Played with the GK group on 3-20-22. Course is as great as always. Greens were fast and deceptive, bunkers in perfect condition. Over all still one of the best courses in So Cal. There was some dead spots on the 12th fairway (the only spots) but other than that great lies and conditions. The only negative would be that the practice area has always been another aspect of the course that excels. Nice chipping area and lots of practice greens. For the first time ever they had artificial turf to hit off on the driving range. Not my favorite surface to hit off and though you could sort of put a tee in it to hit driver it was unstable and difficult to set your tee. It looks like this is a permanent set up so a disappointing development in my mind but it will not stop me from playing this course! Truly a must play!

Played 3-16-22. It was a little windy so the challenge was up. Course is in great shape still. Greens were fast and smooth. Fairways lush and rough not too tough. As usual my one complaint would be that the fairway bunkers were full of rocks. Greenside bunkers were in good shape, soft sand well raked. Overall course is worth playing if you want a quick round and to work on your short game and enjoy some great greens.

Played 2-16-22. Got out early and was able to get around in just over 4 hours. Had a 4 some ahead of us but they let us play through on #10 and we flew around after that. Course is in pretty awful condition I'm afraid. Lots of dead spots and many areas with just tufts of grass. Much like I have found at Yucaipa but for twice the price. The tee boxes were the worst I have played in a number of years. I think maybe half had grass. Fairways were dry so rolled out well and were OK to hit off if you could avoid the clumpy sections. Bunkers were good with some rocks but nice consistency and coverage. Greens were the bet part though they were very fast and as I have experienced in the past it seems like they don't tamp down the green around the hole so it humps up at the edge and can deflect the ball away from the hole. The greens have a lot of undulation so double and triple breakers are not unusual but they are a fun challenge. At $40 I would say at least you can get your money's worth but at $60 I would not be inclined to return.

Played 1-19-22. A beautiful day for golf. Sunshine, light breeze and comfy temps. For some reason the Legends course is closed during the week and as a result had to play the Champions course. I enjoy the front 9 but find the back nine too quirky for my taste. The course is in real nice shape. No brown spots, receptive greens and the bunkers played very well. Often I have found the bunkers on these courses to be more like concrete than sand but not today. Although it is not soft fluffy sand it was a nice consistency. Tee boxes were a little chewed up but not terrible. Fairways were lush with little roll out and the rough varied from 2 inches to 4 on some holes. Definitely some of the nicest conditions I have played in a while.

Played 1-5-22. Got out for an early morning round. They were us at 9 with a shotgun start. Unfortunately with no marshals many groups just kept playing even after passing their starting holes. We started with wide open course with no one ahead since they started everyone with an open hole between groups. Caught up to a slow 2some with a 4some ahead of them and the rest of the round was plodding along waiting on every hole. Ridiculous when the course was mostly empty.
The course is in great shape. Winter conditions mean short rough and smooth hard fairways. Greens were excellent, smooth and quick and soft. Tee boxes were nice. If it wasn't for the terrible sand it could rank with some of the best conditions I have played in a while. I expect (sadly) to find pebbles in the bunkers but we encountered rocks in the sand. We would not play out of most of them since we did not want to risk damage to our clubs. We will be back and hope they can maintain the course so it plays as well all year!

Played 11-29-21. Started of bad when I went in to check in. Was waiting as another gentlemen was checking in for his group. While I was standing there another guy walked in went right up to the cashier and said he wanted to go around again. This was while the other fellow was finishing paying and I was waiting to check in. She let him step in to pay and said she could get him out at 12:45. We had a 12:09 tee time. He said he was going to go out with another guy who was standing at the pick up window for the snack shop. That guy said I have a 12:18 tee time. She looked and said there was already 4 in that slot and he said well you know I play fast. I had 2 eagles the first time around and I only want to play 9. She took his money and told him there was no starter today so go ahead. That fivesome went to the tee and took off well ahead of us and their tee time. We managed to tee off on time but of course with a fivesome and a foursome ahead it was a waiting game on every shot. At he turn another twosome appeared between us and the group ahead. They explained they had the 11:15 tee time but had stopped for lunch. We asked if we could just join up with them and his response was. "No, we are not very good so we will just play alone. This made the back 9 even slower.
As for the course there was a lot of ground under repair and even more mud spots all over. Since there has not been any rain for months it could only be from over watering . There were spots just off the fairway that you could not drive the cart through as the cart would get stuck it was so bad. The tee boxes were OK and most fairways were in good shape. The practice green was smooth and fast. The greens on the front were slow so after putting on the practice greens and getting a feel for the speed even the downhill putts stopped short. Then on the back they were more like the practice greens so you had to re-calibrate your putting all over again. They were very receptive on the other hand but that meant lots of ball marks on them and it seemed no one was repairing them. Bunkers on the front were decent and very playable. On the back they were full of rocks and pebbles to the extent we would not hit out of them for fear of club damage. We will not be returning any time soon which is a pity since its the closest full course to Big Bear.

