Played today, May 23. This course is in excellent condition except for the bunkers. The greens had been verticut but should be perfect by Saturday, if not tomorrow. They were not lightening fast but were smooth and fairly receptive. Be aware of where the ocean is, it has influence on the break. Tee boxes were level and in fine condition including the par 3's. The fairways were excellent with plenty of roll. The rough was consistent and not too penal. Most of the bunkers were abysmal; hard packed dirt. The bunkers on 18 were OK.

The condition of the course was somewhat surprising. The management of this course was hit with a big maintenance headache by the County Fire Authority. The CFA is making them remove all the vegetation on the slopes by the houses that surround the course. I've heard rumors of a cost of close to a million dollars. The work is now going on. It is too bad as the slopes that have been done are bare and the look of the course is suffering. It is nice that the management has not cut back in other areas in order to save money for this project.

This is fun golf course. The only questionable hole is number 15. This is a par 5 with a completely blind tee shot. There is a guide pole, but there is also plenty of trouble to the right and left. Also having 3 par 3's, two of which are in a row, 7 and 8, on the front 9 is a little odd. But it is a fine course, with the expected elevation changes and some great views

Played here Tuesday, the 21st. Course is close to excellent. The tee boxes were near perfect as were the fairways. The greens were very close to being completely healed, just a little slow and a slightly bumpy. Excellent sand in the bunkers. The rough could be penal if the ball went to the bottom. Lets call it lush. If you haven't played here, know that you get a lot of elevation change on some holes, plenty of slope on some fairways, plenty of break on most greens and a great golf experience all the time. Good staff, beverage cart at good intervals and good sandwiches at the turn.

I played here Sunday, May 5th. I've played here 2 or 3 times now and I like this course. The holes are quite varied with some elevations changes. The staff was friendly and helpful. The greens this year were quite smooth and receptive. In the past they have been smooth but hard. There isn't a great deal of undulation in them, but you need to watch where you are in relation to the hills and the valley. The fairways were excellent as were the tee boxes. The bunkers had plenty of sand and were pretty consistent. The 18th, their signature hole, is a par 4 that has water in the front and right side of the green. If you are a 155 yards or less to the green for your second shot, you are hitting off a down hill lie with a prevailing left to right wind. Great golf hole. Grass driving range, practice chipping and putting greens, while good, are not conveniently placed. Like all Vegas Valley courses, this one can be pounded by the wind. We had some significant winds the day we played, however this course allows you to be able to play even in gusting winds. The design seems to give you a landing area even if the wind gets up. This is a very nice course that challenges you, but does not beat you up. It keeps your interest.
Beverage cart appeared at good intervals. Since the last time I played here the clubhouse has been moved and rebuilt, but is still prefab and pedestrian, but it serves it's purpose.

I played here Saturday, May 4th. I'd never played here before, but I will be back. This is a resort course. You are treated as a guest and a valued one. The course is a bit of an ego builder; the fairways are wide and either I had a good day with the driver or there are not many obstacles in the fairways ( I had a good day; 13 of 14 fairways). The tee boxes and fairways were great. The greens were slow and there were issues with what appeared to be the result of a fungal infestation. But they were smooth except for the affected areas. The bunkers were either without sand or they were extremely compacted. I was in a group of 60 players and everyone who was in one complained about the bunkers.
A very nice driving range, chipping area and practice putting green. Regular visits by the beverage cart. Coldest beer I've had in a long time in the gril

I played here on Saturday in a tournament. I had not played here in many years, in fact it might as well have been the first time. This is a very short, 6156 from the tips, par 70 golf course. It has some severe dog legs and a couple of tight lines for tee shots. It is an L. A. County course so the condition is a B on good days out of an ABCDF rating. It was about a C+ Saturday. The greens were really slow. I played with some regulars and they were surprised about the slow speed. Some greens have severe undulations and if the greens were too fast you could spend the day trying to get the ball in hole.
Pace of Play was Saturday at a County Course that allows 5-somes or in other words 5 hours.
Despite the condition it was a fun track. You have to move the ball both ways and use a lot of different shots. It is also quite an ego booster.

Well the review of this course is a little slanted. I played on this North Course, Monday after having played the South Course Saturday and Sunday. The thing is I played in a tournament and we were the first players on this course after it was re-opened. It had been over seeded and closed for weeks. It was naturally, pristine, no divots, no ball marks, lush fairways, ultra smooth greens. The greens were a little slow as are all new greens, but that was all that could be said in any sort of negative about the condition of this course. Like the South Course the layout is great with many challenging holes. There are also many holes where you have lots of room. It is a fine mixture of holes.
As I opined about the South Course, the staff is terrific and the practice area is outstanding. This is really good facility

I played the South Course Saturday and Sunday. I like this course, it is challenging, fair and in good condition. It is a fairly typical Cochella Valley golf course. Sometimes the perspective and depth perception is difficult because of the lack of vertical landmarks (trees) or other defining objects. The condition of the golf course was very good, firm fairways with just a few bare spots and smooth greens that held fairly well, but were a little slow. There were quite a few ball marks on the greens, but I think that has to do with recent over seeding and the lack of time for the root system to be established. The staff was excellent, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. On Saturday I paid $85.00 which included golf, cart, breakfast buffet, range balls and 2 beverages after my round. I can not say enough about the practice area at this facility, it is top notch. The driving range is all grass and huge. There are two chipping greens with bunkers and a huge putting green. There is also a putting green by the first tee. The views around this course are spectacular and the wildlife is great too. I highly recommend this course.

