Played yesterday (Sunday) at 930. First - customer service was outstanding. Without going into details there was a major screw up with the booking and the guy helped us out in a HUGE way. Major props.

Greens were better than expected - slow but smooth. Muni style fairways and didn't see too many brown spots. I was in only 1 bunker and seemed to be ok for sand.

Even though they allow fivesomes pace of play was ok. 4.5 hours.

Range seems to have dead balls. My friends and I all seemed to be hitting balls about 15 yards less than normal on range. Could be we are just getting older :-)

One final note - many reviews referred to this course as a "confidence builder" This phrase became the joke of the day because you still have to hit a lot of good shots to shoot low. That being said, it's almost impossible to lose a ball on this course.

Played yesterday twilight at 12:30. Didn't finish. Had 4 holes left. Really slow.

I attribute this to people not able to find their balls in the rough. The rough is getting ready for the Farmer's open and it's DEEP.

Greens are still pretty slow. I expect by the end of the month they should be pretty fast. Practice green is not indicative of the speed of the greens.

The fairways are now roped off. You can walk on them by going under the ropes.

Played Sunday at 940.

Not much to say other than what has been written recently. I adore this course. Everything is perfect except bunkers. Had a couple of green side bunker shot surprises where the club felt like it hit a garage floor underneath a half inch of sand resulting in a sand rocket whizzing by my friend's heads.

Note to self - dig feet into bunkers to gauge sand depth.

Bunkers are just a small pimple on this model's face.

Pace of play - 4.5 hours. Cart tart showed up multiple times. greens were quick.

Played yesterday twilight for 38 bucks (resident rate). Finished in 4.45 hours. Wish I could post pics, cause I always take sunset pics while playing Torrey twilight.

They are getting it primed for January's event. Fairways are immaculate. Just perfect. Greens are a bit sandy, bumpy and slow. Give it a few more weeks and they will be running great.

I managed to get a great tour of the bunkers. :-) Great sand as usual, but people to need to remember to rake a bit more. The sand is also so granular that a lot of shots can get plugged easily.

Rough has vice grip on your ball. It's really starting to grow out. If you play, a lot of times it's better to be short and on the fairway then long and in nasty rough.

I almost always shoot about 5 strokes higher on this course than my handicap.

It's a real challenge but love it.

One last thing, cart girl seemed to be on permanent break or maybe I just missed her. Best to load up with snacks and drinks yourself.

Course was cart path only.

Played 8am Thanksgiving Tournament 11/22

First tournament I've played in, and it was a twosome best ball for 55 bucks. The customer service was excellent, not sure what the guy's name was, but he was so very helpful and organized. We all got out on time (shotgun) 8am sharp and finished by 12:15 and had the prizes and scores tabulated by 12:45. I couldn't have asked for a better run tournament.

Now for the course - Greens were top notch, few divots but the fairways and rough were bad. Can't tell you how many dirt lies I had even on the fairway and around the greens.

Someone said in a previous review that its better than an average muni. I beg to differ. San Clemente Muni, Marine Memorial blow this muni out of the water.

If the fairways looked like the range this course would be awesome. The range had pristine grass and I could have hit off it all day long.

Bunkers seemed to have decent sand.

In summary, customer service was excellent but playing conditions were average at best.

Played yesterday (Tuesday) twilight for 24 bucks.

Torrey has risen from the dead. Three months ago it was horrific and now it's in great shape. Fairways are lush, greens have almost completely recovered (still a bit slow).
Rough is has nasty ever.

There's no reason to ever get a cart for this course, but especially now since it's cart path only and people use carts actually go slower running back and forth to their cart to change clubs based off yardages.

They bought new signs for each hole (yardage, hole #)...but it didn't help my game at all :-(

Just a perfect Torrey Pines day.

Sunday afternoon 11/18, 52 bucks. The course has seen better days. Greens are nice and quick, but the overall condition of the course leaves a lot to be desired for the green fee.

