Been holding off on posting an update until there was something to report or comment on

Played the home track twice this week. On Sunday the over growth from the seeding was running wild. The tee boxes and rough were way over grown with healthy green turf. Fast forward to Wednesday. The crews have been out making the first clippings on the overgrowth and the course is starting to take shape. Tee boxes have been framed and the rough is thick, but not real penalizing. It’s very dense but soft. The crews were everywhere yesterday. Mowing, watering and working on the green side bunkers. By this week end the course should be in absolute beautiful condition. I tried making a tee time but Friday, Saturday and Sunday are already pretty full.

It’s time to play The Rock!!

Played on Friday 10/27 at 10:20, a 3Sum playing from the whites.

Used a Under Par coupon for $45 that got us 18 holes, cart, warmup bucket and a free beverage, water or a soft drink. Good deal and the course was in very good condition. Tee boxes not overly beat up, the fairway had good coverage. The courses in the I.E. have been playing pretty good this season. With usual dormant turf leaving many brown area with Under Rpairs all over the place, but not this year. I guess last years rainfall really helped the golfing community. The rough was thick and long but the fairways were freshly cut and playing real well. The greens are soft and receptive. Good roll, divot marks being addressed, great job.

The course seems to be going through some upgrades. The check in has been relocated downstairs close to the cart barn. Looks very temporary but still stocked with the necessary equipment you'll need for your round. Ustomer service is cordial, the guy at the cart barn can be a little short, but the starter is a friendly chap.

POP was right at four hours with no real issues on any hole. Overall I'd give the course a B-. Good course and layout that is better than most in the area.

Played Friday 10/20 @ 0944. $44 POP 4.5 hrs

Hidden Valley has been going through some expansion to their pro shop and banquet rooms, thank you for not ignoring the golf course. I found the course to be in very very good condition. Practice facility, good, putting green, good.....so I guess you could say good start. Tee boxes, very good. Fairways, very good, many areas GUR. Which in it self is a good thing. At least the issues are being addressed. Greens, very good although I found holes 1-4 rather on the slow side at 5 they got quicker. Very few unrepaired divots. Thank you fellow players. The rough cut very short and not very penalizing. The starter, a real good guy. I always enjoy a good few words with the starter. Now for the bad. Bunkers! Why don't many courses actually put sand in them?? Dirt, hard packed. Not good.

There are many courses in the I.E. from which to choose. Hidden Valley is providing a good value on an enjoyable track at a very good rate.

4 Stars!!

Played 10/11 at 1025. Great weather.

I found the course to be in very good condition. A few tee boxes were closed, signs of getting needed repairs done. The tee boxes that were open I had no problem with. The course is a challenge. A few blind shots either hitting over a ridge in the fairway to an elevation change and a tucked away green. Speaking of elevation change. Everywhere! Club selection is very important. Fairways, rough and greens were just about where you'd exspect them to be at the end of summer. No real negative issues. The bunkers had enough sand fill to make them playable. The senior rate of $55 is a plus. Customer service gets a big high five. I got stuck in traffic, we called the course and they obliged me with a tee time which afforded me an extra 45 minutes to get there. That gave me time for some quick nutrition. Really came in handy. The round plus travel time from the I.E. was right at 10 hrs. POP was good at 4.25. Traffic is a real issue.

Been on the DL since GK La Costa, so I was totally ready to go out and get in some serious play. Hence I played the home track 3 times last week. From the time I arrived to the time I departed each day disappointment did not exsist in my vocabulary. I arrived in the parking lot and as I was gathering my phone and charging cable (carts have USB plugs) the baggage assist cart was already behind my car ready to take my bag to the cart area. Great start!

Walked up to the check in and either Curtis or Justin was there to accept my fees and set me up with a warm up buckets before hitting the course. Try the complimentary chocolate chip cookies. They go good with a cup of Starbucks. Since the management change rates have increased a few percent. I noticed when checking for tee times that Friday morning rates could be as much as $100. I have a senior membership which provides an excellent rates, especially for as much as I play there!!

Off to the warm up/practice area, which includes the driving range, chipping area and putting green all together where you will be greeted the starter, who keeps the flow of players on time up to tne first tee.

