Played here on 7/9 which was the last day of public play before the course shuts down for the American Century Celebrity Tournament. This is my 3rd time playing here in the past 9 years. Each time has been a special day for me, but considering the tournament conditions and the grandstands and TV towers peppered throughout the grounds, it was EXTRA special on this day. The conditions are the best I have ever played: fairways were pristine, tee boxes were great, greens rolled true and fast. The rough wasn't too penal but "grabby" if you didn't come in steeply enough. At over 6,000 feet above sea level, I found my ball flew a little bit farther (good for the ego), but made it hardest on approach shots from inside 125 yards. For example, I hit an approach wedge on #16 that I absolutely nutted and was sure it would be on the stick and yet had to watch it fly 20 yards over the hole. Oh well, can't complain with hitting a pure shot.

We played in exactly 4 hrs and 25 minutes. And honestly, I would have been much happier with a 6-hour round so I could enjoy it longer (I'll never say that about another course).

Although it is pricey, if you get the right weather and stop to enjoy the views, you will not be disappointed.

Saw a lot of celebrity athletes playing practice rounds during my day (Greg Maddux, Marshall Faulk, Doug Flutie, to name a few). What a great day!

Played here on April 5th on an internet special (1:00 tee time = $70)
Fun little course. Played from the whites because I was put into a group of guys who were novices and since I had never played here, figured it would be more fun if we all played from the same tees. Looking back, I wish I had played the blues, just because the length was pretty short.

The course is not very long, but is challenging for the following reasons: 1) there is no rough; if you miss the f'way, you will probably roll into the desert; 2) the greens were not receptive. it took me 6 holes to realize that you have to hit 20 yards short of the hole and let it roll from there. Putting was really tough, but fun (undulations, fast greens) and everything rolled TRUE.

Service was great from everybody. They do a fun challenge on the 16th hole (a par 3). One of the pro shop guys makes a bet with you: if you buy a $30 gift certificate from him on the tee, he lets you hit your tee shot and if you hit the green, then he has to hit a tee shot. If he can't hit it closer than you, he will double your gift certificate amount. I was planning on buying something after the round so it made sense to give it a try. I hit it pin high, but 3 feet off the green to the right. d%mn !

Overall, a s tourist who likes to play different courses, I would not play here anytime soon, but if I was a regular, I'd like to get another chance at those greens. I shot a 45 on the from thanks to a couple of blow-up holes, but a decent 38 on the back once I figured out that driver is not even necessary on many holes.

quick hole tip: #9 and #18 run parallel to each other. If you are gonna miss the fway on nine, miss right and you are fine; likewise, on 18, miss left. You will be fine in either situation as long as you miss the strip of waste bunker between the fairways.

On August 2, I embarked on a road trip from South OC to Lake Tahoe where I would meet some friends for a long weekend. I decided I would turn it into a golf adventure and allowed my self to play five courses on the drive up. I played Sandpiper on 8/2 as the first course along my sojourn.

Played as a single at 10:40 am. Unfortunately, the sun never really came out, but that is my only complaint about the day. The course was in very good condition. The pace was fine. I played it in 4:10, but I was behind several foursomes so acceptable.

The pro shop, starter and restaurant folk were all very professional. I asked the starter for any tips and he only gave me one: STAY BELOW THE HOLE. He was 100% correct. My three three putts all came from approaches above the hole.

It was pretty pricey ($139) and I've played better layouts, but the views are pretty spectacular.

On this trip I played five different courses (Sandpiper, La Purisima, Winchester CC, Gray's Crossing, and Edgewood). I would rank them in the following order (taking total golf experience--conditions, layout, value):

1. Gray's Crossing (immaculate and fun and challenging)
2. Winchester (fun layout, free for me with a member, ideal conditions)
3. La Purisima (my favorite layout, only $50)
4. Sandpiper
5. Edgewood (the high price and conditions that were below what you should expect for $200)

Played on Memorial Day for my buddy's 40th birthday. Weather was perfect as was the playing conditions of the course.

Service was top notch. For the expensive green fee you also get a forecaddy. Although he had only been working ta the course a short time, he definitely knew the game and was quick to get yardages and give you aiming spots. He made the day much more enjoyable.

I wouldn't play there unless it was much cheaper but for a special occasion it was great. Awesome views all the way around.

Played Friday (2.12) at 11:00 am with my Creek Card. I knew all the recent rain would affect play, but the course looks so beautiful right now and the weather was spectacular, I just had to play. Predictably, there was little roll on the fairways and the greens were spongy-slow-bumpy, but a fine day at my favorite OC course overall. It's hard to complain when you know that 1/3 of the nation is sitting in snow.

