I played El Caballero today (Saterday) 6/17/17 in the afternoon on a reciprocal from my club. This is one of the few courses in LA I have always wanted to play but have not had the chance.

This course was everything I could ask for and more. This is a true RTJ design with lots of trees and extremely undulating greens. The rough was thick and lush in most areas. El Cab is not a long course but the difficult comes from the large amount of massive, fluffy white sand bunkers. The bunkers have clearly been renovated recently. Further, there are many shots on the course where you really have to take into account risk v reward.

There is quite a bit of water on this course. The water is not stagnant and has wonderful foliage in and around it.

Everything about El Cab is awesome. The clubhouse is clearly an older design but it gives it a unique feel and the interior is extremely well put together and modern.

I'd come back here if offered the chance on a moments notice.

Played today, 6/4/17, on a warm day. The course is absolutely stunning. Trees are everywhere and punish you if you hit wayward shots. That being said, they still leave you with a shot that can make your round. The trees provide shade that no other course in the area can provide as this is a 50+ year old course.

The rough is thick while the greens are undulating, true and quick. The bunkers look like they had been redone in the past few years as they played fantastically with a nice white sandy color.

Overall this is a top tier course. POP was 4 hours mid-day on a Sunday!

Played here on the Sunday before Memorial Day, 5/28/17 at 10am. Finished at 1:45, what a pace for a 4 some. We hardly ever waited!

The grass has been watered well everywhere and in some areas too well. The greens were a bit shaggy but the condition was good. A couple of bumps but that is to be expected at a course like this.

I have played here a few times recently. 5/29/17 the course played amazing. The rough is thick and the greens are smooth. Be aware that the greens are firm, so expect a quick roll and a bit of a search to find the ball mark.

Interesting layout, good coverage from the beverage cart. There are a few spots under repair but it is not as much as one would expect given the rain we saw earlier in the year.

Overall a fantastic course. POP on Memorial day was less than 4 hours.

Played Friday, May 26th at 2:20 PM. I wanted to try a mid-afternoon time since the early morning weekend time was so slow. The course is in great shape but the tee boxes are a bit rough. In fact the blue tees were often grouped with the white tees, which were in front of where the white tee is rated.

The course gets so much play that they likely have to do this more often.

The first 9 holes took 2 hours and 45 minutes. I left at 5pm with a 3 over on the front 9. It just takes too long to play here.

Great deal but it is at the cost of your time.

I played today, 5/20/17 at 8:58am. I got to the course at 8:30 and there was a 25 minute line to check in. I didn't have time to hit balls due to the slow line. I get my car and get in line for the tee. We do not tee-off until 9:20am, 20 minutes late.

The front nine took 2 hours and 45 minutes which is absurd on most courses but especially on a par 61 executive course. They let people out every 3 to 4 minutes and the pace of play is atrocious. I was told it is better to play in the evening, around 1 or 2pm if you can't be one of the first 3 groups in the AM. Overall the round took 5 hours and 15 minutes.

That being said, the course is in great shape for the price. The grass is green, rough is fluffy in most spots and the greens are in great shape. Bunkers can be hit or miss as they are either wet or very hard with a few soft bunkers.

This is an executive course that is trying to drive revenue. I get it, I really do but they need SOME standards.

This course is in terrible shape compared to when I played it 6 months ago. There is literally no rough at all. The ball runs faster in the rough than one the fairway. It is near impossible to hold a rough currently.

The ball goes far because it is so dry, but it is not pleasant. The fairways are patchy at best. The greens are amazing as always and that is the only positive thing about my round today. I won't be coming back for a long while.

It is really sad that the well broke, but they need to do something in the interim. They lowered their membership rates, but it is not worth it at all. It reminds me of Lost Canyons, it is in that bad of shape.
