Played yesterday (4/23) and loved it. The layout and condition are just about perfect. You won't punish yourself but miss your shots and you'll pay for it. Greens, fairways, and tees were perfect. I played in a tournament and my only complaint would be that he had us playing the whites, WAY too short. 400 yard par 5 down wind....no thanks, but thats an easy fix. I believe they had 3 other tee boxes to choose from.

My wife and I had breakfast before the round, she loved it. She would normally play with but headed to the spa at La Casa Del Zorro for a spa day while I golfed. Great way to spend a spring day in SD county. Hoping we can make it back for a stay and play before they close for the summer.

2 weeks ago joined the players club, $20/month then $5 to play with drink included. Since I live 5 minutes from the course it was a no brainer. Mainly joined to improve the short game. Most holes you'll be hitting a sandwedge but there are handful of gaps and wedges to be hit, you can even bring the driver out once. I played the Monday they punched and every Monday since (3 times) and the greens are now nearly back. Get a deal or join the club, well worth it. Putt for dough and drive for show.

Fun Oceanside course with plenty of trouble. I love the course but look out for a couple of holes. If the wind is up 15 and 16 can be pretty troublesome (16 is a bummer no matter what). You can find great deals that are well worth it. Always in good to great shape.

Played the day after the Kia Classic from the same tees. As it stands, Aviara and Rams Hill are neck and neck for my favorite in SD county. Everything was perfect, fun to play the same tees as the pros. I've played Torrey the day after the Farmers and the Kia the day after, give me the ladies tees all day long. Fun that they mix up the tees from golds, whites, and blues. You can't go wrong at Aviara. One of those treat yourself kind of rounds.

Just started playing again after playing once a month or so. Great course to do it, pretty open on most holes. Fairways and greens were in great shape with terrific views from many holes. There are a couple of holes where you can get into trouble, but in general, it is a course to score on. A little overpriced in my opinion, but worth a round if your in north county coastal.

Final stop on my trip from SD to Monterey. Tough to say which was my favorite between here, La P, and Bayonet. I got a great deal on Golfnow so had to pull the trigger. I was going to play Rancho Maria but the pro shop didn't want to work with me on the timing of my hotdeal. Side note, I get that golf courses despise hotdeals since they make no money off them but there is value in selling food/drinks plus reviews such as these.

Ojai treated me like any other guest, let me go off early and even mentioned that I could replay the holes that I skipped due to a slow foursome. They get customer service since while I golfed 27+ holes my new wife spent $250 on spa services.

I've played the course a couple of times but had forgotten the variety it presents. For some reason I remembered it being like La Costa but it is actually much more like Aviara and Maderas. At $40 it was a steal even if the temp was pushing 100. Looking forward to heading back in the future.

3rd course I played on my trip north. Fun little course. It is all about the back 9 here as the front 9 is pretty pedestrian. Greens were rolling great and the conditions overall were good. Views and wildlife on the back side were off the charts. Definitely worth playing if you are in the area and are looking for Spanish Bay type views without the huge price tag.

2nd course I played this past weekend on my wedding trip up the coast. Bayonet has gotta be the best value on the Monterey Peninsula. Paid $59 at prime time on a Friday. Course is in fantastic shape with great ocean views and tree line fairways. You've got to hit the ball straight and if you do you can score. On this day I most certainly did not which made for a long day. Played great the day before at La P so I was anticipating a great score and day, oh well. I forgot I wasn't in Socal and unfortunately shivered my way through the front side. Bring a jacket, the wind picks up quick making for a chilly day in the trees.

Don't blow $200+ at Poppy Hills, the two locals I played with were in total agreement and said that most tourists miss out on Black Horse and Bayonet. Only issue I can see with Bayonet is the big yardage difference between the Blues and whites, it would be nice to have yardage at around 6400 instead of 5900 and 6700.

1st course on my central coast wedding trip. La P never disappoints. By far one of my favorites in CA. Its got a mean bite but if you keep it in the short stuff you'll be okay. Heres the skinny:
Service: top notch. Stacy and the crew are always on point.
Fairways: pretty darn good, few bare spots but my ball always had a good lie when I drove it straight.
Greens: medium pace and super smooth. Held shots well.
Tee boxes: lush, a few were a bit crowned.
Layout: amazing, no houses, no anything, just golf. You'll hit every club in your bag.
Misc: grab an 805 on draft at the turn or one of the 12 or so wines they've got, all local and at a more than fair price. Look out for the wind in the afternoon, cost me a few strokes on the backside.

Played front 9 of the north and south yesterday. Both are in good condition and worth the green fee. I paid the resident twilight rate of $24 but would be worth non resident rates with the current condition.
Greens: north is back/south need a week or so but plenty playable.
fairways: great on both, south slightly better
bunkers: sand is a little "beachy" on the north great on the south.
Tees: always great at torrey
service: showed up 15 minutes prior to our tee time and got bumped 20 minutes, no huge complaints since website says 20 minutes. Had never had that happen but still played 18. Saw the cart girl once, sculpin great, $7 price not so great.

Get out there and play now, the course is phenomenal. Thanks to GK got the $20 cart deal with 3 other buddies. Not much to say about the conditioning since everything was perfect. Greens are pure, no ball marks whatsoever. Fairways like carpet. Traps nice fluffy sand without being too soft. Like one reviewer noted, they are still doing work on the clubhouse area but who cares. We were there to golf not sit on the patio, however, when completed it should be amazing.

We played the blues at around 6400 yds with handicaps ranging from 7.5-20 and all enjoyed the course. Always hesitant to take high handicappers to desert courses since they can be tight and overly penal. Not Rams Hill, wide fairways with desert that you could recover from if you went that far right or left. Greenside bunkers and the greens were challenging but fair. Can be stretched to 7500 yds which would test anybody.

At $75 for an early twilight we'll most definitely be back. It is worth $150 but not with a 1.5 hr drive. If it were in San Diego proper it would be $200+ rack rates (just played Aviara and I'd choose Rams Hill), in Borrego it should be priced at $100 rack rate with deals to be had. It was one of those courses where you don't want the round to end. Get on it!

Played Sunday 11/10. For $50 on golfnow on a Sunday morning it was a great deal. Played Mission/Friars with zero complaints. Greens were amazing, played Aviara today and they were darn close and definitely faster. If you can find it for under $60 its a great course to play especially considering the location.