Played here today on some sort of email special, $38.00 for golf, cart and hamburger. The front nine of this course is shorter but tighter than the back nine. There were lots of roped off fairways which neutralized the effectiveness of the carts GPS. There were a few wet spots and a few bare spots in the fairways. Many of the fairways are lined with lateral water hazards. The greens were fast and tricky. They were also quite firm. I'm going to use the excuse that in the morning, on the front nine, it was overcast and very gray so reading the greens was difficult, because without the sun it was hard to see any contrast and therefore a lot of the breaks. It would seem as though a putt was either level or up hill and the next thing you know your ball is 10 to 15 feet past the hole. I had four 3 putt greens on the front nine for a total of 18 putts (I had a chip-in birdy). Very devious greens, but fair, once you are familiar with them. The back nine is 400 yards longer than the front. There are 3, 450 or longer par 4's. Two of these are downhill, down wind while the 16th is severely uphill into the wind. This is a fun course, the staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a great practice green. The driving range has grass and mats, but it looks like the grass area has not been used for sometime and the mats are well used. I recommend this course, but bring your eagle eye green reading and "A" putting game.

I played the Lakes Course of River Ridge 3 days in a row, 1 practice round and 2 tournament rounds. I really like this golf course. It has great elevation changes, water, lots of sand and very good to great conditions. Holes 12 and 13 are really, really good golf holes and if the wind is whipping up in the afternoon, really, really tough. The overall condition of the course is great. Fairways, tee boxes and bunkers are excellent and the rough can be penal. The greens, oh those greens. We teed off at 8:00 am and they were running about a 9+, by the time they dried out they were 10 or 11. They were smooth, they were receptive, but boy is there a lot of movement. Some putts, I wanted to leave the cover on the putter. . I believe they are soon to start aerating the course as the other course, the Vineyard, had just been done. This is a really fun, challenging course and with a motel right on the grounds, a great golf destination.

I like this course. It has some challenging holes, plenty of water, but rather forgiving fairways. The condition however would best be describe as scruffy. Plenty of bare spots in the fairways. Some of the greens had bare spots, the result of a fungus I would guess. Because of all the recent humidity I think courses are really fighting to save their greens from fungi. The greens rolled really well as most of the bare spots were on the edges. They held very well. I should mention that some of these greens have some fairly deep undulations and depressions. The bunkers were compacted dirt. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I paid $32 for golf and cart as an over 55 senior. Well worth the green fee. I think mid week for everyone else it is $42.00

Played here Monday and Tuesday. This course tends to be tight and has some extensive elevation changes. But it is a resort course so it is not killer tough. Overall the course is in fine condition. The greens are very receptive. They are not too fast however. They are for the most part smooth, but because they are so soft, ball marks, even repaired ones, can be a problem. The other issues are worm holes and the dirt they leave and the crows digging up the green, going after the worms. Not a huge problem but noticeable. The fairways had a few scruffy spots, but again, for the most part fine. Tee boxes were fine too. The bunkers were excellent, plenty of nice firm sand. 6 of us go down to Pala Mesa twice a year. We pay about $180 for 2 rounds of golf and one night's lodging. The rooms are nice, the restaurant is very good and the staff is terrific. And if you are so inclined there is a casino nearby. It is great buddy golf destination.

Played a practice round here today, Thursday. Teed off 30 minutes late due to a Men's Club event. When I booked the tee time I was told I would be behind this event. What I wasn't told was that it was a shot-gun start. Once we did tee off (on #10) the pace of play was fine. I must say that the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful.
I had not played here since the SCGA sold the course. I was disappointed. The fairways were not good. There were areas where the grass was spotty and the ball would sit down. There were bare spots and there were areas that were soaked and too soft. The greens had recently been verti-cut. These were the deepest cuts I have every seen for this process, right down to the soil in some areas. I just hope they heal by next Tuesday. The greens were very soft. How they roll under normal conditions I could not say because of the verti-cutting. The bunkers were moist and compacted, but if you really went down after the ball, the club would slide through the sand quite well and you could generate good spin. I was, unfortunately, in quite a few bunkers and only one lacked sufficient sand and that bunker and more specifically the area in which I landed was obviously a very popular spot. Some good things; the driving range is great and is grass. There is good chipping/putting green with a bunker. That green was in good condition. I only paid $35.00 with cart as a Senior so the price was fine. I just wish the course was in such condition that I would have considered the $35.00 a bargain
