Played yesterday, May 18, 2016. Generally in decent condition except the greens and rough. Greens inconsistent from hole to hole and overall appear to need some work to get them to good playing condition. The rough is too long causing excess time to find balls that are only a short way off the fairway. Just plain stupid to allow rough this long as it kills pace of play. Why some courses just never seem to learn this is puzzling. The same conditions apply to the other course -- The Hills -- at this location.

played this course yesterday Oct 13, 2014 with no rain in a month. In the middle of a drought this course is grossly overwatered. There are huge areas on many, many holes where balls plug and there are big tire marks from maintenance equipment. The fairways are bare in lots of places and they have recently reseeded them and that may be the main cause of the many wet spots that are unplayable. The greens are in decent shape as are the tee boxes. The rough has been allowed to grow very high causing real problems finding balls. This course is not worth what you have to pay to play it right now. Next year would be my guess as to when it will be worth the money.

Greens somewhat slow but smooth although many soft spike marks on the green. Greens not holding shots very well right now (October before aerating) as they seem quite firm even though speed is medium. Second cut of Rough is ridiculously long on this course and the cost ($57) for a mid-week senior green fee is high for this area. Most players are seniors who live at Sun City so why they have let the rough grow so long is a mystery. It adds at least a half hour to the round and many people lose multiple balls when they should be easily findable with reasonable rough length. The course is longer and tougher than the Hills course at the same location. Several holes are close to 400 yards or over for par 4's played from the white tees and play into the prevailing wind. Not for short hitters. All in all a challenge and a course in good shape but very tough for 20+ handicappers.

They have severely over-watered parts of the fairways and have had extensive animal damage to the fairways and areas where water has collected. I think from wild pigs. In addition, the recent aeration did not go well and most greens show severe damage. The 3rd green is unusable and they have made a temporary green in the fairway. All the greens are being cut long to recover from the damage so they are bumpy and slow and the roll is not true. Clearly this nice course has been badly damaged from poor maintenance practices and the previously mentioned animal damage. It will take months for it to recover.

I played the course two weeks ago. The greens are not mature yet, they are slow, have many undulations in them, and the ball does not roll true. This is probably due to their newness but perhaps not. There are some strange holes on this course with trees in ridiculous places in the fairway or overhanging the tee box. The fairways are not in very good shape but are "acceptable" -- no better. I might play this course again some day but there are other closer courses to me I feel are far better. I'd give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.

Very good course in excellent condition. One of the best in Sacramento and Northern California. Great facilities. Excellent practice facilities, the largest and best stocked pro shop I have seen at any public or private course. Best demo program I have enjoyed anywhere and excellent club fitting and teaching facilty. Great staff throughout. The course was designed by Alister Mackenzie and is an excellent layout. Maintenance is excellent and it is obvious money is well spent keeping the course in the best playing conditions possible. The value is tremendous considering the experince versus the cost. I recommend it to all levels at any time.

Played this curse last month (August) and have played it numerous times prior to that. One group I play with schedules this course several times a year. The greens are in poor condition as are parts of the fairways -- not uncommon on the public courses in the Sacramento area due to the heat and clay soil conditions. The tee boxes are poor with countless divot marks and uneven lies. The greens are not true, over-watered in places, and marked by shoe marks and ball marks. Most public courses suffer from marks on the greens but Woodcreek has more than it's fair share due to poor greenskeeping. I am told that the City of Roseville has moved the greenskeeper from Diamond Oaks (fantastic greens) to Woodcreek to try and solve the problem. In my book this course is a tricked up, or gimmicked, track because the plot of land they had to work with was not large enough to accommodate a championship, or even typical, layout. Consequently there are many holes with obstructions like power lines and strangely placed trees, gullies, etc. Many severe doglegs and quite a few blind shots. In the summer this course suffers from the heat and shows signs of overwatering while other areas die out from the heat. The rough is very long and it is tough stuff to get out of. If you love short, target, tricky courses hitting fairway woods and irons from the tee then this place is for you. It has a decent driving range playing music all the time, good putting green and a chipping green. Staff is courteous and the facilities are nice.

Played Lincoln Hills Sept 5 and was very disappointed. The course is in poor condition. Totally over-watered in many parts of the fairways and greens with wet sand in many bunkers even by mid afternoon in 95 degree heat. In other parts of the fairways there are barren areas that have died from lack of water and have now been punched to help the poor condition. Maintenance vehicles have left bad tire tread marks on places around bunkers and fairways that have been over-watered. In addition, the greens are way too soft, show numerous spike marks from shoes and as a result do not putt true. Our group plays this course several times a year but unless the Casper Management Group gets hold of proper maintenance for the course perhaps that may be reduced to once or not at all. It is a very good layout but the bad maintenance and poor drainage is hurting it considerably.