Played for my birthday on Monday 9-20-21. Had an afternoon tee time of 12:20. Thought on a Monday afternoon things would be mellow and smooth. Not so. We had to wait on almost every tee while the group ahead teed off. Then of course wait till they hit their approach shots to tree off. Very frustrating.
Bunkers in good shape as were the tee boxes. Fairways and greens were not looking so good. We spoke with a marshal and he said they had borrowed a small bore puncher from another course and it had apparently brought a virus with it. Many dead patches in the fairways as well as the greens. He said they are pretty sure by the middle of October everything will be back to normal. Lets hope so!

Played 8-6-21. Got out for an afternoon round at $35. Course was busy but not too bad. Had a walking 3 some in front who finally let us pass on the 8th. After that it was clear sailing. Played in about 4 1/2 hours. Fairways are in very good shape. Greens were rolling true but a bit slower than I expect here. Tee boxes could use some work but most were OK. The sand was horrible! Hard as concrete. Even had multiple balls roll through and out and even bounce up in the air. Had the same issue the last time so at least I knew to play it like a chip shot rather than a sand shot! The big downer is there are more and more houses going in. It won't be long before every hole is surrounded by homes. There are even roads on the course that were not there before. Had to go through a couple tunnels under these new roads that made things much less aesthetic! Time will tell!

Got out to play the first round of the season 5-31-21. Course is in OK shape but it has only been open a week. Fairways were fuzzy and the greens are a bit slow. Sand looked good but was not in any so can't say how they played. Only saw one dead area with a few patches of what I would call ground under repair but overall not bad for this early with promise for the upcoming year!

Played 5-8-21. Had an 8:30 tee time but it was backed up and got off around 8:45. Round took 5 plus hours. Waiting on every tee box and often in the fairway. Course is coming along with mostly green fairways. Greens are healing from being punched and were very slow. Usually downhill putts can easily run by the hole. Today you could hit them solid and come up short. Also they were not breaking as the would normally. Sand is more dirt than sand but playable. There are 2 lake areas that are dry and have been for about 3 years. They have the smallest putting green I have ever seen. If there are 4 people warming up you pretty much have to work at 1 hole. I keep hoping this course will come back to it's potetial but there is still a long way to go!

Played 4-21-21. This course has been a favorite for a long time and still is. Even in 40 MPH winds it was still a joy to play! Greens were in great shape though a little slower than I would have liked. Bunkers were in great shape also. Fairways were perfect, not a brown spot to be seen. Rough likewise and not much longer than the fairway. I guess because of the wind it was not crowded and we only saw 1 other couple out there. Played at an easy pace and still were done in just over 4 hours. Tee boxes were great, even the par 3's were smooth and level. You are greeted as you walk up and they get your bag on the cart and welcome you back in with smiles and positive attitudes. Just a wonderful golf experience.

Played 4-11-21. Thought the course would be empty with the final round of the Masters on but not the case. It actually seemed overbooked. First 9 on Mesquite went slow but steady but moving on to Birch had 3 groups waiting on the tee. Pro shop said all courses were backed up. The tee boxes were OK but chewed up and beat up. For the first time the forward tees were in better shape than the rest. Course is very dry with brown patches here and there. The greens showed signs of being punched but were mostly healed. Many brown patches on the greens and they were on the slow side. Green side bunkers were in excellent shape but the ones in the fairway were 50/50 sand and rocks. The kind you know will damage your clubs to hit out of. Some holes had foam and some didn't. Not sure why. Some of the cups were rough around the edges and could repel your ball as it rolled up. Expected nice conditions with a mild and fairly wet winter. It does not bode well for how the course will be in the heat of summer!
