Got back out to Monarch again today for a company event. Course was looking much better this time around compared to last month. Greens have also healed up really nice. They were running a little slower than expected but very minimal ball marks and wow did they place some tough pins today. I didn't notice some of the smaller shelf's on the greens last time until the pins were actually placed on them today. Tee's were mostly level but par 3's seemed to be a little more uneven. Fairways were striped and looking very good. Lush for the most part but still some thin areas and GUR's. Rough varied from long on the outskirts to cut down fairly short around the fairways and greens so not much challenge there. Sand didn't seem so well. We were playing a scramble so never had to hit out of one but upon retrieving a couple from the sand noticed they seemed a little firm. Service was top notch and the cart girl made a lot of rounds. I really like the layout here and there are a couple good risk reward holes. Plus of course the 3rd hole is one I wish I could play all day long both for the view and the many ways you can play it off the tee. I will be back some day but at a special rate because I just can't swing rack rates here.

Got to play Maderas for the first time Saturday. Tee'd off on time at 10:54 with Sixpez and itslikeimsayin for the amazing price of FREE! All the other reviews were pretty spot on. Check in was very easy, free range balls but range turf was heavily sanded. Course lacked in color a little on the front and seemed to green up on the back but all played very well. Greens still had signs of top dressing but the sand was very light and they still rolled smooth. Sand was all good and plentiful, a couple I was in were a little damp. Layout is fantastic. I really loved just about every hole, even the ones that beat me up. Course knowledge can really help you along here especially knowing the greens. Even though they give you the pin position sheet some shots into the green are blind and just able to see the flag. We never really had to wait for a shot and no one pushing behind made for a very relaxed round. Would love to come back some day but will wait for a great deal to come around.

Fun day at the Champions course today. Had been a few years since I have played that 18. Cost was $57 at 10:45. Got out on time and pace was really good through the front 9 and slowed down a bit on the back. Still finished just under 4:30. Aesthetically the course looked great but played a little worse than it looked. It wasn't bad but fairways were a little long but plenty lush. Rough was around 3-4 inches in most areas, sticky and a little patchy in varying length. Definitely grabbed the club face a little and ball sat down more times than not making for a decent challenge. Greens still had some signs of a top dressing but rolled pretty smooth. The Poa on the greens grow fast in the warm weather so speed was a little inconsistent. Fairway bunkers hard with a lot of pebbles, greenside had much more sand but even late in the day were damp, heavy and many with steep faces were intimidating and a challenge to get a good shot out of. Tee boxes were bad, par 3's really bad. Huge crowns and many uneven lies. Layout at these courses are really fun though. I haven't played enough to know where all the right spots are and even though you can manage a decent score knowing this course would be a definite plus for a few strokes off of your round. Plus the wind usually kicks up in the afternoon. I still have a unlimited all day pass here and am really looking forward to get back out there.

Played 4/8/14 with GKer Jerry64. Noticed that they space the tee times out perfect in 10 minute intervals which is a big plus. We tee'd off on time @ 10:20am and the group ahead was already putting but us going out as a twosome we ended up catching them by the next hole with them barely pulling away from the tee box when we finished the 1st hole. According to the starter they rarely ever send out only twosomes but the other two people canceled so he insisted we play a couple balls if we wanted to. Even though we had some waiting time on the front 9 the views made up for that and didn't bother me one bit. Back nine the marshal kept up on them and they started moving much faster. I believe we finished around the 4-1/2 hour mark but I was enjoying the course so much that pace didn't bug me one bit.

On to the course. Tee boxes were mostly level, I had a few where I had to move a little to get on more even ground. Fairways were a mix of lush and thin with some patch work and other GUR throughout the course. Rough was the same, pretty lush but quite a few thin areas right off the fairway and if you stray a little further off on some holes had some DEEP rough. There were a lot of bunkers which I found a few greenside and fairway. The fairway bunkers were a little on the firmer side so easy to hit out of and all the greenside bunkers except one were great and the one that was worse was just a little wet but still had plenty of sand. Greens had been punched a couple weeks before and some aeration holes are still visible but seem to be healing just fine. Most of the greens rolled pretty true for still recovering so I'm sure they will be amazing in another week or so. Greens were really undulating on a few holes and some really sucker pin placements. Luckily the greens weren't rolling super fast but I can imagine them being extremely tough if they were running any faster. I thought the layout was great with a good mixture of holes a different settings. Of course the signature 3rd hole was amazing. Cart girl came around plenty of times and you pass the snack shack twice during the round so getting enough food and drink is no issue here. Plus water bottles were in the cart cooler before the round and the marshal brought water bottles around during the round. Overall I had a great time and the weather was absolutely perfect.

