10/12/20 ... Just played Brea Creek. Warning, they just punched the greens and were laying a 1/2 inch of sand on top while we were playing. I'm going to stay away for at least 10 days. Also, the tee boxes are really beat up - 3-4 on a 10 scale.

Played on Monday Dec 3. Teed off as a twosome at 11 AM and the pace of play was real good. Check in was smooth, driving range was nearby and the balls were decent. Practice putting green is a great feature. Coursewise, I give Green River a 5 of 10 rating: too many unpaved cart paths, too many tree roots making you wish for an off road cart, and, unfortunately, the patchwork greens on the front nine detracted from a beautiful and quiet day and a fun layout.

Played on Sunday afternoon, May 15 and was shocked to see THEY WERE AERATING AND SANDING THE GREENS .... on the busiest day and time for golf. This was happening at 2PM on a Sunday (not 5AM on a Monday). On hole #12, the crew saw us coming up the fairway, picked up the flag and planted it 10 yards from the green ... we just picked up and went to the next hole. It makes no sense ... most courses aerated over a month ago and no one aerates and sands on the busiest and most expensive days for golf! Anyway, the greens will be unplayable, then bumpy until mid-June.

Stopped by on 3/27/10 to putt and chip ... the practice greens have been recently punched and sanded and the chipping area is just a flat grass area without a flag. I was told that THE COURSE GREENS WILL BE PUNCHED AND SANDED ON 3/29/10 (MONDAY).

The course is in good shape which makes this challenging course a more enjoyable experience. The greens are fast ... you get an idea of the type of speed that the pros contend with all the time. The course has very little contact with any houses so your views are of the moonscape type hills (with lots of large boulders) or the mountains in the distance. To score well, you have to think about where to place your tee shots in order to have good angles to the green AND you have to be on the right level of the greens. The greens are fast so it is best to be below or on the same level as the hole - above the hole is risky.

Heads Up! Driving Range Is Still Not Available. Three weeks ago, the proshop told me that the range would be open in a couple weeks. I am playing on Saturday and called today to ask about the range ... two to three weeks more they said, the grass is not growing as fast as they hoped. At this rate, figure that the driving range MAY open mid to late January, 2008.

Played Oak Valley this past weekend primarily due to the excellent GK reviews/ratings. The trip from Orange county was worth it: the course was in great shape, the people were nice and the layout was challenging. When I mentioned our handicaps, the proshop recommended we play the white tees (slope of 131) ... and I am glad we did.

This is definitely a shotmakers course combined with challenging greens.

Played Sunday after Thanksgiving. Though the course was wet from several days of rain, the conditions were good. Customer service was excellent - efficient proshop/starter and the Marshall helped us look for a stray shot and diplomatically got our twosome ahead of a foursome. It was nice to play a course where proshop, starter and marshall were all focused on creating a pleasant experience. The North course is not as long as the South course but I really like how you have to think about the club you chose and where you need to land your shots.

Considering the Greenkeeper.org rating, I was expecting better conditions, but the course was the same as I remembered from years ago: relatively flat, thin grass on tee boxes and some fringe areas. Greens were the best part of the experience - good speed and in good shape. Fivesomes on the weekend make for a long day:)

Short course and Slow pace of play is good for beginners and intermediate players and social outings. We had two beginners and they liked not being rushed and having to pickup because we were certainly keeping up with the 5-some ahead of us. I would not play the course with my golfing buddies unless we went out within the first two hours of opening. SUGGESTIONS: NO FIVE-SOMES; Post "Repair Ball Marks" and "Fill Divots" on Scorecards, inside the carts, on the tee boxes and on the flags; Fill the Divot Mix Bottles - I had to band the bottle to lossen the mix; Provide Divot Mix Container at every tee box; Place Scorecard and Pencil inside every cart; If you don't have a pencil and scorecard in every cart, then Place Scorecards and Pencils at the First and Second tees; Post "Target Pace of Play" - 2 hr 15 min a side. How about a "Starter" at the first tee that welcomes the players, suggests divot and ball mark repair - give them a "Meadowlark GC" repair if they don't have one - and indicates the "Target Pace of Play".
