Played here for the first time with my son (his 40th birthday present), Driving range is two-tiered (mats only) and IRONS only. Ball machine on lower level hidden from view. Most fairways were lush as was the 1st cut of rough. Lots of places to lose balls. Tee boxes were lush and not divot-marked. There were a few where a level stance was almost impossible Greens were fast and did not hold well (freshly sanded). Narrow fairways and narrow gaps to aim your tee shots. Many of greens were tapered on the skirt and the balls rolled right off the putting surface. My son thinks that the track should be changed to make 10-18, 1-9 and vice versa. Hole #1 is the toughest hole on the course. Seems that #10 would be a better introduction to the course and the back a better way to start your round before facing a very tough front nine. Good value on GN that included lunch (choice of deli sandwich, breakfast burrito or hot dog, non premium drink and chips. Staff at the pro shop were okay, but seemed a little distracted. Starter was confused when we didn't show up with a cart key. Pace of play was 5 hours. At times there were three foursome sitting at the same tee waiting. The threesome ahead of us had lunch at the turn, so we skipped passed them and finished about 15 minutes ahead of the pace of play.

This is the Oak Knoll Golf Course in Ashland, Or. just east of I-5. I hadn't played here since 1980. It has changed a bit. Played 9 holes on a Sunday morning before church for $14.00. Good value and easy to walk if that's what you do. (I did!)

Tees: Most were rough and full of divots There are separate tees for the front and back nine, since this is a 9-hole course.

Fairways: Rough in many places on the first three holes, then got more lush for the last six. Trees on every fairway (only 6-8 feet in 1980) are now 30 ft tall and create an intimidating obstacle if you stray to the right or left.

Green: Smooth and rolled true with few exceptions. Not really any complaints here.

Staff: Very helpful and friendly. I was the first one on the course so I had a chance to chat a bit with the pro. Great value.

Decided to walk nine holes yesterday (7/30) and today. Yesterday played Sycamore. It is a bit more conducive to walking since the distance from hole to next tee is short. Greens were in typical Ashwood shape, smooth, true and a bit on the slow side. With the drought here the fairways were surprisingly good, but the dead patches continue to get larger. Played by myself and had one two-some (in a cart) pass me on #4. 9 hole in 1:30. Not bad. Today I played Birch and POP was just a bit longer 1:50 but the distance from hole to next tee is a lot longer than Sycamore. Wind was blustery out of the south, but that made for some great drives on No. 5 & No. 7. Greens on Birch were a bit better but speed was still Ashwood usual. My pet peeve at this course is the condition of the sand traps and bunkers. I think the superintendant ordered a mixed load from XYZ Rock, Sand & Gravel, because that exactly what you have in each of these hazards. On a final note...You could tell that the Men's club had played Birch earlier in the day.
Staff is always friendly and accommodating. The $10 walking fee for 9 holes is a good deal.

First time playing AVGC. Not as lush as Ashwood, but very, very playable. Greens were dynamically fast and very firm. Almost every green slopes from back to front. (Should be something to consider changing during the off-season.) Generously wide fairways, but strategically placed bunkers are there for the less confident driver . The rough (since I was there often) was my favorite part of the course. Just long enough to set up my ball nicely for a soft iron into the greens. Used GolfNow reward and paid $10. Will play here again. One bad thing...on Men's Club days they allow as many as an eight-some play together. Pace of play suffers and they will NOT let you play through. Good job, Sierra Management! (really!)

Played on 6/16 at 6:44am. Overcast skies made for a perfect morning of golf. I hadn't played this course in over 20 years. Greens were the best I remember them ever being. Most tee boxes were either divots filled with sand or simply pock-marked with un-repaired divots. Cart #25 needed new brakes. This is a fun course and will be part of my regular routine when in San Diego.

Did not know what to expect playing here for 1st time. Greens were aerated about 2-3 weeks ago but were still fast and hard to read. Fairways were at times in good condition, but there were a lot of bare spots. Rough was 3 inches or less is most cases and ball sat up well. Traps and bunkers (I found 7 of them) were in poor to ridiculous shape. Doesn't anyone know what sand is supposed to be like in the IE? (The beach isn't that far away) I played as a single and finished in a little under three hours. Probably won't come back here again, but it was worth a shot.

By far the best course in the High Desert. Today (4/27/15) played Sycamore and Birch. Like the previous reviewer, greens were a bit sandy and not very consistent. Fairway and rough in great shape. The traps and bunkers of full of rocks and crushed rock, not sand. I had to remove rocks the size of dimes and nickels from several green. He guys that play here...FIX you ball marks! Pace of play was great until the 6th hole on Birch.

Second time playing here. Was afraid that aeration would take the fun out of the greens. Not so! Greens were understandably slow, but in good shape. Fairways were good to excellent in most cases. Some of the rough is nearly unplayable, especially on the back nine. I was only in the sand on No. 17. It was compacted and thin, but playable. $15.00 green fee (due to aeration) was an great bargain. Pace of play: 3 hours.

First time playing here after having used the practice facility in the past. Played Birch and Mesquite. Greens were being aerated and very sandy. Not a lot of true roll. Fairways were in great condition for this early in the season. Water came into play on several holes for me. Played as a single with a cart in 3 hr 20 minutes (caught up with two foursomes on Mesquite.)
This is the best (if short) course in the High Desert.

Played (walked) here on 2/18. Great pace of play (3 hours 20 minutes). Started as single, then joined by two ladies on #3 and a single met us on #5. Fairways were good and holes 1-8 greens were terrific. Here's the rub...greens from # 9 thru #16 were awful. Bare spots, bumpy, not well-maintained. You'd think that a course owned by an Indian casino would be better cared for. Still had an enjoyable time...after not playing here for 22 years.

Greens were in great shape. One of the few places I have played where the practice green really represented the course. There is some lateral water since the rains a few weeks ago. Fairways left something to be desired. Sand in most bunkers was more like crushed rock. Had a good time. Money well spent,
