This used to be a premier public course in the area. The course is no longer maintained as a premier course. The sand traps in particular are awful. It doesn't appear the traps have been raked in months. Greens a bit bumpy but better than they were in July. Tee boxes hadn't been mowed in a few days. A really good layout but a disappointment.

Played Port Ludlow today after an absence of a couple years. The course is in excellent shape. This was once the premier public course in Washington. A few other courses have passed them on all the lists but the condition was as good as I can remember. The only minor gripe was somewhat rocky sand traps.

We play this course every week this spring in our golf league. It typically is a wet golf course in the winter but has dried out beautifully and is excellent shape. My only complaint might be the sand traps which I find to be rocky in many places. This course was developed in hopes of possibly supporting a major golf tournament. It has never risen to that level of renown but I think the golfer wins with a fine course at a reasonable price. The facilities are somewhat undeveloped but nevertheless this is worth going out of your way to play.

We have played Auburn twice in the last month and both times found the course to be in great condition. I think this is one of the better locals courses in the area with an interesting design and a fine newer clubhouse. Worth playing if in the area.

Druids Glen is one of the better designs in the northwest. When in good shape it is worth going somewhat out of your way to play. As of late April 2017, it is not in good shape. Several of the greens are almost unplayable with ruts that make putting somewhat of a joke. The 9th hole used to have a lake that came into play that is now empty. It is an eyesore with dirt mounds on the edge of the green and lining that obviously needs to be replaced. Despite what I would consider to be a pressing need to get that fixed, we saw no work being done on the weekday we played.

We usually enjoy a nice afternoon of golf here. The setting is idyllic and the golf course is pleasant and good to walk. Normally the course has been in reasonably good condition. This is not groomed like a resort course... it feels like a muni.

On Labor Day it was not a good experience. They must have something wrong with the greens because some ofthem were terribly pockmarked and a joke to putt on. Perhaps even more disturbing was the pace of play which would have been near 6 hours if we hadn't quit after #14. It took us 4:35 to play 14 holes and they were still stacked up ahead of us. They mentioned they were booked solid when we checked in but with adequate spacing and a little marshalling (we saw no marshalls) this could be substantially improved. We won't be back anytime soon.

This is a very enjoyable course to play on an Oregon coast golf trip. The two nines are rather different with the first being an inland 9 and the second near the edge of the coast. The course is maintained like a fine country club with greens running in excess of 10. Although the last few holes are short and a little funky, we found the experience to be one we would like to return to often.

As with most Oki courses Harbour Pointe was in good shape except a couple sand traps needed more sand. The layout at Harbour Pointe is an oustanding one in my opinion. Really seems to be two different courses... a flat and watery front nine and a hilly back nine with almost no water. No two holes are alike and most require thought and good shotmaking. This was actually rated the #1 new public golf course in America when it opened in the early 90's but no longer seems to have quite the same cache that it once did. Despite a slow round at 5 hours, it is well worth your time.

Played the West and South courses last week. Rancho was one of 8 courses we played and we rated it the weakest, all things considered. This was spring break week and there was lots of activity everywhere making it feel more like a busy resort than an enjoyable golf experience. The West course starts off like a basic muni dropping you down into a flat drainage area that must be flooded during big storms. We had a hard time locating distance makers and the first few holes were basically featureless. The course becomes a bit more interesting after about hole 3 but still the holes are all completely surrounded by housing on the edge of play. Rather unattractive and old fashioned. Maintenance was generally good although greens a bit slower than most we played.

After a 2 1/2 hour front, the concession at the turn was about 15 people deep. We hadn't seen a cart girl so had to get something which took at least 20 minutes. The starter was sympathetic and put us on the relatively good and lightly used South course and we had a better back 9 experience. Nevertheless, we will not be returning. Too many good courses in the area.

On this trip we played Eagle Mountain, both We-Ko-Pa courses, Gold Canyon - Dinosaur, and Raven at Phoenix. Although we enjoyed Eagle Mountain a lot, it was not in as good of condition as the other courses which were all in exceptional shape. The greens at Eagle Mountain were rather average in condition and speed. The layout is fun with plenty of elevation changes and bowled fairways that keep all but the worst shots in play. Speed of play was good.

Having now played this course and Cholla at We-Ko-Pa I think the majority of our group would choose Colla unless we wanted a good walk in which case we would choose Saguaro. Saguaro is more straightforward golf on what is certainly a beautiful canvas for an artistic gem. The course is in great condition - greens are lightning and very true. It doesn't have the tricks and the design features that make Cholla exceptionally interesting. But well worth a good walk - and it wouldn't be spoiled here.

Whitehorse definitely presents a challenge. I think Cindy Dye probably made this too difficult for the average golfer but strong golfers will enjoy the challenge. I don't like the fact that virtually every green is mounded and elevated taking bump and run plays out of the realistic options. The greens are still quite hard which means approach shots tend to bounce off the greens but this is improving as the casino has purchased the course and put some money into improving the conditions. So overall conditions are good and improving. John Harbottle has softened the course a bit by removing some sand traps and trees but softening is a relative term. This is still one of the toughest tests in the northwest.
