Went to Barona Tuesday about noon and after signing up for the Classic Card went over to the course for twilight first using large uncrowded all grass range, chip area and practice green. Headed alone to first tee at 12:40 in nice GPS cart with plenty of provided water bottles, ice chest and ball/club washer. Was informed prior to paying course was under some back nine maintenance which was mainly one fairway area roped off GUR and the two par 3 tee boxes were all being reseeded but playable. Hoses with sprinklers were running in a couple fairways but we're not a hinder. Played 6231 silver tees having level neatly mown well covered boxes which looked the normal for others as well. Bermuda fairways were very nice down the center with drying occurring further out toward edges. Had no problems hitting from fairways and most were lush around greens. Not much rough and balls rolled good/bad distances. Found 4 greenside bunkers all with fine white sand easy to play out of. Grass was a little ragged along cart paths probably late season impacts. Greens were smooth and somewhat fast not lightning tho. Played second ball at times and afternoon breeze made last few holes long but easy 3 hour round only glimpses of a few others enjoying the day. Great cart guys pickup/drop off in lot and starter at counter informative and personable. Fun time recommend.

Used Golfnow for 9:30 round this morning before temperatures heated up which has made play a little slower than usual according to staff. Arrived 30 minutes early and had easy checkin told greens had been micro punched recently and I could go off by myself when ready. Hit a few range balls (plenty of leftovers) from mats and tried practice green which rolled fast and smoothly with barely noticeable punch marks. Headed out catching a member five some on 3rd who let me pass by to fourth tee and I was able to fit third hole back in after 16 from nearby the 17th tee box. One member came over as I finished 6 and they were heading to fifth tee introducing himself and thanking my courtesy in asking to pass. There were no others caught or behind me in 3 hours of playing but noticed a few heading out on front around noon.
Found the conditions to be very clean and manicured, tee boxes level and recently mown, fairways were neatly trimmed and easy to hit woods and irons from with all divots filled. Rough along fairways about 1" with some areas between trees a bit sparse and although bunkers were nice looking brownish sand I stayed out of them and cannot verify thickness or feel. Greens held and putted nicely having all marks repaired playable undulations and fast enough just not quite the 11-12 stimp they are known for. Terrain varies flat to hilly with several elevated tees, tree lined fairways had a few tight feeling spots, over one lake with another in play and creek laterally beside several holes. A couple house views on outside holes but only wild miss hits could reach them. Lots of work ongoing by maintenance crews and the main clubhouse facilities were being painted. Really enjoyed this round and plan to play again.

Stopped by Wednesday afternoon before scouting nearby Candlewood CC and played a quick nine. Two maintenance workers out ahead blowing leaves off greens and raking bunkers. Tee mats were large and of good quality to hit off keeping the boxes from being heavily worn as many par 3 courses are. Bent grass greens rolled smoothly at medium speed despite the multitude of pitch marks. Fixed about five on each hole that were nearest my putting lines. The greens were damp and easily marked. On the ninth green my shot stopped on lip short of hole in one. Didn't use range but even with 102 temp there were a few practicing. Everyone was very friendly and there were additional sand, chip and putt areas.

Left SLC on last leg of trip home pulled up to Conestoga around 10:30 and was ushered out before a tournament starting. Given a very reasonable rate and a hole card showing distances from each tee to traps and hazards which came in handy. Starter Sean took me out to 1st tee explained layout, hidden views, facilities and made sure I had plenty of water and ice. Two other singles were sent out to join me but both declined one wasn't ready and the other wanted to instruct his 12 year old grandsons play. Quickly off with pars on first three holes opened a gap behind and all clear ahead. Tee boxes flat with divots filled from recent play, fairways green and lush with only minimal browning along desert edges, didn't notice much rough, plenty white sand in bunkers I had easy out from one but the smooth greens seemed quite slow. Really had to whack a couple longer ones and firmly hit shorter putts went straight in! Might have been protection from heat or readying for aeration? As others stated front nine seemed funner than back but I was into a stronger breeze on most of the back nine making shots longer or moving them a bit offline. Very enjoyable round and a nice but hot 107 finish in about three hours. Afterward had a cold draft while chatting with the nice bartender Esteban. Headed home the next day after 10 rounds (a couple were 12 hole par 3s) over 16 days. Out of all those courses I had a love/hate relationship with Nicklaus' Red Ledges in Heber City as the best play, scenery and conditioning but extremely hard and unforgiving whether on the greens or leading up to. Quickest round was on an unexpectedly pleasing White Pine course in Ely, NV

