Played Sunday, mid-morning with a PoP of 4:45 so there was some waiting involved. Fairways coming around, trying to green up still had very thin lies with very little rough ... sometimes better to be in the rough. Firm and fast, even the greens which were true and mostly great to putt on, just not holding very well other than well struck wedges. Bunkers thin and not player friendly at all.

Always enjoyed the layout, canyon golf and a few parallel fairways where you could cut loose. Recommended with a deal.

Played Big Rec this AM with a 4:20 PoP so there was some waiting but not too bad. Much drier than my idol Weber's review from a couple week ago. Fairways were still shaggy and they're punching them, so large plugs were everywhere (but only on the back nine). Some real shaky lies when you're playing it down. Rough extra long, finding balls took some work.

Greens were firm, flowering Poa and they do need aeration (scheduled in a week or so, thanks Johnny) as even a delicate chip shot would run out considerably. And, for some unknown reason, almost every other hole had the pin from 5-8 feet from the edges, mostly in front (red flag). Made approach shots super difficult. Tough day of golf.

Still, a nice change as I've not played here in a few years. Old school layout with mature trees and no H2O 'penalty areas', rolling hills and a parkland style once you get away from street traffic after #6.

Pricey for a muni: $43 weekday walking rate (non-res). But good to play it once in a blue moon. Suggest to wait until April when maintenance is over.

Played the Ike last weekend (3/9) in a Men's Club event, PoP was around 4:45 which is fantastic all things considered. Overseeded fairways means very full, green, and nearly immaculate conditions ... some divots (mostly filled) in landing areas to navigate. Rough penal to say the least as you really need to spot your ball if you leave the short stuff or you'll lose it.

Greens were cut and rolled true. Bunkers excellent with a few rocks to pick out, very playable.

Good time to come and play the Ike as it was meant to be played. Pricey, but recommended.

Add: my playing partner came within inches of an Albatross on #1. We thought it was going in for sure ... nice to watch.

First time here at Alhambra playing the GK Four-ball with kviser, golferic420 & hammer74, fun times. Course is very short, great for juniors/seniors, with lots of 300 yd-ish par 4's and almost reachable (for me) par 5's with a flat front and semi-hilly back. Mature trees line the fairways so you can get in trouble if you are not straight off the tee. Slope only 115 from the Blues at 5400 yds, par 71, course managed by the city of Alhambra.

Greens were the highlight, mostly flat or gentle breaks, rolling medium speed and true with only a few fresh, unrepaired marks. Fairways in decent winter shape, rough could be thick but we played L,C, & P due to the soft, wet areas which was a good idea due to the many 'mud' balls we cleaned. Bunkers a bit firm, not maintained, mostly due to heavy rain the previous day. We played at our own pace, just under 4 hrs.

I'd play here again for sure if I was looking for a softer course to play with a junior, or just wanted to post an ego score. We paid $36 walking rate on a Sunday at 12:26. Still recommended for a short 'regulation' course.

Lakewood Friday morning, 5-some but things weren't all that bad cuz it was a polite group of good guys. PoP around 4:15 with no waiting ... just wasn't crowded early. Surprisingly dry as all the standing water has evaporated and fairways/greens have firmed up considerably. Only well struck irons would check up and chip shots would run 5-10' past the hole which took a while to get used to. Bunkers have good sand and were not maintained today ... footprints from inconsiderate golfers were a disappointment, for sure.

Marshal out enforcing today, good to see.

Scheduled to aerate the first week of April but should be sooner. Good, inexpensive golf and a test from the tips.

At LS South on Sunday, 2/24, for a Match Play event. After all the rain this course was bogged down and CPO but they let carts use the 90* rule today, still alot of soft earth and mud balls so we played LC&P. Back nine fairways were particularly scrappy and uneven, so good call by our 'committee'. Greens were great Poa rolling at medium speed. Rough needs a mow, had to search many times and 3 minutes can be really quick when your in ankle high turf.