My playing partner and I agreed we wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks at primetime Sat morning for this course. Unfortunately, you won't get that price.

It typically plays pretty slow, although today we finished in 4 hours. The fairways were very dry, with a lot of grass missing in spots. Tee boxes were ugly.

Usually this course is groomed to perfect during winter, not sure if this is just part of the growing cycle, but d%mn , I was disappointed.

For 50 bucks it was ok, but not good value. Cart girl seemed to be on a permanent break.

Played yesterday for 50 bucks Sunday morning for the first time.

Really enjoyed it. Can't believe it's been open to the public for two years and i never played it.

Great location - nestled in the canyons with no housing tracks and just the sounds of nature. Greens were spongy and receptive with very few divots. Old trees line the course...like a previous reviewer mentioned its like an upscale muni or an aged wine. Some nice elevation changes. Back 9 was very windy.

Sand traps were good with an occasional trap under renovation. Finished in less than 4 hours. Cart girl was dependable.

43 bucks Monday morning. Definitely worth the green fee.

Greens were running fast. The practice putting green is a good representation of the speed.

Fairways were about fair/good. Some bare spots but it looks like they are in the process of regrowing. Saw Greenskeeper spreading fertilizer on the tee boxes.

Finished in 4 hours.

Tip - If you book on golfnow, remember to bring a printed out copy. One of the few courses that like to see a printed copy.

No sharks thrashing around on Hole 12 tee box (if you read the news you'll know what that means)

The Good: Place was empty. Amazing considering it was Sunday morning. Greens were in fine shape, divots were sparse. Perfect fall weather. Low round. Fine spicy Bloody Mary's in clubhouse.

The Bad: Albino tee boxes (trust me...never seen white grass before till today. Had the usual brown patches on fairways. Crows seemed to be laughing at us when everytime a bad shot was hit.

The Ugly: Hmmm...maybe the 1980s TV set above the bar.

Overall, great day out. Good value for the money!

Played last Sunday morning Nov 3rd before 7am. Sweet gal behind the counter took our 25 bucks (great deal) and told us we would need to play from the forward tees due to over seeding and aeration that occurred two weeks ago.

Thought it wouldn't be a big deal, but it was. The forward tees are ridiculously forward. All par 3s were under 120 yards. Par 4s were all reachable with irons\woods :-)

That being said, if you ever wanted to shoot a round under par - this was the course to do it.

Course has got potential to be a fun executive like Casta Del Sol, but when the tees are up like this, it's just plain silly (in fact we had a 58 yard par 3).

I'm guessing if a Pga pro played that course on the Sunday, he\she could have shot a -20 +

But at 25 dollars with cart, you can't complain too much. Greens were in decent condition (soft), and fairways were cart path only.

It had been 3 or so years since I've played this course. On the drive up Sunday morning my buddies reminded my that the last time we played it I walked off saying "I'll never play this course again" Guess I have short term memory :-)

The problems I had last time were - crappy fairways, random balls flying over your head on the first couple of holes (put on your helmet..cause they designed this course so you get pelted by hackers hitting into you), and a log jam on Hole 1.

Since it was Sunday morning, we were prepared for the worst. The guy in the clubhouse was hoot...very very friendly and accomodating. The men's club was teeing off so he offered to put us hole 10, but we declined for fear that when we got back to hole #1 it would be brutally log jammed.

So here's the skinny:

- We teed off roughly on time.
- First couple of holes didn't have too many errant balls coming at us...yay.
- Tee boxes were attrocious - little grass, just sand
- We played lift clean and place, and on few fairways there was no grass you could find to put your ball on :-- Really enjoy the design of this course (that's why brings me back). Multiple ops for easy eagle putts. Longish par 3s.
- The river was dry today, so no fear driving the ball.
- Round took 4.45 mins
- Greens were divot free and running great.

As much as bag on this place, I still find it an enjoyable experience. It's nice to add it to the rotation...maybe it's cause I'm golf crackhead and even the low grade crack is good enough on a Sunday :-)
