Great for filming your swing
Friday April 15, 2011
I film my swing at the range. I have hundreds of videos dating back back a few years of the progression of my swing. I was using the Kodak Zi-8 but it had become almost unusable.

I purchase the Casio EX-FS10 for $100 brand new a week ago solely for the high speed video function. There are three settings, 210fps, 420fps, and 1000fps; each setting lowers the video size. The 210 setting is great. The only downside is the high speed function does not work well at night or inside (it doesn't capture enough light), but during the day it works fine.

I had been recording my swings in 60fps and the difference between 60fps and 210fps is incredible; there is almost no blur at 210fps.

There are a few other annoyances about the camera. First, you have to remove the battery to charge it (my kodak could charge via the built in USB cable). Second, when viewing a video the controls are pathetic, there are too many speed settings and navigating between them is not as easy as hitting a single button (you have to hit left or right several times to fast forward, rewind play, etc). Third, no audio during high speed video.

With all that said, I am used to it and prefer it over the Kodak Zi-8. I use the 10 sec record delay when capturing my swing. I can see the countdown light out of the corner of my eye so I know exactly when to swing. This way when I watch the video my swing starts right away.

The 1000fps mode has a very small resolution, not really worth using, though I have used it to see club and ball impact from a few inches away. You can really see the contact.

If you record your swing or want to start, this is a good camera for the price. Throw it on a tripod and you are set.