Bones intact and would be great to see the fairways fill out in Spring to bring this par 74 track back into the limelight it once was prior to the drought. Great staff, friendly, good food & bar area. We'll be back.

Made a single early tee time at Coyote Hills Friday morning, paired up with another single behind a four ball so PoP was 4hrs ... we just took our time; well, I took my time, he was a ball hawk. Anyway, the course is all Bermuda in dormancy but still had good lies as long as you stayed in the fairway as it gets that matted, uneven look in the rough so some balls will settle.

Greens looked a bit raggy but rolled mostly true and rather quick I might add. Firm, so many balls would release but speed was not consistent so it was hard to judge where to aim.

In a couple GS bunkers, good sand, light texture, easy to play from.

Great senior special M-F still intact: $58 gets golf w/cart (touch screen GPS), range balls, lunch w/drink. Best deal in the OC or So Cal for that matter. Recommended, even with some short, quirky holes to deal with. Gorgeous water features on the back side, too.

Early Fri. round at Hondo, got around in under 4 hrs. with some minor waiting on the front side paying a $45 non-res walking green fee that included a bucket of range balls. 24 hrgolf's previous review is 100% accurate: Bermuda dormancy in the fairways, very matted, too. We played it LC&P. Rough mostly green, mostly full with some bare patches in the shade of the Pine trees. Today the greens were a mixed bag, some uneven and the speed unpredictable while others were the usual Hondo quality Poa, semi-quick and rolling true. In a few GS bunkers which had very good sand and depth which led to easy play.

I might have to wait to come back due to the dormancy issues but who knows. It's a fun, walkable track and I always get hooked up with friendly folk. Still recommended.

Played here during the Holiday, the Ike is still in very good condition and should be that way well thru Spring. Pricey but there is still Mega-Monday and some GolfNow deals available.

Frost delay on the Destroyer Friday, 12/29, but the starter was doing a great job getting our two-ball out on time with some shuffling, really appreciated that. PoP around 4.5 hrs. Course conditions are usually very consistent which is why I play here semi-often, plus was able to get a good deal online, $36 walking. Customer service always very good.

Recent review by NutNButCup still holds true. Challenging layout from the Blues which were back today with enough wind to keep you focused. Greens mostly semi-quick with some bumps to contend with, nothing worth worrying about. Fairways could use a mow but had good lies all day. Bunkers maintained, good sand some thin areas.

All in all, a good day on the Destroyer. Recommended.

Played the Babe Friday in a friendly Guest Day tourney, $85 includes balls, golf, and buffet ... good deal. So, how about course conditions, you ask? Well, not good. With no overseed in fairways you have the original Hybrid Bermuda which is thin and bare, mixed with other unknown grasses ... looks like a poorly run muni ... YIKES! This is an experiment the greenskeeper hopes will allow the Bermuda to come in full next Spring and not be overwhelmed by the winter Rye. Time will tell, but for now we played it LC&P.

Otherwise, the course is in decent shape: greens are the highlight rolling quick and true. Rough has good cover with thin areas in the shade. Some bunkers are rocky and thin, I was in a few, and some have very good sand ... hit or miss there.

We will see what happens in the Spring ... for now the Babe will be a tough sell unlike the Ike which is in great winter shape due to the overseed. Carts in fairways are okay on the Ike, CPO on the Babe which should change soon.

On to Lakewood on a Friday morning, walking rate of $30 a pretty good deal as roarksown1 mentioned in his review last month. We played it LC&P and it was CPO for the riders which really slowed down some of the seniors who like to play early (but should not). The slow 5-some ahead of us allowed us to play thru on #12 so that was nice of them. Front was 2.5 hrs PoP and the back was 1:45.

Lots of standing water in the bunkers which was getting pumped out and some puddles, but overall the conditions were green and full in the fairways ... the rough is always hit or miss. Greens were cut so they rolled nice and true (mostly) and were uber-soft due to the recent rain.

No frills golf at a decent price. Flat, walkable course that plays long when it's wet. Recommended.
