Played on Saturday, March 24. We also played on March 17 when the greens were still heavily sanded after the recent punching. Greens were surprisingly almost back to normal. I suspect they will be in really good shape from here on out.

6:30 am on Saturday, February 10. My group is a fivesome (3 riding, 2 walking). Group in front of us was a fivesome, all riding. We had to wait on every hole for them and so asked them to let us play through on the par 3 5th hole. They obliged and we ended up playing our round in 3.5 hours.

The golf course is in good condition. Tee boxes are good. Fairways were cut low and were running fast. Greens were firm, fast and true. Rough is spotty but okay.

Played this past Saturday, March 11. Tee'd off at 6:00 am and finished in less than 4 hours.

The course is in fantastic shape! The rough is lush after all of the rain. It's been cut but I am guessing that they have to take a little off the top each time.

The greens are beautiful! It's a shame that they will have to aerate this week. Skylinks and El Do and Lakewood will aerate at the same time which is unusual. They usually try to aerate at different times but made the decision to get it done all at once because of all the rain. Not only that but they will aerate the entire green instead of just a section at a time.

Played this past Saturday, February 11. Tee'd off at 6:15 am. As noted by a previous review, the course is soaked. However, I knew what to expect going in so I have no complaints about the condition.

Of all the Long Beach courses, Rec drains the best. There are lakes where there shouldn't be lakes at Skylinks and El Do is just a marsh. So, when Rec is in the condition it is in now, you know we have had just too much rain.

If you can keep it in the fairway and play lift, clean and place, you're golden. Greens are great. Veer off the fairway and good luck finding your ball. Hoping the staff can get our there early this week to mow what they can before the next showers. If it rains like it is supposed to, my group may just take a break. When you cannot keep it in the fairway, it just isn't much fun spending time searching for your ball and then trying to hack it out of that long rough.

5:56 tee time this past Saturday (8/20). Walked off 18 a little past 10:00. No complaints on pace of play.

El Do is in great shape. I know it's too much to ask, but I really wish the hackers would appreciate how great these greens are and fix their divots. These greens would be country club quality were it not for these hacks. As it were, greens were fast even that early in the morning.

Tee boxes, fairways, rough, sand traps are all in good shape. This course always kicks my arse but I am looking forward to coming back soon.

Okay. The greens got WORSE compared to last week. Soft, fluffy and LOTS of bare spots. I don't think it will take a whole lot to get them back to their normal, great condition. I won't be back for a while though.

We teed off at 5:30 with a couple of groups in front of us. Finished in less than 4 hours.

Played this past Saturday (July 30). 5:37 am tee time. Teed off at 5:40. Got around in 4 hours with 3 groups in front of us. Not bad at all.

Tee boxes are as per usual. You can find a flat spot. No complaints here.

Fairways are also as per usual. Same for the rough. No complaints.

Greens were fluffy, still, which caught me by surprise. However, they were medium fast even that early in the morning. Not very firm. I suspect they will be better this Saturday when we are supposed to tee it up again at 5:30 am.

Played Saturday, January 9. Teed off at 6:30 am. Walked off number 18 before 10:30 am.

We chose Rec over El Do and Skylinks because we knew that water from the recent rains would have little to no affect as Rec drains the best of these courses. Sure enough there was no standing water to be seen.

Greens are in fantastic shape and will only get better with all of this moisture. Fairways were okay. Tee boxes okay. Traps are really fluffy with plenty of sand.

Pace of play is rarely an issue when you are one of the first few groups off.

Played this past Saturday (Oct 31). Teed off at 6:30. Finished in less than 4 hours.

They had the tees all moved up. Made this short course play even shorter. Appears that they are trying to get the tee boxes right. Hope to see good results for these efforts soon.

Fairways were all okay. Greens are in pretty good shape after going through some issues and the recent aeration. Should be really good going forward.

If you find yourself teeing off past 8:00 am you WILL be in for a 5 hour round. The marshal here has no teeth. The marshal at Skylinks (early in the morning) will say something to slow groups. Not this marshal.

Tee off was at 5:45 am on Saturday, August 29. Finished at 9:45. Could have finished sooner if not for the group in front of us.

I wish someone would have written a review before I went out. Rec is working on several tee boxes on the back nine. 13, 14 and 18 were out of commission with temp tee boxes set up making this short course play even shorter.

Not sure how long this work will take or if they plan on working on the other tee boxes at some point. For now, my group will be avoiding Rec.

Played on Saturday, April 11. Tee time was 6:04 am. We teed off at 6:04 am as a fivesome. Walked off 18th green at 9:55 am. Less than 4 hour round. If you tee off later in the day, you WILL be out there 5+ hours just like ANY of the Long Beach courses.

I read the recent review from melnick who complained how water rationing had browned out the fairways and rough. melnick and all others should be aware that bermuda grass (which is what you find on the fairways and rough at Skylinks) is dormant during the winter and takes on a straw like appearance. It is the middle of April and still not warm enough for the bermuda to start greening up. melnick described hitting off hardpan. I did not see this at all. I think the more appropriate description would be "tight lies". It doesn't have to be hardpan to have your wedges bounce before striking the ball.

I also do not feel like the fairways are THAT close together. I suppose that later in the day on a Sunday there will be tons of players out there and so there will be balls everywhere. Especially on a Masters Sunday when most of the "real" golfers are at home watching the broadcast.

I play Skylinks quite often and almost always find the condition of the course to be pretty good. Currently, the greens are recovering from being punched (1/2 the green) a couple of weeks ago. They played pretty well this past Saturday although much slower than their usual quickness.

5:24 tee time on Saturday, May 31. One group ahead of us.

We were a fivesome (3 walkers, 2 riders). Four of us were on time and teed off at 5:24. Our 5th finally showed up but the marshal would not let him tee off. Drove him down the fairway and dropped him off. You would think that we would be upset about this but, no. We understand what so many do not: Tee off on time and keep up with the group ahead of you. It was our 5th's fault for not showing up on time.

The marshal warned us that the group behind us were locals and that we should probably let them play through at some point if we fell behind. Well, we finished the round in 3:50 (3 walkers, 2 riders). The locals behind us? Two holes behind us. We ended up 1.5 holes behind the group ahead of us but they were a foursome and were all riding. We tried our best. I was one of the walkers and, boy, did I get a work out trying to keep up!

I haven't played Los Verdes since all of the course changes. I have to say, the course is looking good! The tee boxes are fantastic (yes, spotty in some areas but fantastic for a course that gets the amount of play that it does). Fairways are okay and greens are fantastic.

As I have noted in other reviews, get out EARLY and you avoid the slow play that plagues ANY course (public) in the greater Los Angeles area. Unless you have the deep pockets to play Trump, that is.

Great overall experience. We finished so early that we had time to have breakfast in the coffee shop. I had french toast, eggs and bacon. It was all good as was the service. Granted, we had just missed a huge crowd. There was only one server so I am sure that service wasn't all that timely before we got there.
