I'm delighted to leave a positive review for this gem of a course. It's been a favorite since the 80s and 90s but at some point new owners came in and quality deteriorated. Now they're taking good care of the course and it's back in its old form. The RTJ design is great; every hole offers a different look and a different challenge. Brilliant white sand is being added to the bunkers but right now it's damp and very heavy. They look great but are difficult to play from and harder still to rake. Perhaps they'll get better after they dry out. Pace of play was excellent. Thanks to a couple nice groups who let us play through we finished in 3:20 (11am midweek tee-off). Great practice area. Snack bar is minimal but adequate.

A worn but interesting course. Nice mix of holes and the only course in LB with some hills. Evidence of high traffic especially shows on the tee box where it seems very few bother to fix their divots. The fairways are OK but if you're in the rough you get anything from tall, wet weeds to unkempt hardpan. Play early for a 4-4.5 round, otherwise it's an all day affair.

This is tempting to play only because it's close to my home. I played last week to meet some friends and had fun, but the poor conditions, bumpy greens, and boring layout make it a below average experience, not to mention 5 3/4 hour rounds on weekday afternoons. My novice golf friends don't mind playing here because it's open, convenient, and inexpensive. For the more experienced the afternoons are good wind practice, but I have few other positives about this course.

El Do is one of my favorite urban courses. It's in remarkably good shape for the traffic it gets. Mature trees around the course make your tee shot placement critical. Greens have subtle breaks, frequent players tell me "it never breaks as much as you think". You must play early to avoid a long round.

Skylinks is a cut above other munis. They charge a little more than the other Long Beach courses but seem to put the money into better maintenance. Fairways and greens almost always in good shape. Fun greens and an interesting layout. Some construction going on now to reconfigure bunkers on 12, 13, and 17. Plays slowly unless you get there early.
