Showed up 12/12 @ 10:00 ish as a single and was sent down to the 1st tee to join a twosome in the on-deck position. Once again, great customer service.
I've been playing Goose Creek for a while now, and have never seen it in such good shape. Tee boxes great, fairways perfect, rough was manageable (maybe 2"), and the greens were firm enough to stop a 7 iron and under within a couple of feet and were rolling fast/quick. The greens were rolling about as pure as I've ever seen them and with a side/downhill 3'er that you have to give the hole away for par, gives you a lot of confidence that you're going to make it.
They've been doing a lot of work to The Goose lately. They've taken out a lot of bamboo around the tee boxes and made a new tee box on #3 (not open yet) and #17 which by my GPS watch was playing 572 yards (and could probably go back another 25-30 yards) from the blue tee boxes.
POP was a little slow at 4.5 hours, but considering playing in shorts in the middle of December with no wind at one of the best public golf courses in Southern California, the delay wasn't even noticed.
BTW, the course is very walk-able, but be sure to bring your push/pull cart as they don't rent them there.
Thanks again to Goose Creek, the staff, and my playing partners, for another outstanding day of golf. Get out and play The Goose you wont regret it.

Took advantage of a Donovan Daily special on 7/31/17 and hit first tee at approximately 11:00 as a single (Blues/6708/72.6/131). I really enjoy the layout at Western Hills as no two holes are the same. They have dog leg right & left, uphill & downhill approaches to greens, and some fairways are tighter than others. I also like the fact that there aren't any houses right on the course.
It was maintenance day Monday and there were a ton of workers buzzing around, but all were aware and would stop what they were doing as you hit you're shot. I also liked the fact that the course did not seem to "stuffy" as with most CC's. I even had 3 groups of walking members wave me through.
Course conditions were pretty good overall even considering the heat that always takes its toll this time of year. As others have mentioned, the greens are truly the highlight at Western Hills, I'd even go out on a limb and say top one or two in the IE. They held all shots even a hybrid that rolled out approx 5'-6' and are quick (maybe 11-12 on the stimp). There is some course knowledge that comes into play regarding reading the greens.
They offer free range balls, real nice practice putting green, and a nice chipping area that even has a couple sand traps.
If you ever have the chance to play Western Hills CC, jump on it as you wont be disappointed.

Played 5/15/17 in the SCGA outing with a 9:00 am shotgun start. Prior to the round, noticed that sixpez was playing and caught up with him in his pursuit to reach 1000 different courses.
As I completely agree with his report on course conditions, I'll try to mention a few things he didn't. First of all, the practice facility is like none I have ever seen before. I was a little disappointed to be hitting off a 3' band of Astroturf to warm up, but with that many people all going off at the same time, I understand. The targets to shoot at were actual greens that IMO were better than most greens I've played recently. The practice sand and chipping area were spectacular and a mirror image of what was on the course.
Our caddie Greg was brought out to help from BelAire CC and was on his game. He was filling divots, cleaning clubs, cleaning balls, racking sand traps (I wasn't as lucky as sixpez), making sure we had cold water (which there was plenty of cold bottled water stationed all over the course), oh and including course knowledge.
I did not see one hint of brown or browning grass and Greg mentioned that IF that was the case, they just take up the sod and replace it with new sod. Did I mention the houses? Greg was sure to point out Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn's and the owner of Starbucks home's which were nothing short of breathtaking.
The course was a little tricky for me especially on the par 5's. You'd hit a great drive and have 210-230 to get home in two or have a 130-160 layup. I of course would go for it as I will most likely never play it again and was burnt every time.
The entire staff was amazing from the guard at the gate, the valet guys (even loaded my bag in the back seat of my truck after the round), to all the caddies helping everybody get their stuff loaded and underway.
I've been looking forward to this for the last 3-4 months like a kid going to Disneyland the first time, and was completely blown away. Thanks to the members of Bighorn and the SCGA for allowing us to play your course

Finally got to play this gem on 1/24/17 @ 8:40 am. Let me begin by saying, RH is in fantastic shape. Even with all the rain they received, I only found a couple spots in the fairway were a little soggy, and did see one large puddle that didnt come into play. Even though I found a couple fairway and green-side bunkers, there was plenty of sand to execute your shot properly.
From the moment you pull into the property through the guard shack, you are treated like royalty. On the range, your hitting ProV1's and I found the practice green speed (10-11) and undulations very similar to the course.
Unfortunately for us today it was cart path only and as the fairways are fairly large it was difficult to get an accurate yardage for your approach. I found myself carrying 3-4 clubs, sand to fill the divot, and a towel. What I didn't expect to see is they have the golf boards and an e-bike to get around the course, which we will be back to try.
On the way to the course, we took I-15 down and on the way back we took 86 up to I-10. Not exactly sure which way I preferred or was quicker as both had their pro's and cons.
Once again, kudos to the grounds crew for getting the course in such great shape with the weather they had to deal with. Make sure to save yourself some time to enjoy an adult beverage on the 19th hole as it is spectacular.

