Played RC Fri 5/25 at 8:10 w/ a relative in from out of town and another two some. i played blacks, rest of group played whites. due to relative's request, we rode, but always a great deal for $62. greens were actually a bit slow for rustic as they had been fertilized earlier in week and thus grown out a bit, but they were still good. just not standard rustic. whole place wasn't as firm & fast as typical RC. most importantly, POP was solid, under 4.5 hours for sure. we rarely had to wait to hit and saw no major back ups. it's a long drive from hollywood area of LA, but nearly always worth it.

Played Eagle Glen for the first Time at high noon on Sat 5/18 on a GN hot deal time. had a GN gift card so the round cost me less than 30 bucks. played the tips along w/ a 3 some who played the blues. the pace of play was atrocious as they had a tourney w/ TTs from 8:10 to 10 am and it just got everything off of track. only thing worse than the pace of play was 1 of the 3 traps on the 13th hole, it was unplayable and embarrasing to see on a golf course. the layout itself is okay, but i could see how some people would find the course tricked up. luckily the guys i played w/ told me a couple lines to take off the tee. i also think the course played shorter than the yardage. greens picked up pace as day went on and sun came out more and more to dry them out. needless to say, this course is not worth the drive out from LA unless you're playing it super cheap and super early, which is an increasingly rare combination. back to pace of play, after a couple calls into the proshop from the course by yours truly, a marshall did come out there to say he's trying to move groups along but that the whole course was like out of position. the back 9 did move a touch quicker, but not quick enough. i understand part of this is when i teed off, but still not acceptable. lesson learned, play early! anyways, last thing on eagle glen, pick your tees not on handicap, but more on how far you hit the ball. if you're the rare non single digit who hits it 270+ off tee and uses 8 iron or less from 150, play the tips. if not, from my perspective, you'd be hitting good drives through the fairway into trouble too often.

took advantage of the overcast weather of saturday 5/12 and teed off just before a 1 PM tourney that was starting. the girl in the shop who doubled as the starter was super nice and told me when i called around 12:15 that i get there by 1, she'll let me out. went out solo walking and caught a 4 some of beginners on 1st green who let me through. great guys for letting me through, as i had to wait 10 mins on 1st tee for them to even get out of range. by 6th hole i joined a 3 some of push carters and that was my group. we waited a bit to hit on holes 8 through 13 or 14, before the 4 some of carts in front of us just disappeared. huge wait on 11 but i presume that's expected here as there were 3-4 groups on tee including ours when we arrived. greens were slow, fairways just decent. rough is rough so no issue there and the 1 trap i was in was fine. played from tips and thought layout was good but didnt live up to the hype given its george thomas / william bell bones. think rancho park is much better. however i know i stole one from the city so to speak to play wilson so quickly. felt walking fee of $45 was fair. easy course to walk and everything is right out in front of you as i had never played there before. i do think greens sped up as day went along, or some were just granier than others. would not be willing to play a 5+ hour round here, that is for sure.

went off around 7:45 am on 5/6. POP was good, was back in the parking lot before noon. i was only walker in 4 some and we were behind a 4 some of riders, so we waited on the occasional shot but nothing too egregious. first time seeing the course, thought it was good not great. biggest issue w/ the LA/socal area true munis are the fairways, need more GUR marked spots or just better conditions. also found teeboxes here to be a bit unlevel (#2 comes to mind) and some markers were aligned well left or right of fairway. that could have been on purpose, but i doubt an american golf course would do that. walking rate was very fair and greens were very puttable. all in all decent experience but if im playing that early in that area, walking los serranos is better value IMO.

played 5/5 right around 7 am. POP was fantastic, under 3.5 hours and 1/2 our group walked including myself. was a little mix up in shop when i arrived around 6:45 (i had my TT and a 7:20 ish TT booked and called day b4 and they told me they kept 7:20 and canceled the early one, but clearly someone screwed up) but i told the starter what happened, promptly teed off played 1 alone and then caught up to my group on 2 tee. conditions were solid but did notice a few fairways that should have been in better shape or marked as GUR in spots. all in, given course quality / challenge / POP / greens fee, was well worth it and very valuable.

