We had a 10 AM tee time to start off the new year. There were few players on the course and our starter Danny sent us off as a 2-some. Mary and I play pretty fast and since we hadn't played here in a while, we were really impressed with all the work done recently on the course. New cart paths were great and the course was in good condition for this time of the year. The bunkers I found had good sand and they have cleared out much of the trouble on the sides of the course. Always a good test and varied terrain requires some thinking.

Played Wednesday 4/29/2015 after driving from Primm in the morning. It's been a few years since we played here and if anything it has become even better. There was still some sand on the greens from 3 weeks ago so it appears that the thicker sand doesn't settle in quickly. Lakes were beautiful with several waterfalls. Bunkers were MUCH more forgiving than Primm Valley the day before (a very welcome change) and conditions were great. No water shortage here. Even tho it was a little windy, it helped to make the heat more bearable.

One caveat is to play well right on the #18 approach to avoid the lake that runs in front of the green and may not be visible. This will remain on our play list any time we can find ourselves in the area.

Played Tuesday April 28th at 1:40 PM. First time playing here and we were very surprised at the condition since it was near 90 degrees. Plenty of pine trees give you a great place to stay out of the heat. The course with one exception was in great condition except for the couple of bunkers I found myself in. The sand is very granular and plays like hitting off concrete, making it difficult to get the club under the ball and over some very high lips.

Even tho this is called the "Lakes" course, there aren't that many water hazards to deal with. We found it enjoyable and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Getting a great deal online was also a help.

Played Los Prados for the first time in February 2014 for a free birthday round and was in Las Vegas again so played it twice 10/20 and 10/21/14. Needless to say I enjoy this course and it's one of the most reasonably priced in the area. The $38 greens fee includes a cart and you are really treated like the private club it has been. Brand new carts with a good GPS made a nice initial impression. The course was in really nice shape, green and lush with the greens rolling true. Our only problem was that the rough in places made finding a ball off the fairway a little difficult. From what I heard, that was due to the recent overseeding in September.

This track winds through a gated community only about 10 minutes from the Texas Station and Fiesta casinos at the North end of Las Vegas. Even though the area is generally pretty flat, there are some elevation changes in the mix to keep it interesting. Definitely a fun track and well worth the $$...

We took advantage of 2 great deals and decided to spend Mary's birthday 10/3 playing where I hadn't been in about 20 years. Using their package for her birthday (including free range balls, walking rate free round, and LUNCH) and my OC Trail card (Thanks to Greenskeeper) we had a great time on a course that looks like it was plucked from the desert and placed in Orange County.

Lush, Lots of palm trees, and a fun layout made for a good challenge. Some of the bunkers had what I think must have been white crushed marble sand. Pure and beautiful.

Starting on the back nine made the second hole (#11) a real awakening. It's a water carry to a beautiful small green. Take a picture here and give it enough club.

The course was in very good condition even after all the HOT weather of the weeks before. We had a great time and it will NOT be that long before we play here again.

Played this the morning of 10/10/12 with the twosome certificate that they so generously donated to Greenskeeper. Facilities and service were first class.

Even tho it was very windy at the clubhouse when we started, the course played well since most of it winds through the canyons below. Great overlooks of the Las Vegas area provide a stunning contrast to the beauty of the course.

This isn't a "bomb and gouge" layout since there are well placed hazards that require you to place your tee shot correctly. Since this was our second time on this layout, we had a much better idea how it should be played.

On this day we were told that the bunkers were to be played as waste bunkers without rakes and grounding the club was to be permitted.

Course conditions were very lush and there was some minor repair work in progress on one of the greens as we played it. In talking with one of the player's assistants on the course, we found that our 3 putts were not unusual here. The greens have some subtle and NOT so subtle breaks so ball positioning really comes into play. They do a VERY good job keeping them rolling well and the pin sheet on your cart can be a huge help.

Scores here will definitely improve with familiarity and we will play here again! Thanks again to the staff for providing us the opportunity.

Played the T.O. City tournament 9/22 & 23. The course in very good condition and They've even added some new sand in the bunkers. Aerating the greens the first week of October may change things temporarily but at this point they are very true with some good breaks to provide a challenge. Don't let the short yardage fool you. There are both bogeys and birdies to be had if you keep it in the short stuff. The large oaks may not be your friend if you stray off the fairways. This course is much more challenging for its length than most Muni layouts and not your usual back and forth . If you haven't played it, I suggest you give it a go.

This was the course we played 10/24/11 before we returned back home.. While the course id reasonably scenic, we thought that the green fee was a little steep for the course conditions. Tee boxes were deep enough to nearly swallow a 2 3/4 inch tee and that seemed to be consistent throughout the course. The layout goes (you guessed it!) through a maze of canyons but not anything compared to Wolf Creek down the road or the other courses we played in Hurricane, UT.

There are some risk/reward shots and some water where you wouldn't look for it without a good GPS. I found myself with a flop shot into a 4 foot wide creek running directly in front of one of the greens that you approach from a lower level so it's not visible. We would have been a lot more impressed at a little lower green fee but it was a good ending to the trip and played pretty fast on a Monday morning.

Played this new course on Thursday 10/21/11 and found it to be tough and true to its name.. LOTS of opportunity to wash your ball in the many hazards on this beautiful course designed by Jack.. Great white sand bunkers and first class greens made an interesting if not overly long challenge. It's 50 miles North of Vegas and about 35 South and West of Mesquite. Looks like you will never find anything living on the way there but finally it appeared out of the desert .

Waterfalls on several holes make it very picturesque and the course was in first class shape with fast greens that challenged your ability to judge distances accurately.

Use of the great practice facility was included with our green fees and gas carts were a little loud but did their job well. We had fun but plan on a long drive from anywhere to get to this gem. They are working on a community to go with the course but that has been a little slow in the uptake.

We played on Sunday 10/23 at the twilight rate. Had a group of 6 and there wasn't a problem getting us in successive groups. We all loved the course.. except maybe a couple of HUGE red bunkers I found myself inhabiting.. Greens were perfect with some interesting undulations and the fairways were great! Some HUGE drop offs on the back 9 made it very challenging and we had MANY times we stopped for photo opportunities. We agreed that of the 4 courses we played on the trip, this was the best conditioned and was the best spent $50 of the trip. We are looking forward to next time!

Played 11/10 about noon. They were doing some small needle punching on the greens today but really not too bad. Next week they are going to do some top dressing and sanding from what I heard. There was one temporary green today but they have circles marked for more to come when the rest of the work is being done.

All in all, a fun layout with some narrow shots. We definitely want to play it again.

The SCGA home course is now known as The Golf Club at Rancho California. Mary and I played 7/30 after an invitation to the Grand Re-Opening for a price we couldn't pass up!

We were paired up with 2 ladies who took a day off from work from a certain golf company in Carlsbad and really had a great day. The greens on course aren't quite as fast as the practice green but the subtle breaks still presented a fair challenge. The course was in the great condition I remembered and they are still offering discounts off the rack rates for SCGA members.

They offered a good BBQ lunch at the turn for about $5 so it's no wonder the entire weekend booked up quickly. This course is always fun with ups and downs as well as consistently good playing conditions. Give it a try if you are near Murrieta.
