many sand traps. Nice sand and VERY well maintained. Customer service was a ++, except for shooting one of my worst rounds in years (my fault, not the course), a great experience.

Played the blues (71.4/127/6525) and walked in 4H in VERY windy conditions. Got a great internet rate of $23 to walk mid-day. Today the conditions reminded me of a British Open, you had to take advantage of the downwind holes because the holes that were playing into a 25-30 mph wind were playing like a bear.

The greens were just aerated 10/1, but are healing nicely and rolled better than you would expect overall, bumpy because of the aeration, firm and medium fast. The fairways were generally lush and played very firm with a decent amount of divot damage. The rough close to the fairway is lush and generally mowed down, not really punitive. What was knee deep rough off the fairway had been mowed down in most placed and is more like ankle deep now. the tees were well maintained, lush with moderate divot damage on the par 3's. The traps were in excellent condition, freshly raked with very fine sand.

Customer service today was a plus, as is the layout.

Course was pretty busy @ twilight. The back nine greens were just vericut, so they were bumpy. Front nine greens rolled great. Tees & Fairways were in good condition, a little dry, but generally lush. Rough is mowed down close to the fairways and they let it go native elsewhere, so there is knee deep stuff that will catch many shots that misses the fairway by 10+ yards. Sand traps were very well maintained. I like the layout and the greens here, for whatever reason, I can usually read these big, undulating greens well.

They constantly change the time and price of twilight, not it's $34 to ride twilight and twilight starts @ 4pm. They have alot of weekday tournaments here, so you should call ahead and make sure the course isn't closed for a tournament, as it was for the last three times I called to inquire about playing here.

Greens rolled very nice, the best they have of the 4 times I have played this course in the past month. Traps are well maintained and generally have nice sand. The rough close to the fairway is nicely manicured and not too long, however, nearly every hole has knee deep rough 10-15 yards off the fairway on one or both sides. Tees and fairways are lush, but both have a decent amount of divot damage. Nice layout, front nine is more wide open, back nine is the tighter, longer, more difficult nine.

The greens now completely healed from the spring aeration. They putted well and were medium fast, they looked faster than they actually were. Both the tees and fairways were generally in good shape, a few had divot damage areas that could use some maintenance. Sand traps were well maintained. The rough close to the fairway is fairly short, but get crooked more than 10 yards and very deep rough awaits that is either a lost ball or a sand wedge out back to the fairway. Their twilight is $29 and includes a cart, I teed off @ 340 and played 27 holes, the final 18 alone.

Front nine is more open, back nine tighter, nice combination of links style and traditional golf holes. The greens were medium/slow and still healing after recent aeration. Fairways/tees were in decent to good shape, traps well maintained. The rough is really grown up in many areas and is a lost ball if you miss in the wrong area. Customer service was a +, cart girl came by 3-4 times.

This course gets alot of play because it is challenging and a good value but it is also very well maintained and is in a very attractive setting. The staff is very friendly and the scheduled tee times were met. The cart girl even brought us cocktails from the bar because she didn't have any onboard. There is also a great view of Mt. Hood. The only negative was that the seed bottles on the carts were empty and there were some unfilled divots on the tees and fairways due to that. You will like this track.

First time here, played Sat. afternoon 4/14 in 4 1/2 H. Customer service was a +, from when I called to make the tee time, to when I paid, to the starter etc. Marshall & Cart girl were out regularly patrolling.

Really nice layout, reminds me of Monarch Dunes along the central CA coast. Kinda links style w/o being full fledged links style, most fairways lined with 30 to 100 ft. tall fir trees. Numerous lakes and streams that come into play. Several holes with yellow water hazards that could be almost as punitive as an OB because you could only move up a few yards for your next shot if you went in them. Also several holes with red staked fairways where there were creeks or marsh like land where the ball was likely gone if it went in there.

The greens rolled nice, medium fast. Fairways were lush. Rough was really lush, glad it was mowed down or it would be a killer here. Sand traps had nice sand and were well maintained. Only negative was that the tees had been recently aerated and probably sanded, they were a little thin.

Overall, excellent course that is only about 10 miles from my house, will definitely be back!

Stone Creek GC is a Peter Jacobson/Jim Hardy design in Oregon City, OR. It has become one of the top public facilities in the area based on its reasonable green fee ($36 - $42), great conditioning, top-notch practice facilities and playability. In addition, the course is hands-down the best course in the area to play in the wet, winter months. Kudos to modern drainage.

The front 9 is relatively flat with a few lakes that come into play on 2 holes. The layout is pretty straightforward, the greens are mostly elevated and in the medium-large size category with some gentle slopes. The fairways are pretty generous and there's lots of bunkers protecting most of the greens. Play aggressive on the front because the back will be a tougher test.

The back 9 has much more elevation change than the front and you'll need to be much more precise off the tee to score well. All the par 4s are demanding. 2 are long with well protected greens and 2 have blind tee shots down into a valley with the approach played steeply uphill to the green. The 12th hole is definitely one of the best holes in Oregon. It plays downhill from tee to green (so you can see the entire hole in front of you), framed beautifully by a hillside and trees down the right side of the landing area and a natural grassland hazard down the entire left hand side. The fairway narrows at the 150 yard mark so you can layup to the wider part of the fairway or play aggressive past the bottleneck to have a short iron into the green. The hillside on the right gives players a bailout area that can bounce the ball back into the fairway. The approach is played into a right-to-left sloping green protected by bunkers on the right and the hazard on the left. It's a tough, fair hole that epitomizes golf in Oregon.

The condition of the course is always superb, especially when you consider how much play the course gets year-round. Play can be slow at times due to a crowded course and a high number of tournaments/outings hosted at the course, but pace of play is certainly above average when compared to other public courses in the Portland area. The greens are always in good shape, but I'd say it's rarely in great shape. That might be due to the heavy traffic on the course and the speed stays in the medium range pretty much all year round. For the most part, they are normally pretty true.

Overall, Stone Creek is a regular part of my rotation and is my primary place to play in the Winter. The practice facility is excellent with a large grass range, pitching/bunker area and a large putting green. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The course is usually full with good reason. Call ahead, but you'll be happy with what you'll find when you're out there.
