This golf course has to be one of the best values for a good, playable course in the Phoenix area. I did not play the course prior to redo but the revised course is a joy to play. And, the challenge is there if you wish play the back tee. One nice aspect of this course is the varied elevation from tee to green. Some of the fairway lies vary as well. The positioning of the traps also provide some deception with depth and distance, which is makes the holes interesting.

The greens were in fantastic shape. But, if your looking for that nice check with lofted iron shots, it won't happen. The greens are lush, firm, dense and smooth bermuda with good pace. These greens are some of the best bermuda greens I have played.

The take away: great course in great shape, with exception of some bare patches on the fairways, at a great value.

6/21/15 7:44 am tee time, No. 10. In an attempt to beat the heat I went for a morning tee time and joined a threesome as a single. One nice thing is the Starter sends players out on the front and back nine until 8:00 am or so, in order to get as many players out before the heat. Made it round 18 in 4:15 or so. The green fee (~$40) was well worth it.
Played the back tees and they were in great shape. Fairways had some bare spots and some wet spots - recovery from the winter grass. Greens were in great shape, smooth, receptive and moderately quick - true.
Layout is fun and challenging. It helps to play the course more than once to know where you want to be. Some of the shorter par 4's require lay-ups into the wider section of the fairway. Overall, challenging holes with testing approaches - lots of fun.

Tee time: 1:35 pm 06/14/2015
Played the regular tees.
It had been approximately 2 weeks following aeration of the greens and fairways. Due to the aeration, the greens were "shagadelic", meaning slow, bumpy, and difficult to read and gauge speed. I think more sand may have helped. As probably guessed, I struggled putting. Regardless of the greens, the layout was fun. Although not narrow landing areas the trouble lurks just past the trees. Keeping the ball in the fairway is key here. Also, with quicker greens, I could see putting being a challenge. The green designs make for some interesting pin placements, especially on the short par 3's. Also, distance control is premium. The some greens are small and narrow.
Can I ask why the right rough line is right down the middle of the 17th fairway? And, the prime landing area is on a flat shelf on the right side of the fairway, IN THE ROUGH. That was weird.
Overall, a fun course with challenging greens at a quicker pace.

6/7/15 3:00 pm tee time. Thanks to the longer days of summer it's easy to finish 18 holes later in the day. Also, the course was empty which allowed for a 3 hour round - just fantastic. Encanto 18 was in great condition for a municipal course and considering that the winter rye grass has disappeared. The fairways were mostly good with exception of a few dried out areas. The tee boxed were good and the greens were great. Although the greens are bermuda, they hold up very well and are pretty fast. No cake walk to putt with the grain and pace. Keep in mind, the bunkers are a hazard. They can be difficult to play from.
This is a great facility to just get out there and play, and it's affordable.

On 5/28/2015, played the Plantation Course approximately 1 week following aeration. This course is a must play regardless of condition. Although the greens were OK at best, the course was a real joy to play. Many challenging shots from tee to green. Used all but one club in the bag and probably would have used all of them if I played hole #9 as intended. Many tee shots are blind and there is such severe slope on certain fairways that you're not sure where to hit it. Despite the challenging view from the tee, there is enough forgiveness to make it totally enjoyable. I hit two bunkers on the day and was thrilled to be there - they saved my ball from going into the junk. It would certainly help to play the course more than once, if you can afford the cost and time while in Maui.