Played 1/1/17 and had a 12:22 tee time. POP was just under 4 hours for a Sunday afternoon. Let me begin by saying I really enjoyed the course. The greens are divided into 3 sections (starter will let you know), and the carts all had real nice GPS that showed distance to water, traps, etc. As this was my first time, it was very nice to have. Without the GPS, course would've played much more difficult.
They have a bag drop, which I declined as there was a bunch of non golfers around, but the guys managing it were real nice and completely understood my hesitation.
The range was nice although it was about time to move the markers as most of the stations were pretty beat up, but range balls were included in the price of admission.
Tee boxes were very nice with great coverage and very flat. Never had a bad lie in the fairway as they were just about perfect. You don't need driver on every hole and if you do like me, will leave you with some very treacherous lies for your approach over water, or a visit to the bunker. Speaking of bunkers, I was in a couple and they were a little inconsistent. All were "fluffy", but some had about 1/2" before you hit hard-pan and others were what I would consider perfect 2" - 3". The greens are fairly flat, with the dreaded break towards the Salton Sea coming into play on every hole. The greens were very firm so expect a little roll out (3' - 4' with a PW) and were slow-medium slow. They rolled fine, just way too slow for how firm they were.
I thoroughly enjoyed my round and will be back sooner than later.

Had a 11:00 time on 12/10/16 (Saturday). Course conditions were typical Goose Creek, great tee boxes, carpet like fairways, and very nice greens that were firm and fast/quick that were fairly receptive.
The day prior GC had the Lorena Ochoa Invitational and the starter mentioned that all pins were in very approachable positions. Unfortunately I never really figured out the speed as all day I was rolling past 3'-5'.
What this report is really about is the staff @ GC. Knowing that we were going off so late and on a weekend, I was planing on a 5-6 hour round. As we got to the tee on #9, the starter came up to us and apologized for the slow play (approx 2:15 hours at this point). He proceeds to tell us that there was a group that was holding up play and that has been addressed. From that point on, we never waited and seemed like we had the place to ourselves. Total POP 4.5 hours for a Saturday (walking). With that being said, Goose Creek is a very nice course to walk as its pretty flat and the holes are pretty close to each other. They do not have pull/push carts to rent, but feel free to bring your own.
GC is a little pricey to play every week (especially on the weekend), but if you want to treat yourself to great day at a great course, you will not be disappointed.
Once again, thank you Goose Creek for a very enjoyable round.

Played 10/25/16 @ 11:00. SL is really a fun track that is extremely fair, that is usually in fantastic shape, as it was today.
The tee boxes were a little fuzzy (but they were in the process of mowing them), they are flat, and the par 3's had the usual (but not extreme) divot damage.
Fairways had just been mowed so there were alot of clipping around, but I'd say 90% of my balls in the fairway were setting up perfectly. The other 10% had to move some clippings out of the way. Some were softer than others, but roll out overall is about what you'd expect.
Greens were a little firm but held shots nicely. With the greens on the firm side, there was not the normal afternoon foot prints around the pins. A pleasant surprise was I really had to hunt to repair ball marks and only found 2-3 per green which has not always been the case at SL. Some had a little sand on them but no recent signs of aeration. The sand did not effect the speed much, as I would rate them as quick, especially above the hole. There are no really tricky breaks, just take a look and believe it.
I really enjoy playing at Sierra Lakes as it's always in great condition with a fair rate if you sign up for their e-mail discounts.

Played 6/11@ 06:15 from the white tees (6,743 yards/133/72.5). Let me begin by saying that the course is in really good shape and should be a great test for the GK Plays on 6/30. If your feeling froggy, the Jack's Black tees (7,628/137/76.8) are available, but not recommend for the faint at heart.
Tee Boxes - Level with good coverage
Fairways - Mostly green, and never had a bad lie (when in the fairway).
Rough - Thicker in some area's, but still able to find your ball. If you do miss the fairway, most likely you will be in the trees and have to invent something to try to get to the green.
Sand - Was in a couple of fairway bunkers that had plenty of sand and firm. Was also in a couple of greenside bunkers which had plenty of sand and were really nice to hit out of.
Greens - As mentioned, we played in the early a.m. and with the greens were still wet, if you were above the hole, they were quick. I can only imagine what they would be like in the afternoon. There are not huge undulations, and almost look fairly flat. Be sure to take a good look from all angles. They were a little hard, but could stop a well struck shot.
The carts have basic GPS including helpful hints (250 yards to lake front), which is nice. To walk the course is not super difficult in the fact that all but a couple of the holes are right next to each other. But the elevation changes make it more difficult (not as bad as Mountain Meadows).
They have two practice putting greens (would be 3 but one was closed). Driving range that depending on the day either grass or mats, and a small chipping green.
Course staff was really friendly and accommodating.