Customer service was spot-on (pro shop got me out as a single in about 20 minutes; the cart girls came around 3-4 times). The pace of play was little touch and go at times (we waited on several holes), but I didn't mind as I was happy to be outside. The round took 5 hours.

My biggest complaint is lodges at the other golfers: people, please fix your ball marks! I fixed 3-4 on EVERY green. Seriously, it's such a simple thing. Consider it a moment of pride for a good shot. Right now the greens are so soft every shot can make a mark. Let's keep our greens clean, eh?

Played Legacy on Monday 12.21 on a $49 rate (thru my Tijeras Creek membership--OB Sports). Normally the course is $110 and it would have been worth that rate. this is a beautiful and pretty challenging course (at least on a few holes). It was a bit cold the day I played, but still good enough. I shot a 92 (due to two blow up holes). If you're in the lAs Vegas area and want to play I really recommend it. Customer service (from bag drop thru cart girl was spot on.

Played for the first time on my 40th birthday with my wife (6.23). I played Spyglass and Spanish Bay on the sunday and monday before with my buddies who flew up to surprise me for my birthday. It was a fantastic three days that culminated with Pebble.

What an amazing day. We hired a caddie (Tom) and i have to HIGHLY recommend the experience. It was the single best walk I have ever taken. Although it was a bit cool and gray we had an EXCELLENT day. This is why we play golf.

The first two holes are pretty basic, but after that it builds to the best layout I have ever been on. Holes 5-10 are simply fantastic. You have ocean, cliffs, barking sea lions, diving pelicans, crashing waves, wind, etc...

I didn't play especially well (95), but i parred a few holes and hit some shots I am especially proud of. They punched the greens the morning i played so it may have cost me a couple of putts, but I didn't really let it bother me. My wife plays only about 10 times a year, but she played really well (parred four holes on the front nine) as she listened to exactly what our caddie said and hit the ball great.

It is extremely expensive to play, but well worth it for a special occasion. We also stayed at the lodge (Ocean View room on the 18th fairway) and I can recommend that experience as well. What a trip!

My three buddies and i played this course for my big birthday extravaganza (6.22). We played Spyglass the day before and had a great time. The weather for Spanish Bay was AMAZING. When we teed off on #1 it was gray and foggy, but by the time we hit our approaches it was beautiful. And it stayed that way the entire day.

I really liked the layout, although i don't understand why it's called a "links" course. There are a lot of elevation changes and forced carries that didn't look like the links style courses i have seen. at any rate, it was a beautiful day and a beautiful course. i was bummed that there was no driving range (although very good putting and chipping greens).

Customer service was top notch all the way around, but for the prices it better be.

My wife took me to Pebble for my 40th birthday and my three best friends surprised me by showing up on the first tee. We played on Sunday (6.21). Spyglass was beautiful. Great layout. We used a forecaddie (Brennan) and he was pretty useful about the layout and reading greens.

My only complaint was the hard, wet sand. it cost me a few strokes because you couldn't blast out of it.

I highly recommend the course to anyone who is looking for a challenge. The numerous deer that walk around are a nice little side benefit. They literally will walk right by you as you play your shots.

The course was in excellent condition. The customer service was topnotch. When I went to the proshop two days later to pick up a hat, the gentleman behind the counter remembered me by name the second I walked in. It was certainly expensive, but it lived up to my expectations.

Played on Memorial Day at 6:45. Greens are still a bit bumpy, but recovering. they are very slow right now and the guys I played with said they were slower even yesterday. For as much play as this track gets, it's still a great place to play.

Played today 5.24 on an email special ($60 after 10 am). The course is a bit dry, but I was pleased overall with the conditions (especially for the price).

Played here on Saturday of Labor Day weekend as a part of my stay and (unlimited) play package. The Palms was in better shape than the Valley overall, but the Palm greens were pretty sandy.

Pace of play was fantastic on both courses--no round was longer than 4 hours.

Tee boxes were beat up a bit

Fairways were very nice I thought (although the Valley course had a lot of bad spots)

Pro shop and starters were excellent.

Cart girl was very frequent and nice.

Enjoyable time despite the heat. I just love staying at a resort and simply "getting out" whenever I feel like it. Definitely worth the trip if you get a good package deal like mine ($200 per night + unlimited golf--the room and pool were nice also).
