Good day to all the golfers who use Greenskeeper to review our course here at Eagle Glen. My name is Steve and I am the General Manager here at Eagle Glen.
I wanted to thank each of you personally for playing our course and choosing to play here when you have an opportunity play. We appreciate your business and do not take it lightly.
We also review our available Tee Time slots multiple times a day to offer you the best possible pricing at our facility. We also read every posting each of you submit. None of the issues go unnoticed.
While we cannot accommodate everyone's issues, I do want to clarify and comment on the GPS changes to our carts. There is a bit of rumbling on this.
First, the carts are the same and only the GPS has changed. It is the same company, just the newest version. It is still being developed and we are one of the first courses with it. So yes, there are bugs and the company is working on them.
Speed though, is not one of these. The old system allowed our carts to travel at 9 mph only. Additionally we had numerous speed bumps throughout the course to further slow you down and aid in the enforcement of safety issues. This did not prevent some guests from acting poorly, driving beyond the safety areas, and doing damage to the carts and injury to themselves. It was also a very bumpy ride that promoted spilled drinks, lost personal articles, and massive time delays.
The new system has allowed us to speed up the carts to 11 mph. We are also able to remove the speed bumps as we can control the downhill areas. In these five areas on the course, the speed does drop to 7 mph. This is a fixed speed by the company. So I understand why you think it may be slower, but the fact is that the carts actually are going faster than ever. Plus you get a smoother ride and we were also able to remove all the ropes off the course and clean it up. These changes have resulted in an early average of Pace of Play improvement by 19 minutes.
We will still retain our have No Cart areas for your safety and the protection of the golf course. I think if you look at the entire package of what has been provided to improve your experience here at Eagle Glen you will agree that it is continually getting better and better.
If you have further questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. Feel free to reach me here at the club anytime. My email is sjeffrey@eagleglengc.com
Thanks very much and we hope to see you here soon.

Good day Greenskeeper players—

I noticed the last two comments about the facility so I wanted to re-print this submission. We are working hard to prepare the course for the fall and winter and far into next year. Because of that, you may experience some interaction with the maintenance team. Rest assured though that the playing conditions are extremely good. We are nearly complete with the complete re-sodding of the fron nine holes already. Work will begin on the back nine late next week and continue through the end of the first week of September. The hot weather is finally helping the Bermuda wake up and prosper.

As I said previously, our main objective is to promote the Bermuda growth all through the remainder of the summer and into the early fall. This will provide us and you the golfer, an excellent playing surface throughout the winter and into next spring. While the Bermuda certainly goes dormant once the weather turns and because of our preparation, we are expecting a very short dormancy period.

As each of you know the practice of Overseeding has many benefits, but over time can impede the quality of the Bermuda grass underneath. Eagle Glen Golf Club usually Overeeds our course in September, but we have decided to step up our preparation for this year instead of waiting until 2011. This will greatly improve our playing conditions now. By not Overseeding this year, we can do a full spray out of the rough to eliminate the Rye and Poa Annua, to provide a more consistent non-fairway lie. We are also spraying out the fairways completely to remove all the Rye grass imbedded there. Now with the arrival of the warmer weather we have already started this process. You may notice the Rye grass dying out as we promote the Bermuda grass underneath and identify areas that we want to immediately re-sod. This is a simple cosmetic issue and has no affect on play.

Aerification of our greens will begin on Tuesday Sept. 7th and Wednesday Sept 8th. We will do nine holes at a time so that we can provide uninterrupted play. We will not be closing this September for the Overseeding and will remain open all month long. There will also not be any Cart Path Only restrictions this year. Thus, you the golfer will have a greater opportunity to play without restrictions through the great weather September always offers.

In addition, we are continuing our aggressive redo of bunkers. We have completed over 25 bunker renovations already in 2010, and have approximately 10 more to go before the end of the year. This is a process we are committed to and take very seriously. Each bunker renovation requires a full removal of all the existing sand, a total re-design of the drainage system, and then replenished with entirely new sand. This is a costly endeavor, but one that we feel is necessary to provide the proper play conditions our guests deserve.

Despite these difficult times, we hope you will appreciate all that we are doing to provide a great playing experience here at Eagle Glen. When you have a chance to play, we sincerely hope our efforts continue to make us one of your first choices. We greatly appreciate your patronage and strive to keep us on your favorite course list.

I have not been on in a while and wanted to give you an update about many of the things we are currently doing to improve our conditions on a daily and long term basis for the upcoming year.

Good day to all of our Greenskeeper players. I have not been on in a while and wanted to take a moment and thank all of the people that play here regularly. On behalf of the Eagle Glen Golf Club and staff, we greatly appreciate your business.

I would also like to get you up to date with what is happening here at the course. If you are planning on playing in the next couple of weeks, these are the conditions you will experience. We will be closing on Sept. 8th to overseed our Tee Grounds and Fairways. We will also Aerify our greens during this period. We plan to reopen on Sept. 18th. Please check with us though, as we may be able to get some play out as soon as Sept 14th. When we re-open, we will be cart path only for approximately two more weeks. Weather will be the factor as to how quickly the Rye grass roots.

Prior to Sept. 8th, we have already begun drying out the course significantly in preparation to drop seed. You will see some color loss in the fairways and roughs. Play conditions will be good, but cosmetically, we will be affected. We are continuing to re-sod the course for all damaged areas as we have done over the last year. Hole 6 is nearly complete and we will then begin hole 7. (Our final rough problem area).

Throughout the fall we will continue to work on bunker repair. Over the last year, we have fixed 13 bunkers already. We have several more to go and they are expensive to do. We could do it immediately and raise our rates to cover the expense, but we feel it is not good business to do so. So with great respect to our players, we are knocking them off one by one. We hope you appreciate our continued efforts to make the course playable and keeping prices fair and providing a great value.