First of all, a huge shout out to Johnny, PGA West, Srixon and Cleveland.
The chipping contest was a lot of fun, and that Cleveland 60 degree 588 2.0 wedge sure had great balance and the feel was amazing. Congratulations to ItslikeImsaying (Mark) for winning it.
This was my first time playing the PGA West Greg Norman Course and I enjoyed it from minute we drove into the gated entrance. This is a course where you don't want to go from car to tee box. Arrive early and take full advantage of the practice facility. If you arrive super early like Josh and I did, you must try the breakfast burrito and Bloody Mary, both of which I highly recommend.
First view of the course I thought was breathtaking. With the narrow green fairways to the desert with the wild flowers blooming to all the water, its truly a site to behold.
We played the Blue/White combo tees today (71.5/128/6,427 yards), which was a lot of fun (great idea Rob or Mark). and it was the perfect set up for us. The tee boxes were level and well taken care of. The fairways were spectacular. They were in my top 3 of all the courses I have ever played. The ball would site up so nicely and give you a lot of confidence to try to go after the tricky greens. The greens IMO were kind of odd. They rolled medium/fast and were true, but just never really got the hang of them. They are really narrow and didnt hold even well struck balls (thanks for the tip sixpez). If you missed the green long, it often left you with a tricky down hill chip. With that being said, the fringe was just about as good or better than some courses greens that I have played, which gave you a great opportunity to pull out the Texas Wedge, which gave you an opportunity to get the ball close.
This was my second GK Plays event, and for anybody thinking about playing in one of these, do yourself a favor and show up. Not only do you get a chance to play a really nice course for a great rate, but you get to play with a lot of other people that are just as passionate about golf as you are.
Once again Johnny, thanks for the well run tournament and the sleeve of Srixon Z-Stars. Also a big shout out to Rob, ItsLikeImSaying (Mark), and Josh. If you ever get a chance to play with any of these guys, jump on it, as their sportsmanship/etiquette was spot on.

We out around 1:30 on 4/26/16 and played the Blue tees. "The Creek" seems like its coming back around with green fairways (thanks to the rain I'm sure) and tee boxes. Heck, they have even cut in actual fairways which is pretty nice.
Most of the tee boxes are in pretty good shape and level, and for those that weren't, there was plenty of space to find a good spot to tee off. As I mentioned earlier, the fairways are looking pretty good with way more green than brown. Wasn't in any bunkers this day, but they looked a little thin. The greens seemed a little "crusty" on top. Didn't seem like it effected the roll too much, but was noticeable. As always, the speed is just a tick above medium, and if you're above the hole, it does get quick. Their also very receptive, so feel free to pin hunting.
From the tips, "The Creek" is just over 6800 yards and depending on the winds, she can be tough. The staff is always top notch and very accommodating. Its a very walk-able course, with water fountains on 6th tee, 8th tee, 12th tee, and 15th tee.

Played 12/23/15 and had a 09:49 tee time. First of all let me say how great it is to be in So Cal and playing golf 2 days before Christmas.
The course seemed a little greener than most of the courses I've played lately. The tee boxes were in decent shape with the exception of the par 3's which is normal. The greens have a lot of undulation to them but since they were running a bit slower, it didn't seem to effect the break as much as you would think (BTW they were super smooth with only a couple UN-repaired ball marks that I really had to search for).
I did find a couple of fairway and greenside bunkers and they were firm with plenty of sand (no breakfast balls). The disappointing thing was there seemed to be shortage of rakes. The fairway bunkers had maybe 1 rake for a huge trap (if any) and the greenside bunkers had maybe 1 rake for every 2-3 bunkers.
As it had been a while since I had played out here, the club house trailer is gone and replaced with a really nice bar/restaurant/clubhouse.
Yucaipa Valley is really a fun track that has been off my radar for a while and I will definitely be back sooner than later.

Played my first GK plays event with sixpez, kassper7, and my Son. First of all, I would like to mention that if anybody is on the fence about making it a GK Event, you are missing out. This is truly a great group of people that love golf. Sixpez and kassper7, thanks for not making too much fun of my inability to make one of my 5 birdie attempts.
Now in regards to the golf, Goose Creek is really a fun course with a lot of character. I managed to stay out of the greenside bunkers, but found a few fairway bunkers that were firm with plenty of sand to play out of. Fairways are plenty wide enough to catch to catch a decent tee shot. Although if you do miss the fairway, there are plenty of hazards, but for the most part was never truly handcuffed to be able to go at the green. The greens were a little slower than the last time I played but still fairly quick and held a decently struck shot.
Once again, thanks to Johnny and Goose Creek for a fun day and that raffle table was amazing (yes I will be taking advantage of my free golf lesson soon).
I highly recommend Goose Creek. BTW make sure you get there early as the practice facility is amazing as well as is the restaurant and there are deals to be had in the pro-shop.