Played 2/15/14 @ 11:32 am with GKer Wdement with a C4TT rate of $32. What a steal! The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Everything lush and green, greens rolling medium speed, sand nice, soft and plenty of it. I only got in one that was a little damp but they all looked great. Minimal ball marks and only had to fix a few all day. Coots and ducks were out in full force tearing up some of the edges around the water and some bombs left on the tee boxes but for how many there were they weren't leaving much where we were playing. Layout is always extremely enjoyable with a good mixture of holes. Get out and play Soboba now! I will be back soon.

Played here 12/15/13 @ 9:44am as a twosome. For some reason I thought the rate was going to be $38 but was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was only $27. Got out only a few minutes late due to two foursome's teeing off kind of slow and their pace from then on was exactly that. Waited on every shot but one foursome did let us play through by the 7th hole. We were able to quickly tee off on the hole after that and then it was back to waiting behind the other foursome. It was pretty slow going until about the 13th hole but then they sped it up to a decent pace. Overall round time was about 4-1/2 hours.

Course itself is not in very good shape nor do I think it ever is no matter the time of year. Rough and fairways are extremely inconsistent with a mixture of different grasses and plenty of dirt in the fairways and rough. Most of the dirt areas are where the wash winds through the course and most likely floods those areas during big storms. Bunkers were really hard with a tiny layer of hard "groomed" sand on top, kind of like a baseball field. Tee boxes uneven and thin. Greens were in pretty good shape and rolling at a decent speed however there were some small rocks from the bunkers and leaves from the tree's so you had to try to clean up your line on almost every putt. With all the condition issues I do still enjoy this layout. They give you a few doglegs, a few straight forward easy holes and all the holes are tree lined which can get you into plenty of trouble if you stray too far away from the fairway. We had great weather and for that rate of $27 I would say it was worth it but nothing I am rushing back to play.

Got to play Ike for the first time on Saturday as part of a company related event. I knew this place was a resort but wow were the facilities nice. Practice areas looked fantastic though I didn't have time to warm up and it did look like range was all mats. Course was in rough shape considering the price tag that comes along with this place. Tee's were really shaggy with few bare spots and many uneven tee boxes playing from the whites. Fairways were a little long as well but overall pretty lush minus some hard pan areas with little growth. Rough was really hit or miss though with a mixture of grasses at all different lengths and many bare areas. We played a scramble format so I can't really comment on the bunkers other than I had to retrieve my ball out of one and it felt like a good amount of sand was in there but a little firm underneath. Really hard to say without hitting a shot out of it. Greens rolled great and were tough! All pin placements were tucked away behind a bunker or up on a difficult tier. I really loved the layout. Good thing for the gps though because there are a few blind shots. It looks like I will have to return soon to check out the Babe course as well.

Played early Saturday 9/14 with Sixpez, itslikeimsayin and eaglee (great group of guys!). Keith and Mark summed it up well. Soggy early on, it was 103° when we left so that explains the need for extra water. Bunkers could have used a little more sand. Greens were good and it seemed if the ball hopped around at all it was due to sand from the bunkers. Tee boxes were really shaggy. Layout is solid. Overall still one of my favorite courses and with Keith's contest win playing for $15 was a dream deal.