For late summer, early autumn conditions the course is in excellent condition. As always my only complaint is the lack of a well maintained bunker. They are pretty much non exsistent. I heard a couple of different reasons why they refuse to put a layer of sand in them with the one that makes the most sense is that the wind cleans them out too often and I guess they just settle to leave then hard pan or with some soft dirt to play out from. Tee boxes get and 8 except for the par 3s, those could use some attention. Fairways still green and provide a good surface to hit from. Never too hard to play from. The rough is long enough to penalize you, so keep it in the fairway. The greens are a little hit a miss right now. Most are very good with better than average roll but a few are showing some signs of wear. I'll bet they will be in very good shape after seasonal maintenance later this month. I heard the course will close for three weeks at the end of the month. So now is a good time to get a round in before the closure.

At the end if the round the cart guys are there to wipe down your clubs, bump them a couple of bucks. They do a good job. After your round the 19th hole is a great place for lunch. I suggest the Quarry Club sandwich with potatoe salad. Best sandwich I've had.

This is a review for non-resident players, because I'm sure the residents already know of this gem. Played on June 23, 17 at 0532 trying to beat the record heat wave. Forecast was 112*. At tee time it was 84* and when we finished it topped out at 96*. So it was totally doable.

Made my tee reservation via the course website paying the non-resident rate of $75. A little more than the better courses in the I.E. but so worth it. First the check in guy, friendly young man we made a couple of jokes and headed out to the carts. Was met by another friendly face who provided us with a free warm up bag of range balls and our cart assignment. After a few swings to loosen up it was time to head out to the course. We played as a two some and was paired up with a couple of singles with near equal playing ability. That's always good. I always get a little nervous getting paired with guys who play from tips.

The course is in near perfect condition. The tee boxes are level with good cover. The fairways were well groomed and freshly cut. A few areas with ground under repair and only a few brown spots throughout the entire track. The green semi firm, you could go for the pin. The greens were also rather big. I had a few long putts but according to my playing app still averaged 2 putts. They rolled very good and the players here seem to take care of their divots. Kudos to the regulars. The hazards are everywhere. Smartly placed bunkers with good fill of light brown sand, nicely raked and very playable. Water was in abundance on the course with about 8 holes where water was in play. Also I'd like to just mention the landscape in general. The course winds through a nice gated community with many palm trees throughout the course. Very nice scenery.

For all you non-residents this course should be on your play list when in the LV area, however my next trip will be planned when it's 20 degrees cooler!!

Played today under typical June Gloom conditions. 0608 tee time as a three some. No problem keeping a good steady pace. Finished in 4:10. It's been a couple of years since I've played here and I've played here twice over the past week. Under Par has coupons available for $33, that's a good deal anywhere. Last week I struggled, partly due to not keeping the ball in the fairway off the tee. There are many slopes here and keeping the shots online and in play is optimum. Today was different hitting 12 fairways and the ball position was much better. The tee boxes are in very good shape, fairways green and playable with good cover, and the greens soft and receptive. The two fairways I missed landed in some very thick rough. They were mowing today but the turf was long and thick. Bunkers seemed a little thin not bad in the fairway but difficult along the green side. All that being said it was a good round at a good rate.

Formally a member only club but has been transformed into a public course. It's an older course but don't let that discourage your opinion to play. We made a tee time on Golf Now and got a great "Hot Tee Time" rate. Arrived approx 45 minutes prior to our tee time and got a small warm up bucket ($4). It's a smaller range and hitting driver is restricted during play but that was really not an issue fir me. Hit about 40 balls using my mid and short irons before moving over to the putting green. The practice area was a good indication of what to expect on the course. Quick, firm greens with good roll. Needed a little help finding the first tee box. The holes are not identified anywhere are the course. So just follow the cart path and you'll do just fine. Tee boxes were in excellent condition. This course is quite a bit different from the courses I normally play. Situated in the center of a housing tract. The course does not wind through the neighborhood but it's just simply situated on an entire city block. It's compact but still roomy enough to play. The fairways, greens, hazards and landscape are all in excellent condition. No cart girl on a Thursday. I don't know if one is even employed there. We got off on time and finished in exactly 4 hours. No waiting on the fairway or at a tee box. We didn't sample the 19th green. So no comment there. In conclusion, staff, carts and play were top shelf. I'll be returning to play again and I'm hoping for a similar experience. Give it a try. I'm guessing you will be pleasantly surprised.

