i agree with gbib. played on 9/21/06. i used to love playing this course. but after this most recent round i will definitely wait a few months until the conditions are improved. tee boxes are beat up. fairways are horrendous....standing water, mud, bare spots on almost every fairway; and we're talking about huge portions of the fairways.

Hey Juliana, no need to "correct the last golfer". Stick to your opinions of the course and I'll stick to mine.

Let me guess, you're definitely a club member aren't you? And were you part of one of the groups that was holding every one up?

At any rate, I do have to agree with you. The course is probably improving. Funny though, because you've been saying that since your first posting, which was a year ago. A course this crappy can only improve. It's so crappy, it can't get any worse. I can't even begin to imagine the crappy conditions it was in a year ago when you claimed that it has improved.

If this is the best-valued OC golf course that you claim it is, than you guys are in trouble. Try venturing outside of San Clemente and the OC. There are a bunch of better courses that are similarly priced.

Regretfully, played this course 6/11/05.

The conditions were horrible. The course offered no sceneries. Tee boxes were uneven, muddy and beat up. The fairways, wait, what fairways? For the most part, when you hit a good drive into the fairway, you're supposed to be rewarded with a good lie. This wasn't the case. My playing partners and I hit the majority of the fairways. But we had to play our approach shots either from mud, dirt, bare spots, or dead grass. The sandtraps, good Lord, if you want to call them sandtraps. There weren't any sand, instead, they seemed to be filled with compacted dirt. Forget about "blasting" the ball out of the sand. On one hole, I actually chipped out of the trap b/c it was so hard. Unreal! Surprisingly, the greens were decent. They were smooth and rolled true. But the conditions you have to play through to get to the greens were horrendous.

The layout isn't great either. It's a tough layout due to the narrow fairways (read above) and many doglegs. This isn't the problem. But come on, if you're going to have a tough layout, improve the conditions. Also, in my opinion, there were too many doglegs. You can't hit driver on a lot of the holes. Take hole #16 for example. We all hit irons off the tee. One of my buddies actually hit a pitching wedge. The problem? It was a friggin par 5!! For this hole, on this particular day, the red, white and blue tee played from the same spot...I'm hoping it's because they're trying to improve the other tee boxes. Anyhow, from where we were teeing off, our only option was to carry about 140-150 yards to the middle of the fairway. At which point, there is a downhill slope, allowing the ball to roll another 30-40 yards. If your ball carry or roll any further, you'll be in trouble b/c theres a ravine that runs across the fairway. So you're probably saying, why didn't we just take out the driver and try to carry the ravine? That wasn't even an option b/c from where we were teeing of, there was absolutely no angle. So the only option was to tee off with a short iron...only a par 5.

The pace of play was BAD. We had a 2pm tee time, which was considered twilight. But we were told there would be 4 groups ahead of us. So we decided to pay the regular rate ($50)and tee off at about 1:15. At first, it seemed like a good idea, b/c we finished the front 9 in less than 2 hours. But the back 9 was a different story. I guess we caught up to the groups ahead of us, so we had to wait for every single shot. We had to wait for the group ahead of us (a 2-some) who was waiting for the group ahead of them (also a 2-some), who was waiting for the group ahead of them (another 2-some). It was so bad that on hole #15, a par 3, the group ahead of us was teeing off with a huge audience. Our group (a 4-some), the group behind us (a 2-some) and the group behind them (another 2-some) were all watching them. Where were the marshalls? There weren't any! Which isn't a surprise. I wouldn't want to be a marshall at this course. Because to get from hole to hole, you have to navigate through some pretty gnarly cart paths. We're talking about steep downhills with some wicked 90 degree turns. As if that wasn't bad enough, you have to drive through a bunch of dark tunnels. I was nervous going through these dark tunnels and I had 3 other guys with me. Imagine a marshall having to go thru these tunnels by himself. For the same reasoning, I think that's why we never saw the cart person.

With all this said, this was probably the worst golf experience I've had ever. Definitely not worth the money, time or effort, not to mention the drive. Needless to say, my buddies and I are never coming back to this crappy course.
