The Ping i10 irons are designed to appeal to golfers who prefer the look of a smaller, blade-style club but still rely on the forgiveness of a cavity back. These clubs almost seem unfair.
It took me some time to get used to the look. I went from Zing 2s to these. That’s like going from a hockey stick to a butter knife. I love the look though. It looks more like a blade. First of all, you can’t evaluate these clubs hitting off a mat; you need to hit them off the grass. I take a divot when I hit and the first time I hit these off grass was incredible. The feeling at impact was like nothing I’ve ever felt before, much smoother than my Zings. And here’s the most impressive thing for me, even my miss-hits were straight towards the target. Another thing I like is that the ball stops on a dime. Almost every shot I hit was within a foot of where it landed. Personally I like that better than trying to judge spin or run-out. As far as trajectory goes, I know PING says these have a lower trajectory, but I didn’t notice any difference over my other clubs. As an experiment, I borrowed 6 irons of the Taylor Made R7 and the Callaway X20s to compare to the PING I 10. For me, there was no comparison. The R7s and the X20s looked big and clunky compared to the I10s and the bottom line is that I just flat out hit the PINGs much better and straighter. As far as distance goes, they may be a few yards shorter than my Zings, but who cares when you can hit them straight. Plus, I’ll probably hit them longer as I get them more dialed in. Bottom line: Great set of clubs! I couldn’t be happier. As satisfied as I am now, I think I’ll love them even more after I get about 10 more rounds under my belt. | ||||||||||||||
