WARNING! I haven't written a review in awhile but I just had to this time to WARN others!!!
I played here on Tuesday 10/21 at twilight. The course is in the WORST shape I have ever seen it. I have never seen greens that bad anywhere on any course. I can't believe they even let us play on those greens. Absolutely the most terrible greens ever. I've played here before and it was immaculate but this time, I took clients and it was embarrassing. Every green should be ripped out and replaced. Obviously something is going on, green virus or something, but come on. The course should be shut down immediately. Absolute waste of money to play there in its current condition. No warning either, just that "there were some brown spots here and there". What BS. I won't go back till I know for sure the course has been restored and I imagine it would take at least 3-4 months.

Played early on Sunday 5/25. Pace was 4:20. Greens were good but not great and rolled at an average speed, maybe even a little slower than what I'm used to at Strawberry. A few rough spots and bare patches here and there in some fairways but overall the course was in good shape. Bunkers were good and rough wasn't too long. A great course and a beautiful day with good service and friendly staff. I would only say I think it's a touch overpriced.

Played on Friday in the late morning 5/2. Hot but a slight ocean breeze was starting to come in. Greens were punched!!!! Nobody told us until we got to the starter. The starter was very nice and gave us tips, advice, and all pertinent info. The rate was lower than originally quoted but I didn't ask why and nobody said anything about the aerated greens. They were still bumpy and sandy but the rate made up for it. Nice course layout, not much need for Driver. The back 9 is a little more interesting. Pace was great and this is one of the few experiences where I felt that pace was the # 1 priority and several on course marshalls made it clear. They had a slow group 2 ahead let us play through and everyone was happy. Fairways were nice and rough was short. All in all a pretty solid course and I enjoyed my experience aside from the greens.

Played last weekend 3/16, afternoon round. Pace on the front was decent but got progressively worse till we hit a wall on hole 9. Waited on 10 and every hole/shot after that. Greens were in good shape. Fairways were patchy but good overall. Tee boxes were below average, uneven, patchy, heavily divoted. Best part of the day was the pre-round lunch in the restaurant. Pasta Salad/BLTA/Tuna Melt are all highly recommended and service was excellent. Hidden Valley is kind of a hidden gem, but the round is long and gets windy in the afternoon so go early.

Played Saturday 7:16am. I've reviewed this course before, so this is an update. Fairways were really good. Rough is very low and is dormant or yellowish which makes each holes fairways and greens really pop and look well defined which I think helps with aim. Looks great to the eye. Greens are still heavily pockmarked but run pretty smoothly. Many greens, most on the front 9 have bare spots here and there on the fringe with no grass. Hopefully they fix this by spring. Tee boxes are average. Friendly starter. Pace was 4.25.
Would recommend in the mornings.

Played Monday 2/3 around 11:30am. Excellent!!!!! Amazing shape, not just for winter either, fairways are lush and green, rough is lush and very full but not too penal, greens were great and the tee boxes were for the most part good, except a few uneven levels and some heavy divoted areas. The only complaint would be the bunkers. Hard pan under a think veil of sand. Bunker shots go rocketing out. Another complaint is the Brown/tan rough surrounding some bunkers. It's very penal and my ball got in there pretty deep off a drive on 14 and it ruined my whole round and elbow trying to hack my ball out of there. Those areas should be shaved down so balls go into the bunker, not stuck in it. Still one of my favorite courses and worth the hour drive from OC.

Played Sunday 12/8 12:30 tee time. Didn't tee off till 12:40. Only got 15 holes in before dark. Very disappointed in pace of play and lack of marshaling. Course is in bad shape except the greens were good and fast. The group in front was not good and their pre-shot routines were ridiculous. All four would go to each ball and watch. We had to wait on every shot, no exaggeration.
Many tee boxes were absolute crap. Torn up, severe divots and over all just messy. Fairways were in similar condition. Rough was inconsistent. Greens were smooth and fast, very very fast! Made for a very unpleasant golf outing overall to say the least. Service is top notch as usual but the course is not in it's best shape by a long shot.

Played Sun 11/24 6:45am. First time in a few years and don't know why I haven't been back in so long. Course is in amazing shape. Layout, scenery, service is all great. Far drive from OC but pace was great, 4 hours so I was home by 11:30. Course is GREEN!! with lush healthy fairways. Tee boxes were too lush... they needed a haircut. Greens were on the slow side too. Views and hole scenery are some of the best in so cal. Not a lot of wind in the morning so that was nice. My excuse was always that it's too far, but after playing Sunday, I think it's worth it. Had a great experience playing early.

Played 11/23 6:30am. Course is in good winter condition. Greens are in good shape. Usually they are pock marked like crazy but they are good right now, probably due to getting less play? Not sure but they were moderate speed and pretty smooth. Tees were in ok shape. Fairways/Rough were yellowy/golden in many areas but it's winter. Aside from the color they were just fine. Thin and worn down in some areas, some muddy areas too, but overall course is in good shape. Pace was great, we had a slow player which caused us to let two groups play through. My only complaints are that I wish you could see the flag from the tee on par 3 17th and the blind approach on 7 is always annoying. Nice and friendly service at the turn.

11/20 7:20am. Course was in very good condition especially compared to other courses this time of the year. Friends birthday round made it even better considering the discounted rate for the rest of us. 3 things: 1) Bunkers are very inconsistent. Today was a day at the beach (in bunkers all day) Some have new white fluffy sand that is super soft. Ball buries in it. Some have the old brownish/reddish sand. Wetter, thicker, and more what I'm used to. Be prepared for that. 2) 4-5 brownish dead areas with automatic hose/sprinkler going off on them will get you wet if you hit near them. Very distracting hitting an approach shot over water while a sprinkler is nailing you in your backswing (#9). and 3) Greens are quick and multi-tiered and some are in tough spots but if you know this course, you know you have to be on the right tier to have a chance. I must point out that the customer service today was superb from the bag to the pro shop, to the starter, to the waiter in the lounge. Great service A+.

Played on 11/9 first off at 7am. Course is in great shape. Lush and green fairways and rough. Greens were soft and slow. Usually they are quite fast here but they were not that way this time. Pace was great of course since we were first off. Service is great, friendly people and workers. Cart path only which didn't seem necessary but it was fine. GPS carts didn't seem to match a few of the pin positions that closely but hey neither does my GPS watch sometimes. Great course and much much better condition than the last time I played it.

Course is in amazing shape for November. Lush and green fairways and rough. Tee boxes are above average, some needed a trim but the crew was working on them in the morning so maybe they just hadn't gotten to them yet. Played at 7:30am. Pace was 4 and 1/2 but would have been faster, group in front was slow and at least 1 hole behind. Greens were deceptively quick but also with some patchy spots. Greenside bunker on par 5 7th ruined my round. One of those times you hit a full bunker shot, feel a hard thud, see it take off, look down and it's hardpan under a thin layer of sand. Put some sand in the d%mn greenside bunkers please! That's my one and only complaint. Love this course overall though.