On a side trip to Capital Reef stopped in the hills above the isolated farming/ranching community of Ferron, Utah. Beautiful course that winds up and down canyons and along the top of mesas somewhat reminiscent of Mesquite golf. Not overly long from any tees but forced carries, rock outcrops, waste areas, native brush and shear drops along with swirling breezes defend each hole. Was in good condition with some thin or browning in fairways due to heat but don't recall any problems while playing. Tees flat few divots on par 3s, heavy course grained sand in playable bunkers, short rough just enough to slow fairway runoffs and nice smooth med fast greens with only a few repaired pitch marks visible. One uphill par 4 was don't be long with only a 4' wide fringe at back of green rolling off into deep abyss (also a safety warning sign). Very scenic area with adjacent lake too low to provide flows for spectacular waterfall on signature hole. Still a small falls evident in back of the canyon. Quick weekday afternoon round with groups out ahead but never caught them in 2 3/4 hours. Friendly gal in clubhouse got me out fast, gave putting tips with course routing while serving food and beverages. Really wanted to play again but unfortunately returned to SLC a different way. Will remember this fun course for another trip in the future.

Met 92 year old dad in Salt Lake City and took in a popular local mountain course on a busy Friday morning. Got a rider cart for uncle 98 who no longer golfs but enjoys watching especially on a course he had three hole in ones on! Paired with two nice guys Toby and Frank who knew the course well and were fun playing partners. Day started warm with a mild breeze gaining a bit as day proceeded after 15 minute delayed start. Lake course (two 18s onsite) goes down canyon and back to clubhouse twice having uphill downhill into and with wind. Many gullies and undulations in nicely mown variable width fairways lined with heavy scrub brush, tall grasses and trees. Several forced carries over streams, lake or canyons distances varied by tee box. Shorter looking rough was thick and wire like with grain twists making it difficult to recover from and very tough around greens which were mostly elevated back to front, hard, smooth and fast. Hitting the ball straight and in front portion of green keeps this scenic course from being overly difficult but miss hits can run up scores quickly. We all ended up in bunkers with ample sand but their close proximity to the speedy greens made delicate outs necessary or shots would runoff green into the tricky rough. Including delayed start round took about 5 hours with short waits each shot gave a bit of time to look for balls or take in views. Both courses were stacked mid morning but during our delicious late lunch we noticed crowds had thinned out and early twilight looked fairly open. Lots of play in and around SLC with outdoor activities very popular. Dad and I played an extremely green tree lined Mick Riley 9 hole right intown a couple days prior that was a very enjoyable play.

Start of trip to Utah arrived at Coyote Springs 10:30 am Sunday 11th with 89 degree temp. Quick checkin by Doug very personable gave me early twilight rate and offered tips to a course I'd be playing later on this trip. Went to stretch and warm up on huge all grass range rolled a few on practice green same smooth 10 stimp as course. Lots of grass hoppers too.
Entire course was immaculate tees to green only saw another single let play through as I used yardage book and planned every shot taking my time on this very enjoyable course. In a couple white sand bunkers nice to play out of as was manageable rough which added an extra club to distance. Plenty of water available in tunnel crossings, beverage cart running, wet towels and desert trees shading cart path parking areas kept rising heat bearable. Course ops looked to be winding down upon my return to car at 2:30 in light breeze with 98 temp. Would love to play here again and highly recommend it.