played early afternoon of 5/2 on a gloomy day. showed up as a walking single around 3pm, maybe 3:30, and actually got all 18 in. started solo, went through another solo in a cart, joined a 3 some for front 9 before going through them to join another 3 some on 11th hole who were nice enough to let me hit up onto 11th green w/ them on it after i hollered to join. i was really trying hard to get all 18 in as i never played RP's back 9 before. nevertheless, really enjoyed the course at its price of $22. conditions were what i expected given the 4/17 aeration and that its 1 of the most played courses in the country. definitely the best of the LA city courses IMO, i can see why they held LA open there in the day. with 10 million bucks into the place, it'd blow rustic canyon away. a shame its so crowded w/ such notorious POP issues because if not i'd play it all the time. good test of golf from the back tees yet totally fair. loved how 15, 16 & 17 all have alternate greens.

played 4/28 off by 7:45 am. POP was okay for that hour, around 4.5 if i recall. waited a few too many times for $100 at that hour in the morning. oak quarry always fun and in great shape though wish i had played a bit better. felt value was just OK given POP issue for that time of day.

played 4/21/18 for first & likely only time as was in area. went off b4 8 am and decided to pass on free cart and walk it. easy course to walk which isnt what i expected but was great. greens in very good shape, bunkers not so much. bunker on #1 was fine and playable but the bunker on #18 greenside was like wet concrete and virtually unplayable. respectable layout, liked back 9 more than the front. good challenge from the tips. worth price of admission but wouldnt' go running back here.

played here for 1st time on 4/15/18 very early at 7:40. pace of play was respectable, done before 11:20, even behind a 5 some. enjoyed course, conditions what about what i expected for price. very easy to walk. didn't love tee shot off 18th hole but besides that the track is very much out in front of you and if played well, you can really score here.

played here 4/14/18 at right around 6 am, before a GC Am event. finished in less than 4 hours which was great. conditions spotty, greens super fast but also super inconsistent. some very firm, some soft. never knew how ball would release hitting into them. i think they cut & Rolled them too tight for the GC Am event and as a result, greens lost their hold a bit. like most muni's in the area, course should have more GUR areas in fairways as they aren't consistent enough

Sorry for super late post but played here early morning of tues 4/3/18. course in great shape POP was solid, under 4.5 hours for sure. greens very quick. this course remains one of the real gems in greater LA area. started on back 9 which was kind of nice to get the brutal holes out of the way early. looking forward to getting back here soon.

played here for first time 7/31/16 on a virtually windless day. showed up as a single right around 7 am, and was paired up and went off as a 2 some sometime b/t 7 and 715, no warm up, so took a breakfast ball off 1 tee. i'm a 5 handicap so played back tees, was paired up with an awesome gentleman around 60 who sucked it up and tipped it out with me. only paid 100, not 105 for the round. we flew around, i was back in the parking lot by 10:45, a 4 some was kind enough to let us through on the 4th or 5th hole, whatever the 1st par 3 was. as for the course, i was staying in newport beach for the weekend & did a ton of research about all the courses w/ in 40 mins of there, and sort of concluded that this was my best bang for my buck given that i wanted to play super early, be challenged, and not feel ripped off. and while the greens were a bit slow and my 3 putt of the 6th hole was solely attirbuted to having to putt through an area that shouldve been GIR, i felt like the greens fee of 100 was super fair here, especially given what tustin ranch, tijeras, pelican, strawberry farms & oak creek all charge, or what they charge given how conditions of changed. the course was very fun & playable, and given that lehman had a hand in designing, no wonder my power draw played well there all day. there was very little wind so it didn't exactly feel like a 73.8/133 on a p72 as i shot a 78 w/out even playing all that great. i did birdie the 1st par 5 on each 9, and shouldve had another on the 2nd one on the front. my only gripes are that the greens were a bit slow and that there couldve been a bit more variety in par 3 length. i hit hybrid on the 1st one and then 5i or 6i on the other 3. wouldve been nice to play a par 3 that was sub 150 in length. net net, from what i gather, this course provides really good value for the OC & not only would i play it again, but it's enjoyable and interesting enough that i could make it my home track if i had to, w/ solid value.