I really hate that this course is so far from home because it is definitely one of my new favorites. This was our 2nd round of the day after River Ridge and we tee'd it up at about 12:50 for $39 booking on there website. Wind had started to pick up when we got there and maintained probably a steady 10-15 mph the whole time and it seemed like more holes were into the wind rather than downwind. Layout is really open with some really well placed bunkers and trees but until you know how to keep the ball down and learn your adjusted yardages I think the wind is what will eat up your score. The condition of the course was amazing and even better than I would have imagined. All the tee boxes were cut tight and perfectly level and usually I like how the different tees are separated by rough in well defined squares or ovals but the tee areas here were all cut together at the same height and it looked awesome. Fairways were some of the best I have played even though they were cut really tight they were still very lush. Rough was good around the greens and just off the fairways, minimal bare spots and maybe around 2-3" tall. Stray any farther than a few yards off the fairway then you will either be in dirt, under a tree or in the really tall grass. Bunkers all had good sand but varied with a couple being dry and fluffy and a couple being a little damp and heavy. Tall rough around the bunkers looked awesome but I would hate if I ever got caught in it. Greens were putting really smooth at medium speed with exception of a couple being pretty bumpy. It seemed there were a lot more ball marks and old dead ball mark areas on the back nine. Course knowledge would help for a few holes here but it is pretty straight forward. Pace was perfect considering how crowded the course looked when we got there and there were a ton of people on the range and practice green but we finished in just about 3:45 mins. It was definitely worth the 130 mile drive and hopefully I can make it back out here a couple times a year.

Played for the first time yesterday 8/5/13 using there birthday voucher and only paying $15 for the cart fee. We tee'd off at 7:30 and it was still a little foggy out and stayed overcast up until the back nine. Course was in great condition, fairways and rough all being lush, tee's level and bunkers great. As longball said greens have been slit and there weren't too many ball marks. Greens here are pretty tricky. None had a ton of break but I don't think I really had any straight putts all day even within 4 feet of the hole. Course knowledge would definitely help here too with positioning off the tee and where to put the ball on some of these greens. Overall layout was pretty fun and challenging but pretty easy if you hit fairways, I watched my playing partners really struggle so I can see if you aren't striking the ball well then this course can really beat you up. Somehow with not knowing the layout, the tricky greens and the really dense morning air, I managed to shoot my best round of the year. I would still like to go back now and try out the Vineyard course.

Played today 7/25/13 @ 3:45pm for $25 using there email mailing list rates. I didn't think the course could get much better last time I played there but it sure has, or at least the fairways and rough. Fairways were very lush. Dare I even say near Oak Quarry fairways! Rough keeps filling in more and more and was grown out a little longer than normal, maybe around 3". There were a couple bare areas in the rough that looked like someone had peeled out in some wet soft spots. Tee Boxes had just been sanded and are pretty thin but should fill back in pretty quick, plus they are all level. I was in one greenside bunker and one fairway bunker that both had really good sand in them. Too much though in the fairway bunker, enough to see the poof off the tee. If I had to complain about anything it would be tons of ball marks, so many people here just don't care. I would say maybe they don't know since there were so many but every pin has a smaller "Please fix ball marks" flag on them. Other than a few bumpy putts the greens were holding everything, even out of the rough from 180 out. Green speed was a little slower than normal but consistent. Some areas of the greens up around the collars had small bare spots, I'm not too sure what causes that but they kept the pin positions well away from those spots. Pace was nice at 4 hours with a couple groups in front of us and wind never picked up more than a club. If you are waiting to check this place out the time is now.

Played Friday twilight at 4pm for $40, which is an absolute steal for a course like this. I agree with pretty much everything dethman said in his review. No one grabbing the bags in the parking lot, greens were bumpy but I was fixing 3-5 ball marks on each hole but if there weren't any in my path they were pretty smooth with I would say medium speed. Ball sat down in the rough almost all day making for some tough shots. Normal afternoon wind was blowing but the worst of it is always on hole 7 teeing off straight into it and even the ball was wobbling around on the 7th green from the wind. Fairways are still probably the best I have ever played other than the very few thin burnt spots. Tee boxes were a little torn up and more uneven than I remember but finding a decent spot wasn't any trouble. Halfway house was closed so bring some extra drinks and snacks. Layout is amazing and the one plus side to the wind is it blows away some of the smog making for some fantastic views. I will be back as often as possible.