Out at 6:30 this morning started overcast cleared to warming when finishing 9:50. Off as a single behind member twos and threes with minimal waiting and no push from following twosome. Watering at night made sprinkler areas wet, white tee boxes had divots but easily found good stance, sparse mixed grasses along fairway edges, not much rough just thick brush and ice plant, heavy sand in three greenside bunkers were easy out with medium speed smooth greens. Large greens fixed 3-5 marks each held shots and sure putted nice for early morning. Looked narrow but more room than appeared also used side slopes to advantage keeping drives in center of fairway. Used a 32 email discount but thought the normal 40 would still be a worthy fee. Will try another visit in the near future.

Treated son in law Monday morning at 9:22 paired with a younger twosome. Started off overcast then sun broke through on 6th with temperatures rising up to our 1:40 finish. Groups ahead and behind kept orderly pace only short waiting for putting out on par 3s. Clubhouse, starter, marshal and cart guys all friendly and helpful for first time visitors. 2 day tournament over the weekend probably contributed to several tee boxes (blue & white) many divots and repaired pitch marks on receptive greens. Did fix four or five marks on each green most likely from the groups ahead of us. Course was green some areas a bit wet early drying out on back nine. In three fluffy traps got out easy another was troublesome for my guest! Though marked up the greens putted smoothly a bit above medium fast speed. Fairways mostly good coverage a few thin areas were marked as GUR. Rough didn't hide ball or greatly hinder shots but our pairing partners made quite a few donations to the mature coastal sage environmental areas. Running waterfalls at 18th green and full lake added to the nice views throughout course. Enjoyable day but price will limit my play to special occasions.

First time playing the Classic on Wednesday at 10:22 paired with brothers Tom & David who were fun and knew the course well. Short wait on most shots with several fours and a five ahead finishing in 4 1/4 hours on a warm muggy day. A few tees a little worn and beat, the fairways were well covered and allowed rollout, rough good with some sparse areas, in two bunkers a greenside/fairway both nice fine sand and greens rolled smoothly medium fast. Stayed below hole to minimize downhill speed and afternoon breeze made several holes play an extra club or two. Crews out trimming edges, raking traps and cutting up a couple large downed trees. I think lake hole #16 the fairway had quite a few sanded areas where grass should have been but more visual than a hinder. After round lunch was very nice. Overall good conditions and a fun round.

2nd off 6:37 Monday morning on Donavan Daily special. Heavy maintenance and watering ongoing during quick round but workers waited before shots and greens were not overly wet. Followed a very fast walking member threesome who waved me up on ninth but I declined not wanting them chasing me through the back nine. Course conditions were very nice. Tee boxes, traps, fairways and greens well kept, smooth and green. Lakes a bit low but must be why everything is so lush. No other ball marks on greens just fixed my own and all traps looked freshly raked. Only in one greenside got up/down from damp heavy sand. Hit well, putted well, played well while throughly enjoying the scenery my only exception being with the layouts seemingly repetitiveness. Would recommend course and gladly play the excellent conditions again myself.

Took family out at 10:00 on busy 4th before daughters nearby softball tournament. Lots of golfers but well handled by staff & players alike keeping flow moving along at a 4 hour pace. The course is mostly flat with elevated tee boxes and greens with hilly surroundings. Spaced out trees divide holes and usually one nicely filled trap at each green. Entire layout is very green grass having smooth cut fairways and lots of very sticky 1"-2" rough providing much of the course defense. Greens sloped back to front fast but lightly touched downhill putts would stay on if hole was missed. Only had to fix our pitch marks as those ahead took care of theirs! Had a few lakes to enhance scenery but only widely errant shots might find. Holes mainly straight or doglegged and a bit repetitive feeling but good conditions and great mountain views made for a fun play.
