Played TO on Saturday, 2/21, and the course is in TERRIBLE condition. Half of each green was recently punched. Holes were located on the non-punched half, but those portions were extremely bumpy, soggy, covered with footprints and ball marks, etc. Fairways were brown and burned out/dry in many areas, tons of divots, really poor hitting conditions. Bunkers were inconsistent - some had deep sand, others had < 1" before your club would hit clay. Very frustrating to not be told about course conditions/maintenance when you book your tee time - you're stuck with what you get when you show up. After finishing our round, my group swore we wouldn't play here again for several months in the hopes they'll improve their playing conditions. Total waste of money this time around.

Played Canyon/Ranch on 10/26 for $59. Canyon 9 just opened on the 24th after maintenance and the greens were still quite bumpy and sandy. Ranch 9 was in much better shape. Not sure why they didn't put us on the Meadow 9 with Canyon still being roughed up, but overall it was a decent day.

Played at noon on July 12 for $45, but even that rate was no bargain - this course is in the worst shape I've ever seen it. Dry, burned out fairways with thin lies everywhere. Soft, even soggy greens with not only spike marks, but actual footprints left over from the groups in front of us. Sand traps with less than 1/2" of sand before your wedge is scraping the clay. Only saw the beverage cart 1x during a round that lasted 5.5 hours. Once we got to the par-3 third hole, we waited behind 1 or 2 groups on every tee box. Never saw a marshal or player assistant. Too bad because this course can be a fun challenge when it's in decent shape, but there was nothing positive to mention other than our carts didn't die ... unlike what happened with several prior reviewers.

Played the Twin Oaks Luck O' The Irish 2-man scramble on March 14. 1PM shotgun, so the wind affected holes differently than it does when I usually play, in the morning. Course is still in decent shape. Greens were soft and a bit bumpy, causing some putts to hop around a little, but overall their condition is fine. Still a great value considering Arrowood charges full price despite aerating their greens and Encinitas Ranch doesn't seem to care about course maintenance anymore.

Played as a 3-some on Sunday, 2/23. Arrived early only to find out driving range was closed because "the ball picker broke so we have to hand-pick the range." Teed off 10 minutes late due to a backup on the first tee - felt like the landing pattern at LAX with all of the golf carts stacked up there. Starter said there was a marshal on the course but we never saw him during our entire 5-hour round. Excruciatingly slow play in front of us, sometimes with gaps of 1-1.5 holes between groups. Lots of construction going on, too, with bunkers being rebuilt, cranes and bulldozers parked between fairways, etc. Wouldn't have been worth the time/$ without the GK coupon.

Other than the slow pace of play, Twin Oaks is a great value for the $ spent

Played E-Ranch on Januray 24 and regretted every minute. I remember now why I stopped playing here. It started at check-in. I renewed my JC card recently but because I played on a weekday, the pro shop tried to convince me to pay for the round and not use a free round coupon because I'd be "losing money and wasting a coupon". My buddy checked in behind me and they went after him hard to renew his JC card. Annoying, to say the least. We also got reminded about 5 times about their POP program, but no one did anything on the course to help us finish in less than 5 hours (POP program states 4.5 hours). Worst of all, the course is an absolute train wreck. Fairways are thin/bare, rough is non-existent, greens are the worst I've played in years - unrepaired ball marks, tine marks from the last aeration, dead spots, bumpy areas that are like minefields to putt through. If you play E-Ranch, get on the green and then just give yourself a 2-putt to save the frustration. The course conditions were beyond awful and I'm now done with this course (again). It's too bad, because it's in a beautiful location. Total waste of 5 hours to play here, on a weekday no less. Can't even imagine what the POP would be on a weekend...

We had a 2:00 tee time on Saturday, 8/29. Haven't played The Vineyard in quite a while and after this experience I won't be back anytime soon ... if ever. Took well over 5 hours to finish. Greens are REALLY slow. Have to admit I laughed at some of the recent reviews that mentioned bugs, but I'm not laughing anymore. This course is INFESTED with gnats. The back 9 was simply miserable. Every time you stand still you're swarmed. Almost impossible to stay focused over a putt with gnats in your ears, nose, eyes, inside your sunglasses, etc. It was comical. Oh, and there's a bee's nest somewhere near the 14th tee box. Got stung on the throat. It was over 100 degrees out and we saw the bev cart one time ... on the front 9. What a joke.

Typical round at Arrowood - quick front 9, then everything bogs down on the back. Tees and greens are in great shape, fairways are really thin and brown right now ... balls run forever on them. Bunkers are in nice shape. This course would be phenomenally better if they'd just enforce their pace of play program. Nothing like waiting 10 minutes on every tee box to get you off your game.

First time I've ever played the Ranch in under 4 hours. Teed off at 7:12 AM Saturday morning and finished at 11:00 with only a couple of groups in front of us. The greens are OK, but really slow - looks like they aerated within the last few weeks but I'm not sure. Fairways are a little thinner than usual, rough is about the same. There's hardly any danger on this course, and that - coupled with the average conditions - make it hard to justify the $72 JC Player's rate on the weekend. Not to mention the constant sales pitch to renew the JC card at every single one of their courses. E-Ranch is convenient, and easy, but pricey - kind of like most North County courses.

Usually when you tee off at 8:16 on a Saturday, you can expect to play in 4.5 hours or less. Not today. For some reason it was really slow, but the course is in pretty good shape. Tee boxes are fine, fairways decent except for a few bare spots, but the greens are amazing - very receptive to good shots, very true, not that slow, etc. Some bunkers were fluffy, some were soaked, but that's par for a JC course. Overall not a bad day at Twin Oaks, despite the heat.

Only time you can ever play Arrowood in under 4.5 hours on the weekend is before 9:00 a.m. The course is starting to look like it did last August when it got really burned out around the tee boxes and greens. Staff say it's on purpose this year, something about switching from rye grass to Bermuda or something like that, but I don't buy it. Lots of bad lies around the greens where your ball can be sitting on bare dirt between tufts of grass. Hope the fungus they got last year isn't making a comeback. Also, some bunkers are bone-dry and some are like wet clay - what gives?!?