Played Morongo today, first off the tee at 0650. Let me start by stating this is the best I've seen the course in a long time. Looking to play a course that I haven't played in awhile and saw the Under Par Coupon for $41 and jumped right on it. This used to be a fave track of mine a couple of years ago but the conditions went downhill and I pretty much gave up on them. Whatever they did to improve the course conditions really paid off. Starting off with the fellow at check in to the guy who was assigning carts to the starter everything was great. Then you got on the first tee and WOW! Tee boxes, great. Fairway, great. Rough was tough and thick and greens was firm and fast through the entire course. No disappointments at all. Oh and let's not forget about the bunkers. We played early so the sand was wet and heavy, but still very playable with a good fill. I came home and bought 4 more coupons and looking forward to playing again maybe a little later in the morning with some sunshine and warmer days. Check it out fellow hackers. I think you'll enjoy it!

Have played Sierra Lakes twice over the past two weeks, taking advantage of very good course conditions and reduced rates while they did course maintenance. As of Thursday 3/23 the greens have recovered about 90% with only the outside edge of the greens showing minor punch marks. The fairways have been cut down and remain in great condition with favorable roll out from the tee. The rough is short and playable but still provides a degree of difficulty when missing the overly generous fairways. No problem with the tee boxes but they did move us up on one day to compensate for the windy conditions. Don't recall seeing the cart girl, but we did play on weekdays and the low player activity could have contributed to that. The starter is a friendly fellow. Always a good little chit chat with him before you start your round.

In conclusion, scoring is optimum in Fontana. Good place for a friendly money game.

This is going to be a two part review.
Haven't played the home track in a few weeks, I was on the DL, so I was so ready to get back in the swing. I've played here twice over the last week. The conditions were very favorable. It's winter golf so don't expect the pristine conditions like in the spring and summer. The fairways are dormant but still very playable, good roll out from the tee. The greens are in the best shape that I've seen over the past few months, looks like a lot of attention has been given to them lately. They were rolling very true and a little on the fast side. No excessive unrepaired divot marks and the area around all the greens are in excellent shape. Makes for great conditions for all your chips and approach shots. The tee boxes are getting some much deserved attention, first time out the tips and forward boxes were getting new seed and the second outing the blues and bites were getting theirs. The attention they are getting really shows. Pace of play can be great some days and then others it seems like you're waiting forever. Marshals are not to be seen on my preferred day of play, Monday's. First time out I had a good round at three hours and forty five minutes, and the second day out I finished 15 holes before walking off at just over 4 hours. I play here often, probably 15-20 times a year and when I made me tee reservation I noticed the course name had changed. So it looks, like a ownership or managerial change was in the works. One other note, I had a little bit of an attitude from the person at the check in, customer service here to to be be excellent. And the restaurant has always been a good place for lunch or a refreshment after your round. I suggest the Oak Quarry Club with chips and the spices dip.

The second part of this review is a product review. Recently I was the lucky reciecpient of a sponser give away from GK that included a dozen Srixon Z Star balls. From the very first tee I was hooked. I've been using Nike RZN Red for about a year now, IMHO a good ball at a fair price. The first thing I noticed was the carry of the ball. I was probably getting 10-15 yards further off the tee and on my approach shots I found myself clubbing down on the back nine. I was a hard sell that the ball we use make a difference in our game. I'm not a pro so I felt I didn't need to use Pro Vs. Everything about this ball changed my mind, from the tee to the green, this ball made a difference, and just to satisfy my own curiously on the second day out I went back to my Nike's. Trust me there is a difference. So I will probably hand the 4 dozen balls I have left in my closet to my son and my next purchase will be SRIXON!!

Played on Sat 4/13 at 1230 and contrary to previous posts I felt the course was very well maintained and playable. There were a few areas that could have used a little attention, but overall a very good round of golf. We made tee time reservation via the internet and received a discount rate of $25 which included a cart and GPS. We played as a foursome and finished in just over 4 hours which included a quick stop at the break for refreshments. It's not Oak Quarry but it beats the hell out of most of the areas shorter courses. I will certainly return.