We try to keep our green speed around 9 ½ to 10, but some guests find this too slow, while others too fast. At the end of the day, it’s about the roll and we believe that you will find our greens always fair and true.

When you do come to play, you will notice that we are always focused on Pace of Play. We record it on our GPS system and we post it at the first tee. We do appreciate everyone who takes this seriously and helps us to keep a good pace. Ball mark repair, raking bunkers, respecting cart path requests, are all good for the golf business in general and will enhance your experience. This is why we post them repeatedly on our GPS system. We are thankful for the many of you that go the extra distance to aid us in this endeavor.

To further demonstrate our appreciativeness to the loyal Greenskeeper players, please mention that you read this review, provide our Golfshop staff with your email, register yourself as a Greenskeeper loyal patron, and I will take $20 off your next round. (Rack rate please). The reason to do this is that we would like to begin some Greenskeeper player focus groups and this will allow us the opportunity to extend you an invitation.

On behalf of the Eagle Glen Golf Club and myself, we very much appreciate your continued play of the course and support of our property.

Sincerely,
Steve Jeffrey

Good day—

We here at Eagle Glen very much appreciate your patronage and want to keep you abreast of what is happening here at the course with regard to our playing conditions.

First, we have begun to transition our fairways and roughs from the over seeded Rye grass and back to Bermuda for the summer. This transition will certainly create some cosmetic issues with grass that will be brown in color. This is due to us lowering our mow heights to promote growth of the Bermuda grass. Chemical applications are also being performed to stimulate this transition.

Simultaneously, we had a severe problem with organic material that occurred in our irrigation lines. This prevented proper watering in some areas and has generated a quicker transition of the Rye to Bermuda than we were anticipating. This problem has been sourced, identified, and is in its final stages of being rectified.

We plan to begin adding sod to our stressed rough areas now that the season for Bermuda grass growth is near. This will begin later this month and continue well into the summer.

Certainly, the course is not as cosmetically appealing as we would like, but it will not affect the high level of playing conditions that we are trying to provide for our guests.

We are continuing the aggressive hand tilling and amending of our bunker sand. This will provide a softer and more consistent surface from which to play. This will continue all year long until we can repair all the bunkers properly some time next year.

Our Aeration process was a great success. Our greens have rebounded extremely well and the completed healing process is far ahead of schedule. We will always continue to verti-cut our greens and apply a light top dressing. This program helps us to provide you with the best putting surface we are able.

One note on our greens. We do purposely try to keep our speeds consistently around nine on the meter. This is due to our severe undulations and frankly to aid in a quicker Pace of Play.

Finally, I want to address the last two comments about the recent tournament. While we do not condone slow play and do everything to avoid it, ultimately it comes down to the players. All golfers should play ready golf and play within their skill level. If we all did this, then yes, all golf courses would play faster. This is not a new problem, nor is it solely at our facility. As for fivesomes, we will send them out when appropriate so that we do not clog the course with twosomes and threesomes that may be created by “short shows.” When we do this, we send maybe one per hour. This does not slow down play. The individual golfer’s ability to keep a ball in the fairway and play ready golf is what slows down play.

I agree with the comments about slow play and we are working hard with numerous scenarios to improve our pace. I myself work the first tee regularly to aid in this endeavor. On behalf of the staff, I apologize if you do not think we take this seriously and we are working diligently to always improve our guests’ experience.

We hope you appreciate our attempts at keeping our players well informed as much as we truly appreciate you continuing to make Eagle Glen your favorite course to visit and play.

Good day Eagle Glen guests-

I would just like to take a moment and continue to thank all of you for your continued play and the responses you provide. We here at the course take your experience very seriously and review the site here daily. We have found it to be very valuable in our day-to-day measurement of the course, staff, and overall playing conditions.

We are working very hard on improving the property. We think our fairways are very nice and provide an excellent base from which to hit from. Our greens are firm and we work on them regularly. We just completed some verticutting and top dressing to improve the evenness of the green and improve the roll. Yes, it is true that the greens will be slower during this, but the end result is an excellent green with great rolling characteristics. We will continue this all through the season to ensure the best possible putting conditions for you.

We are working very hard on repairing our bunkers. The easy answer is that we have to dig up all of them and redo the drainage system properly. This is a very expensive and time-consuming endeavor. We will aim to do this next year. Until then, we are tilling each bunker by hand. This will improve the quality and consistently of the sand. There is a lot of sand in the bunkers; it has just been compacted over the years. The tilling will allow for some greatly improved conditions. In addition, we will amend the sand as needed once we complete the detailing. We will continue this process every 60 days or so to keep the conditions very playable.

We will also begin resodding much of the rough areas come May. Once the temperature warms up, we are going to transition to 100% Bermuda through all of the rough. This will provide great conditions and improved cosmetics. We continue to improve the other transition areas with mulch and just completed a total re-sodding of the 10th tee.

Finally, we restructured our rates to simply provide the best golf experience possible and an incredible value. No other reason that it is the right thing to do and we hope you take advantage of our value oriented pricing structure. I think you will find us a terrific facility and a superb value.

Pace of Play is a huge area of focus for us. We have added GPS and extra Marshals to ensure the quickest pace possible. We use at least three Marshals in key areas each busy day along with Starters and First Tee assistants. We are doing everything possible to keep pace tolerable. You can help us by playing ready golf and hitting from the proper tee. Every course shares this issue and it is not easy to accommodate everyone.

I hope you find this information useful and continue to make Eagle Glen Golf Club your course of choice. We very much appreciate your patronage.
